This book was released on 2023-12-31 with total page 1178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. [English]: At such a significant moment in European and world history, this volume aims to be a collection of scientific reflections about the relationships between political choices, military actions and the physiognomy of cities and the urban landscape, about the evolution of defence structures and techniques, about the representation of war and its effects on the urban image, and about the recovery of the traces of city memory. On the one hand the field of Digital Humanities opens up new perspectives to study the image of the city before, during and after the war, on the other hand digital technologies engage academics and researchers from various disciplines: In particular, in the area of drawing, the role of representation in the formulation of urban defence projects and in the documentation of wartime events and the traces left behind by conflicts is explored, while in the area of conservation, the theoretical and practical challenges imposed by the damage caused by conflicts to historic centres are explored, reviewing case studies, solutions and debates relating to the conservation of urban heritage involved in wartime actions, with a focus on identity and collective memory.
Download or read book From Images To Words written by Stefano Vignaroli and published by Babelcube Inc. This book was released on 2020-07-03 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Being part of a circle of writers who meet and exchange ideas through a Facebook group - nowadays it's all done through social networks - I launched to the others the idea of creating a story or a poem inspired by a Leonardo Longhi’s sculpture. That said, in a very short time the convened responded and, even faster, we created this beautiful little volume. A challenge? Yes, a good and beautiful challenge. Leonardo challenged us to move from images to words. Who won the challenge: the sculptor or the authors? I'd say both. Try reading the words, keeping the images in mind, and you will see that images and words will no longer appear to be opposite, but complementary. In Oscar Sartarelli’s words, no longer Wolf and Deer, but two souls in one body. What we find in Leonardo Longhi's wood sculptures and in the writings of those authors who participated, is a single entity: the man. In its various facets, but always the man.
Download or read book The Association for the Taxation of Financial Transactions and Citizens Action in Italy and Quebec written by Emanuele Achino and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2021-08-02 with total page 155 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Apart from providing a discussion of what ‘political culture’ might mean, this book speaks of the way two twin social movement organisations—one in Italy and another in Quebec—usually make decisions. Independently from someone’s political position, the decision-making process that these two organisations have adopted is helpful in suggesting ways to decide collectively which paths are more inclusive and can reduce any conflict and improve participation. This book will appeal to not only academics, but also policymakers, trade-unions, and practitioners, as well as anyone who wishes to improve recognition and therefore participation. The consensual decision-making adopted by these organisations represents a clear democratic approach in making decisions, and suggests a way to open the doors to those not yet included in these groups.

Download or read book Food Sovereignty and Land Grabbing written by Gabriele Proglio and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2023-06-21 with total page 139 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the relationship between food sovereignty and land grabbing. Adopting a multidisciplinary approach, the book deals with various aspects concerning the rush for land, and the subsequent popular and indigenous resistance in different parts of the world. Each contribution deals with a specific case study, shedding light on central issues surrounding extractivism and resistance by local and indigenous communities. This volume is an editorial project born “from below” – more specifically, during an intense cultural exchange among people coming from many countries, such as the Netherlands, the USA, Brazil, the UK, and Italy. In this sense, the book serves to problematize food sovereignty from many perspectives, and is an example of a new pedagogical approach to research.

Download or read book Echoing Voices in Italian Literature written by Teresa Franco and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2019-01-08 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of essays explores the reception of classics and translation from modern languages as two different, yet synergic, ways of engaging with literary canons and established traditions in 20th-century Italy. These two areas complement each other and equally contribute to shape several kinds of identities: authorial, literary, national and cultural. Foregrounding the transnational aspects of key concepts such as poetics, literary voice, canon and tradition, the book is intended for scholars and students of Italian literature and culture, classical reception and translation studies. With its two shifting focuses, on forms of classical tradition and forms of literary translation, the volume brings to the fore new configurations of 20th-century literature, culture and thought.

Download or read book A Modern History of German Criminal Law written by Thomas Vormbaum and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-10-01 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Increasingly, international governmental networks and organisations make it necessary to master the legal principles of other jurisdictions. Since the advent of international criminal tribunals this need has fully reached criminal law. A large part of their work is based on comparative research. The legal systems which contribute most to this systemic discussion are common law and civil law, sometimes called continental law. So far this dialogue appears to have been dominated by the former. While there are many reasons for this, one stands out very clearly: Language. English has become the lingua franca of international legal research. The present book addresses this issue. Thomas Vormbaum is one of the foremost German legal historians and the book's original has become a cornerstone of research into the history of German criminal law beyond doctrinal expositions; it allows a look at the system’s genesis, its ideological, political and cultural roots. In the field of comparative research, it is of the utmost importance to have an understanding of the law’s provenance, in other words its historical DNA.
Download or read book JULIUS CAESAR 1935 Shakespeare and Censorship in Fascist Italy written by Silvia Bigliazzi and published by Skenè. Texts and Studies. This book was released on 2019-12-29 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On 1 August 1935, only a few months before Mussolini launched the colonial enterprise in Ethiopia, Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar was produced at the Maxentius Basilica in Rome. The performance was organised by The National Workers’ Recreational Club (O.N.D.) and the script was submitted for censorship. However, the procedure followed a different course from the usual one as the commissioner was also part of the Fascist political system. This parallel edition presents for the first time the integral script of the censored text of Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar, in Raffaello Piccoli's 1925 Italian translation, and explores the implications of this peculiar type of censorship at the moment when, through Shakespeare, censoring became one and the same with political propaganda.
Download or read book The Temple of Peace in Rome written by Pier Luigi Tucci and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2017-11-16 with total page 1142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this magisterial two-volume book, Pier Luigi Tucci offers a comprehensive examination of one of the key complexes of Ancient Rome, the Temple of Peace. Based on archival research and an architectural survey, his research sheds new light on the medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque transformations of the basilica, and the later restorations of the complex. Volume 1 focuses on the foundation of the complex under Vespasian until its restoration under Septimius Severus and challenges the accepted views about the ancient building. Volume 2 begins with the remodelling of the library hall and the construction of the rotunda complex, and examines the dedication of the Christian Basilica of SS Cosmas and Damian. Of interest to scholars in a range of topics, The Temple of Peace in Rome crosses the boundaries between classics, archaeology, history of architecture, and art history, through Late Antiquity, the Middle Ages, and the early modern period.
