Download or read book The Importance of Listening to Children and Adolescents written by Silvana Calaprice and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2019-01-08 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume highlights the importance of teaching adults to listen to children and adolescents, illustrating the principles and contexts that define young people’s tangible and intangible rights and ideals. It reflects on the difficulties that impede the implementation of children and adolescents’ right to be listened to, in line with guidelines linked to national and international policies regarding children and adolescents. The book provides examples of how educational research can be used as a resource for the development of educational processes and of educational systems that put listening and participation at the heart of educational culture, as instruments of intervention and a possible component of social transformation.

Download or read book The evolution of human intelligence written by Brunetto Chiarelli and published by Edizioni Altravista. This book was released on 2016-12-13 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The human body is a biological construction founded on the physical manifestation of the biological being, in which its cultural identity is a variable in continuous transformation subjected to the evolution of the intelligences. This article asks and answers a series of questions: what have been the procedures, the stimuli, and the mechanisms that have lead to the evolution of human intelligence? why has the increase in the quantity of cerebral material advanced, and how many rearrangements have come about in the organisation of the encephalon in the transition from Homo habilis to Homo sapiens? Can we reconstruct them? Is today’s situation stable, or will it be subject to further future differentiations? During his evolutionary process, man becomes revertebrated, he intervenes and changes the environment to his own advantage, but how many times has he redesigned his post-evolutionary strategies and split the species? What weight has education had in the process of coexistence among living systems, and to what extent can the intelligence be motivated by an education and a culture that are equal to their task?

Download or read book Blind Vision written by Zaira Cattaneo and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2023-12-05 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation of the effects of blindness and other types of visual deficit on cognitive abilities. Can a blind person see? The very idea seems paradoxical. And yet, if we conceive of "seeing" as the ability to generate internal mental representations that may contain visual details, the idea of blind vision becomes a concept subject to investigation. In this book, Zaira Cattaneo and Tomaso Vecchi examine the effects of blindness and other types of visual deficit on the development and functioning of the human cognitive system. Drawing on behavioral and neurophysiological data, Cattaneo and Vecchi analyze research on mental imagery, spatial cognition, and compensatory mechanisms at the sensorial, cognitive, and cortical levels in individuals with complete or profound visual impairment. They find that our brain does not need our eyes to "see." Cattaneo and Vecchi address critical questions of broad importance: the relationship of visual perception to imagery and working memory and the extent to which mental imagery depends on normal vision; the functional and neural relationships between vision and the other senses; the specific aspects of the visual experience that are crucial to cognitive development or specific cognitive mechanisms; and the extraordinary plasticity of the brain—as illustrated by the way that, in the blind, the visual cortex may be reorganized to support other perceptual or cognitive funtions. In the absence of vision, the other senses work as functional substitutes and are often improved. With Blind Vision, Cattaneo and Vecchi take on the "tyranny of the visual," pointing to the importance of the other senses in cognition.

Download or read book Meta Emotion written by John Mordechai Gottman and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-02-01 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes research on the emotional communication between parents and children and its effect on the children's emotional development. Inspired by the work, and dedicated to the memory of Dr. Haim Ginott, it presents the results of initial exploratory work with meta-emotion--feelings about feelings. The initial study of meta-emotion generated some theory and made it possible to propose a research agenda. Clearly replication is necessary, and experiments are needed to test the path analytic models which have been developed from the authors' correlational data. The authors hope that other researchers will find these ideas interesting and stimulating, and will inspire investigation in this exciting new area of a family's emotional life.
