Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Description: This book presents nine biblical themes in essays authored by veteran educators who surprise and affirm readers with personal accounts of how these themes shaped their practice in education. Culture, faith, and praxis often inform one another, and in an era of increased scrutiny and criticism of education, educators hold tremendous power in shaping the education of students by incorporating these values into daily practice. A cycle of improvement follows purposeful attention to biblical principles, and provides educators with the means to reclaim and reshape our profession. When teachers are willing to examine their practice in light of biblical themes and values, learning becomes meaningful and lasting. Often that learning goes beyond the formal educational process. Educators serve as role models, and the experiences we provide for our students shape who they become and how they view life. A faithful educator encourages positive dispositions of the heart, mind, and spirit. The charge and responsibility of developing the hearts, minds, and spirits of those who enter our classrooms, and the magnitude of the call to teach these students, requires faithful recognition of these biblical themes. Endorsements: ""These engaging [essays] encapsulate the essence of excellent teaching; and the reader experiences how implementation of biblical values equates excellent teaching. This book offers answers to Christian teachers on how to integrate faith and learning in day-to-day experiences as they communicate and live their lives before students."" --Janet Arndt, Director of Graduate Education, Gordon College ""This insightful and faith-challenging book is not designed for a quick read, but a thoughtful self-assessment, and more appropriately, a group discussion with colleagues. Each chapter is divided into sections that close with discussion questions . . . about public and private K-12 classrooms and the Christian university setting, preparing adults to work in that system."" --Gary Railsback, Former Dean of the School of Education, Point Loma Nazarene University ""Profoundly reflective, Faithful Education probes faith in praxis and challenges faithful teachers to transform their daily work based on scriptural truth. Immediately useful and engaging, the very essence of Christian teaching is captured to guide and encourage an intense educational climate. Christian educators have been yearning for such a vivid reference that grounds the very core of faithful presence in the classroom."" --Janine F. Allen, Dean of Education and Counseling, Corban University ""If you're like me, you have been searching for a book on faith integration that is appropriate for both the seasoned educator as well as the beginning teacher. Here it is. I enjoyed reading Faithful Teaching, and I endorse it for you if you are answering a call to teach and wondering, 'Now what?' Or, maybe you know what's next. Either way, you won't want to stop reading this book!"" --Ivy Yee-Sakamoto, Professor of Teacher Education, Azusa Pacific University About the Contributor(s): Amy Lynn Dee is Assistant Professor at George Fox University. A former K-6 teacher, instructional specialist, middle school administrator, and Director of Christian Education, Dee now serves the Master of Arts in Teaching program at Fox as Director of Curriculum and Assessment, and the GFU School of Education as NCATE Coordinator. Gary Tiffin currently teaches in and directs the Doctor of Education program at George Fox University. His forty-three-year career in Christian higher education has included many years teaching history and social science courses, and serving as chief academic officer of two universities.

Book Christian Privilege in U S Education

Download or read book Christian Privilege in U S Education written by Kevin J. Burke and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2016-12-08 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using critical curriculum theory as its lens, this book explores the relationship between religion—specifically, Christianity and the Judeo-Christian ethos underlying it—and secular public education in the United States. Despite various 20th-century court decisions separating religion and education, the authors challenge that religion is in fact absent from public education, suggesting instead that it is in fact very much embedded in current public educational practices and discourses and in a variety of assumptions and perspectives underlying understandings of teaching, learning, and teacher preparation. The book reframes the discussion about religion and schooling, arguing that it remains in the language and metaphors of education, in the practices and routines of schooling, in conceptions of the "’child" and the "teacher" (and what happens between them in the spaces we call "learning," the "classroom," and "curriculum") as well as in assumptions about the role of schools emanating from such conceptions and in the current movement toward accountability, standardization, and testing. Christian Privilege in U.S. Education examines not whether Christianity has a place in public education but, rather, the very ways in which it is pervasive in a legally secular system of education even when religion is not a topic taught in school.

Book Les vrais principes de l ducation chr tienne

Download or read book Les vrais principes de l ducation chr tienne written by S M P Antoine Monfat and published by Editions Saint-Sebastien. This book was released on 2016-11-27 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book The Wiley Handbook of Christianity and Education

Download or read book The Wiley Handbook of Christianity and Education written by William Jeynes and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2018-10-02 with total page 698 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive source that demonstrates how 21st century Christianity can interrelate with current educational trends and aspirations The Wiley Handbook of Christianity and Education provides a resource for students and scholars interested in the most important issues, trends, and developments in the relationship between Christianity and education. It offers a historical understanding of these two intertwined subjects with a view to creating a context for the myriad issues that characterize—and challenge—the relationship between Christianity and education today. Presented in three parts, the book starts with thought-provoking essays covering major issues in Christian education such as the movement away from God in American education; the Christian paradigm based on love and character vs. academic industrial models of American education; why religion is good for society, offenders, and prisons; the resurgence of vocational exploration and its integrative potential for higher education; and more. It then looks at Christianity and education around the globe—faith-based schooling in a pluralistic democracy; religious expectations in the Latino home; church-based and community-centered higher education; etc. The third part examines how humanity is determining the relationship between Christianity and education with chapters covering the use of Christian paradigm of living and learning; enrollment, student demographic, and capacity trends in Christian schools after the introduction of private schools; empirical studies on the perceptions of intellectual diversity at elite universities in the US; and more. Provides the breadth and depth of knowledge necessary to gain a sophisticated and nuanced understanding of the complex relationship between Christianity and education and its place in contemporary society A long overdue assessment of the subject, one that takes into account the enormous changes in Christian education Presents a global consideration of the subject Examines Christian education across elementary, secondary, and post-secondary levels The Wiley Handbook of Christianity and Education will be of great interest to Christian educators in the academic world, the teaching profession, the ministry, and the college and graduate level student body.

Book Christian Education Its History and Philosophy

Download or read book Christian Education Its History and Philosophy written by Kenneth O. Gangel and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2002-03-05 with total page 395 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ÒA history of Christian education must not be confused with a record of the achievements of the Sunday School. The discipline has advanced well beyond that stage, and today's sophisticated students fully understand that no proper concept of the history and philosophy of Christian education can be gained without seeing all the ramifications, implications, and influences that have affected it from pre-Christian times to the present.Ó So Drs. Gangel and Benson have written this book, a historical flow of philisophical thought from a Christian point of view. Its focus is cultural-biographical, discussing each philosophy in its particular socio-historical setting, and giving special attention to significant individuals. The format is chronological, beginning with education in biblical times, working upward through history to arrive at the present - and beyond, raising questions and issues for the future.

Book Pursuing Excellence for the Glory of God

Download or read book Pursuing Excellence for the Glory of God written by Keith A. Currivean and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2022-01-13 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is education? How and why do educators do what we do? And, in what way can and ought education be distinctively Christian? These are a few of the probing questions for which this book seeks answers. Among other contributions, Currivean’s book explores a biblical philosophy of Christian education with unprecedented breadth and depth. To accomplish this objective, it considers what education is (chapter 1), what philosophy of education is (chapter 2), and what the ultimate goal of education is (chapter 3). Additionally, this book provides a never-before, Christian overview of twelve philosophies of education (chapters 4–15). Each of those chapters provides an introduction of a particular philosophy of education and some of that philosophy’s exemplars. Each of those chapters also contributes a constructive, Christian critique. Chapter 16 highlights a biblical philosophy of Christian education—featuring some people, some principles, and some priorities for a biblical philosophy of Christian education, viz. pursuing excellence for the glory of God.
