Book excerpt: La théorie de l’attachement est un paradigme incontournable pour la compréhension du développement de l’enfant et des interactions parent-enfant. En 2011, une stratégie d’intervention basée sur ces principes, intitulée Intervention Relationnelle (IR), a été implantée dans cinq Centres Jeunesse au Québec, Canada. Une étude a été réalisée afin d’évaluer son efficacité. Les résultats montrent une augmentation significative de la sensibilité maternelle suite à l’intervention (Tarabulsy et al., 2016). Toutefois, aucun facteur pouvant expliquer ce changement n’est identifié. Des études suggèrent que la capacité du parent à déchiffrer adéquatement et à commenter les états mentaux de l’enfant - l’orientation mentale- influence de façon importante la sensibilité parentale (Meins et al., 2001). L’objectif de cette étude est d’examiner si l’orientation mentale constitue un facteur médiateur de la relation entre l’exposition à l’IR et la sensibilité parentale. Elle évalue également les effets modérateurs des symptômes dépressifs et de trauma chez le parent. L’échantillon est constitué de 66 dyades parent-enfant suivies par la protection de la jeunesse. La version courte du Q-sort de comportement maternel est utilisée pour mesurer la sensibilité parentale (Tarabulsy et al., 2009). L’orientation mentale est évaluée par la méthode observationnelle (Meins et Fernyhough, 2015). Le modèle de médiation s’est révélé non significatif. Toutefois, les effets directs de l’IR sur la sensibilité parentale et l’orientation mentale se sont révélés significatifs. L’IR semble donc avoir des effets bénéfiques sur ces deux caractéristiques parentales. Une corrélation bivariée significative est également obtenue entre l’orientation mentale et la sensibilité parentale. Les symptômes dépressifs et de trauma ont une influence modératrice sur la relation entre l’IR et la sensibilité parentale. Les effets de l’IR sur la sensibilité parentale sont d’autant plus marqués lorsque les parents présentent des symptômes dépressifs et de trauma. Ces résultats sont mis en relation avec les implications cliniques et les limites de l’étude.
