Download or read book Preliminary Reconnaissance Report of the 2011 Tohoku Chiho Taiheiyo Oki Earthquake written by Architectural Institute of Japan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-09-03 with total page 480 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Devastating damage in the Tohoku region of Japan occurred during and after the earthquake off the Pacific coast of Tohoku earthquake on March 11, 2011. The AIJ (Architectural Institute of Japan) dispatched reconnaissance teams into the field to obtain basic facts on the damage to buildings due to the massive ground motions and resultant tsunami. Their mission included collecting information on the characteristics of the earthquake itself and the observed major ground motions and tsunamis throughout the area. For the structural damage investigation, buildings are classified by their type of construction, namely, steel buildings, reinforced concrete buildings, wooden houses, etc. along with descriptions of special features for each category of building type. The report summarizes damage associated with ground failures including landslide and liquefaction as well as non-structural damages such as to equipment and facilities, partitioning walls and ceilings, and functional failures in skyscrapers. Also brief description of the Japanese Seismic Design Code will be provided in the Appendix. A proposed scheme of anti-tsunami design for buildings is also included.

Book NEHRP Commentary on the Gidelines for the Seismic Rehabilitation of Buildings

Download or read book NEHRP Commentary on the Gidelines for the Seismic Rehabilitation of Buildings written by Eugene Zeller and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2000-06 with total page 500 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This document from the National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program (NEHRP) was prepared for the Building Seismic Safety Council (BSSC) with funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). It provides commentary on the NEHRP Guidelines for the Seismic Rehabilitation of Buildings. It contains systematic guidance enabling design professionals to formulate effective & reliable rehabilitation approaches that will limit the expected earthquake damage to a specified range for a specified level of ground shaking. This kind of guidance applicable to all types of existing buildings & in all parts of the country has never existed before. Illustrated.

Book Hyogo Ken Nanbu Earthquake of January 17 1995

Download or read book Hyogo Ken Nanbu Earthquake of January 17 1995 written by Committee on Ports and Harbors Lifelines and published by ASCE Publications. This book was released on 1996-01-01 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Prepared by the Committee on Ports and Harbors Lifelines of the Technical Council on Lifeline Earthquake Engineering of ASCE. Hyogo-Ken Nanbu Earthquake of January 17, 1995: A Post-Earthquake Reconnaissance of Port Facilities describesØthe seismic performance of ports in the Osaka Bay region of Japan following the Hyogo-Ken Nanbu earthquake. A team of investigators observed and evaluated the seismic performance of the port facilities and then held numerous data-gathering meetings with representatives from relevant port authorities, engineering consulting firms, construction companies, universities, and private research organizations in Japan. The investigation was carried out over a 10-day period (February 18-27, 1995) and focused primarily on the Port of Kobe, the Port of Osaka and, to a lesser degree, the Kansai Airport. This first-hand documentation of perishable data will enhance future engineering and research work at these and other ports around the world.

Book Geotechnical Reconnaissance of the Effects of the January 17 1995 Hyogoken Nanbu Earthquake Japan

Download or read book Geotechnical Reconnaissance of the Effects of the January 17 1995 Hyogoken Nanbu Earthquake Japan written by Koichi Akai and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 1997 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Jan. 17, 1995, Hyogoken-Nanbu Earthquake was one of the worst disasters to hit Japan in almost half a century. It has been compared in its impact to the great Kanto (Tokyo) Earthquake of 1923. The Kobe-Osaka region held many similarities in its geologic and tectonic setting to many areas along the West Coast, and possibly, other areas of the U.S. A geotechnical reconnaissance to identify the relevant problems and issues was organized. This report provides a timely, first-hand overview of the type and extent of the geotechnical aspects of the damage.

Book The Hy go ken Nanbu Earthquake

Download or read book The Hy go ken Nanbu Earthquake written by Earthquake Engineering Research Institute and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The most devastating earthquake to hit Japan since the 1923 Tokyo earthquake occurred at 5:46 A.M. local time on January 17, 1995. As this report went to press, over 5,000 people were reported killed, more than 26,000 people were injured, and over 300,000 people were left homeless. At the time of the earthquake, about 40 American engineers, scientists, and government officials were in Osaka, 30 km east of Kobe, for a joint U.S.-Japan Workshop on Urban Earthquake Hazard Reduction, co-sponsored by the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI) and the Japan Institute of Social Safety Science (ISSS), and funded by National Science Foundation (NSF). The workshop participants immediately undertook preliminary post earthquake reconnaissance efforts ... This report summarizes preliminary information gathered by the workshop participants in the first week after the earthquake. The damage caused by the magnitude 6.8 Hyogo-Ken Nanbu earthquake (Great Hanshin Earthquake Disaster) is so extensive that field investigations and cooperative studies with other organizations will continue for some time--

Download or read book Proceedings of Italian Concrete Days 2016 written by Marco di Prisco and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-04-16 with total page 557 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gathers the best peer-reviewed papers presented at the Italian Concrete Days national conference, held in Rome, Italy, on October 27-28, 2016. The conference topics encompass the aspects of design, execution, rehabilitation and control of concrete structures, with particular reference to theory and modeling, applications and realizations, materials and investigations, technology and construction techniques. The contributions amply demonstrate that today’s structural concrete applications concern not only new constructions, but more and more rehabilitation, conservation, strengthening and seismic upgrading of existing premises, and that requirements cover new aspects within the frame of sustainability, including environmental friendliness, durability, adaptability and reuse of works and / or materials. As such the book represents an invaluable, up-to-the-minute tool, providing an essential overview of structural concrete, as well as all new materials with cementitious matrices.
