Book The Books of Leviticus and Numbers

Download or read book The Books of Leviticus and Numbers written by Thomas Römer and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 778 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A long time rather neglected by biblical scholars, the books of Leviticus and Numbers have recently, after the breakdown of the traditional documentary models, shifted into the centre of the pentateuchal research. According to the new consensus the Torah came into existence during the Persian period as a founding document of nascent Judaism; the books of Leviticus and Numbers contain numerous texts which reflect the very last stages of the formation of the Pentateuch in the Persian period, revealing at the same time that an urge was felt for a continuing actualization and interpretation of the mosaic Law. This volume contains papers about the books of Leviticus and Numbers presented at the Colloquium Biblicum Lovaniense in 2006. The first part gathers essays dealing with general questions of origin, structure and function of Leviticus and Numbers in the whole of the Pentateuch. The second part is dedicated to more particular issues of these books, covering the fields of textual criticism, history of redaction, synchronical analysis and reception history. With more than 30 papers written by international specialists, the present collection is a valuable contribution to the progress of scholarship on these two biblical books.

Book The Deuteronomist s History

Download or read book The Deuteronomist s History written by Hans Ausloos and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2015-10-14 with total page 447 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Deuteronomist’s History, Hans Ausloos provides for the first time a detailed status quaestionis concerning the relationship between the books Genesis–Numbers and the so-called Deuteronom(ist)ic literature. After a presentation of the origins of the 18th and 19th century hypothesis of a Deuteronom(ist)ic redaction, specific attention is paid to the argumentation used during the last century. Particular interest also is paid to the concept of the proto-Deuteronomist and the mostly tentative approaches of the Deuteronom(ist)ic ‘redaction’ of the Pentateuch during the last decades. The book concludes with a critical review and preview of the Deuteronom(ist)ic problem. Each phase in the Deuteronomist’s history is illustrated on the basis of the epilogue of the Book of the Covenant (Exod. 23:20-33).

Book Kanade di Goldene Medine

Download or read book Kanade di Goldene Medine written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2018-10-22 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kanade, di Goldene Medine offers a broad study of its field, with equal attention to English- and French-language materials and contexts. The volume’s essays highlight the fundamental link between the culture and life of Canadian Jews and their Polish roots. This focus brings Yiddish to the fore, in essays focusing on the history of Canadian Yiddish literature, and the relevance of the language for contemporary Canadian Chasidic communities. However, essays in this volume also highlight the writings of contemporary authors, working both in French and English. Thus, the collection explores culture at the borderlands of three languages, with an eye for the link between New Worlds and Old.

Book Exodus in the New Testament

Download or read book Exodus in the New Testament written by Seth M. Ehorn and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2022-03-24 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In focusing exclusively on the book of Exodus and its constant allusions in the New Testament, this new collection of studies seeks both to increase knowledge of the textual transmission of Exodus in the first century, and to encourage further methodological reflection on the use of Scripture vs. scriptural traditions as employed by ancient authors. First exploring the role of Exodus within Judaism in the Second Temple Period, the contributors then reflect upon the rhetorical impact of Exodus citations and allusions in the New Testament. By taking the reader from the Four Gospels through the Pauline and Disputed Letters and Hebrews, and all the way to Revelation itself, this volume demonstrates both the unity and the diversity of appeals to Exodus traditions in Jewish and Christian literature within the Second Temple Period.
