Book Making the Leap

Download or read book Making the Leap written by James Kennedy and published by . This book was released on 2019-09-06 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Making the decision to teach in China is not just about adapting to the lifestyle: learning to navigate public transportation, using chopsticks with dexterity, gaining a basic competency in spoken Mandarin, etc. A far greater challenge lies in reflecting on our teaching practices and adapting to the needs of Chinese students. To be truly effective, we must be willing to become different kinds of teachers. That does not mean we must completely alter our identities as educators, but we must be willing to modify the way we speak, write, stand, plan and assess to best serve our student demographic, in much the same way successful stand-up comedians "read the room" and selectively deliver material they think will yield the most laughs. This kind of cross-cultural adaptation will challenge even the most accomplished teachers.

This book was released on 2008 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book The Neurolinguistic Approach NLA for Learning and Teaching Foreign Languages

Download or read book The Neurolinguistic Approach NLA for Learning and Teaching Foreign Languages written by Claude Germain and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2018-11-30 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since its inception in Canada in 1998 as a method for teaching French as a second language in a school setting, the Neurolinguistic Approach to second-language acquisition (NLA) has expanded to several countries and is now also applied to teaching adults. Based on research in the neurosciences, psychology, and sociology, the NLA focuses on providing learners with the conditions necessary to acquire spontaneous communication skills in a classroom setting. By ensuring the independent development of effective communication and implicit competence in the second language, the NLA allows learners to genuinely express themselves in their new language. In this volume, co-developer of the approach Claude Germain outlines the history of the NLA’s development and provides insights into its principles, its teaching and acquisition strategies applied in the classroom, and the results it has achieved. This is an essential book for all second-language teachers, as well as researchers interested in the transmission of second languages.

Book Buttress s World Guide to Abbreviations of Organizations

Download or read book Buttress s World Guide to Abbreviations of Organizations written by L. Pitman and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 1156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The previous edition of this directory extended its coverage of the Far East, Australasia and Latin America, areas previously under-represented. For this new edition emphasis has been given to increasing the number of entries for organizations from Britain, the United States and Australia, and particular attention has been paid to new political organizations in Central and Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. The number of entries included has gone up to over 68,000 of which over 9,000 are new or amended. Cross-references from defunct organizations in the previous edition have been deleted, and references (indicated by ex and now) added for organizations which have changed their name since the previous edition. As before, the range of organizations included is broad and only purely local organizations have been excluded. This directory therefore lists official and unofficial organizations, national and international, on all SUbjects: political, economic and social. Acronyms of parent bodies of subsidiary organizations are given where appropriate and equivalencies are used to link acronyms in different languages for the same organization. Further information about the organizations listed can be found in the sources listed in the bibliography. I would like to thank Henry Heaney and Graeme Mackintosh for their advice, and David Grinyer for his technical support. L. M. Pitman Bibliography Adams, R. (ed.)
