La dimension culturelle, faisant partie intégrante de l'apprentissage d'une langue, implique aussi que les apprenants puissent raisonner, traiter les informations, et argumenter en langue étrangère. Parmi les recherches et les documents officiels qui encouragent de plus en plus à développer l'esprit critique des élèves, beaucoup présentent le débat comme un moyen privilégié pour développer la compétence critique. Cette étude est fondée sur des expérimentations menées en classe de seconde sur la pratique du débat portant sur des sujets d'actualité. Les résultats reposent principalement sur les témoignages des élèves. L'objectif principal de cette étude est de mesurer les apports mutuels entre la mobilisation de l'esprit critique en cours de langue et l'apprentissage d'une langue étrangère. Ce travail s'intéresse plus précisément à la pratique du débat, afin d'analyser dans quelles conditions cet exercice en cours de langues vivantes peut être pertinent du point de vue de la formation au jugement critique et de l'apprentissage de l'anglais. Il est démontré que la préparation du débat, de la part de l'enseignant et de l'élève, et ses conditions de mise en oeuvre, sont des éléments essentiels pour que le débat constitue un outil pertinent pour le développement de l'esprit critique.

Defending a social and anthropological conception of disability as a consequence of any situation that makes a subject uncomfortable and unable to live or act properly, the book explores the difficulties that disabled children face within the school system and considers how social exclusion provokes and exacerbates educational exclusion. With contributions from linguists, educational sociologists, educational psychologists, educators, and historians, the chapters focus on a range of phenomena such as the balance of languages used for teaching, gender equity, associated disorders, and the experiences of left-handed and deaf students.
