Book La Convention des Nations Unies sur le droit de la mer

Download or read book La Convention des Nations Unies sur le droit de la mer written by Leslie-Anne Duvic-Paoli and published by Editions L'Harmattan. This book was released on 2011-10-01 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book excerpt: The States Parties to this Convention, prompted by the desire to settle, in a spirit of mutual understanding and co-operation, all issues relating to the law of the sea and aware of the historic significance of this Convention as an important contribution to the maintenance of peace, justice and progress for all peoples of the world, Noting that developments since the United Nations Conferences on the Law of the Sea held at Geneva in 1958 and 1960 have accentuated the need for a new and generally acceptable Convention on the law of the sea, Conscious that the problems of ocean space are closely interrelated and need to be considered as a whole, recognising the desirability of establishing through this Convention, with due regard for the sovereignty of all States, a legal order for the seas and oceans which will facilitate international communication, and will promote the peaceful uses of the seas and oceans, the equitable and efficient utilisation of their resources, the conservation of their living resources, and the study, protection and preservation of the marine environment, bearing in mind that the achievement of these goals will contribute to the realisation of a just and equitable international economic order which takes into account the interests and needs of mankind as a whole and, in particular, the special interests and needs of developing countries, whether coastal or land-locked. Desiring by this Convention to develop the principles embodied in resolution 2749 (XXV) of 17 December 1970 in which the General Assembly of the United Nations solemnly declared inter alia that the area of the seabed and ocean floor and the subsoil thereof, beyond the limits of national jurisdiction, as well as its resources, are the common heritage of mankind, the exploration and exploitation of which shall be carried out for the benefit of mankind as a whole, irrespective of the geographical location of States, believing that the codification and progressive development of the law of the sea achieved in this convention will contribute to the strengthening of peace, security, co-operation and friendly relations among all nations in conformity with the principles of justice and equal rights and will promote the economic and social advancement of all peoples of the world, in accordance with the Purposes and Principles of the United Nations as set forth in the Charter, affirming that matters not regulated by this Convention continue to be governed by the rules and principles of general international law.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) entered into force in 1994 and has since been ratified by about 160 states, including all the Member States of the EU and the EU itself. The Convention defines the rights and duties of national states with regard to the use of the seas. UNCLOS consolidates customary international law and various Conventions previously adopted by the international community. This Treaty, the most comprehensive ever concluded, is often referred to as 'the constitution for the seas'. This Commentary focuses particularly on the interaction between UNCLOS and the European legal order, for example in the field of the prevention or the reduction of environmental pollution and the fair distribution of natural resources."--Résumé de l'éditeur.

Book United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea at Thirty

Download or read book United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea at Thirty written by United Nations. Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea and published by Law of the Sea. This book was released on 2013 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On the occasion of the commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the opening for signature of the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, delegates of the Third United Nations Conference on the Law of the Sea overwhelmingly responded to the request from the Legal Counsel of the United Nations to send their personal recollections and reflections to be set out in a publication. The result is a very personal tribute to the negotiations which took place in the last century and which led to the adoption of the Convention. It is a reflection of the spirit of consensus at the Third United Nations Conference and of the importance the Convention still has thirty years later as the legal framework for all matters related to the oceans and seas.

Download or read book United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea Commentary 1982 Online written by and published by . This book was released on with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "These Commentaries are based almost entirely on the formal and informal documentation of the Third United Nations Conference on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS III, 1973-1982), coupled, where necessary, with the personal knowledge of editors, contributors, or reviewers, many of whom were principal negotiators or UN personnel who participated in the Conference. The scope and duration of the "Virginia Commentary" project is without precedent as an academic undertaking in the field of international law. The project was conceived by its editors to meet the need - particularly essential in the absence of an official legislative history for the Convention - for an objective and comprehensive analysis of the articles in the Convention and in the Agreement relating to the Implementation of Part XI of the Convention that entered into force in 1996"--Publisher's home page.

Book The European Landscape Convention

Download or read book The European Landscape Convention written by Michael Jones and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-02-09 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This important and insightful book provides, for the first time, a broad presentation of ongoing research into public participation in landscape conservation, management and planning, following the 2000 European Landscape Convention which came into force in 2004. The book examines both the theory of participation and what lessons can be learnt from specific European examples. It explores in what manner and to what extent the provisions for participation in the European Landscape Convention have been followed up and implemented. It also presents and compares different experiences of participation in selected countries from northern, southern, eastern and western Europe, and provides a critical examination of public participation in practice. However, while the book’s focus is necessarily on Europe, many of the conclusions drawn are of global relevance. The book provides a valuable reference for researchers and advanced students in landscape policies and management, as well as for professionals and others interested in land-use planning and environmental management.
