Book Knowledge Accumulation Within an Organization

Download or read book Knowledge Accumulation Within an Organization written by Ngo Van Long and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this article, we consider a knowledge accumulation problem within an organization that cannot prevent the worker from quitting and using the knowledge outside the organization. We show that knowledge accumulation is delayed: The fraction of working time allocated to knowledge creation is highest at the early career stage, falls gradually, then rises again, before falling finally toward zero. We determine the effect of a change in the severity of the enforcement problem (or the specificity of knowledge). We also discuss the form of the optimal life-cycle wage profiles, the role of the initial knowledge level, and the role of discounting.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present work tries to extend the existing methodology about specific contents of knowledge management. In order to do it, we have based on the definition and the characteristics of knowledge in organizations and their relation with the creation of sustainable competitive advantages. Specifically, we suggest a set of actions to be used by managers. We examine the structure by which the organizations acquire knowledge, process to which we denominated accumulation. Within this last section, the present work is dedicated to one of the essential elements that comprise the knowledge management, as it is the understanding of the process by means of which the organizations make the accumulation of the necessary knowledge for the obtaining of sustainable competitive advantages. One considers, from the point of view of the management, the existing tools of management within this field, as it is the influence of the networks and the technologies in all the process and what tools we dispose to develop it.

This book was released on 2000-01-01 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: '. . . this is a substantive contribution to the literature on capability development, one which breaks new ground on a hitherto little understood aspect of the knowledge management literature: knowledge management issues related with transition stage. . . Few researchers have addressed the full complexity of the transition process of capability development, drawing on such an impressive set of data and over such an extended period of time. By doing so, the book provides a range of new insights into knowledge management issues related with the process of capability development, namely, those related to the organizational knowledge creation within a latecomer firm. It should be read and discussed.' - Muriela Pádua, Journal of Evolutionary Economics Strategic management literature has, until now, concentrated on the analysis of how large innovative firms maintain, rebuild, or renew strategic capabilities. This important book illustrates the complex transition process involved as firms accumulate knowledge and develop new types of knowledge management to build the primary strategic capabilities.

Book A Strategy for Knowledge Accumulation and Dissemination in the Engineering of Software Systems

Download or read book A Strategy for Knowledge Accumulation and Dissemination in the Engineering of Software Systems written by Sarah Bassett Lee and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Information technology organizations often assume that to improve knowledge sharing, a knowledge management system must be independently developed or purchased. The intent of this dissertation is to illustrate that a knowledge sharing strategy can be designed by combining existing technologies and techniques. While some software development work may be required, it should be largely limited to the integration required to fill gaps that are critical to a usable knowledge framework. This recommended approach will be demonstrated through participatory action research in a globally diverse corporate environment. There are many stakeholders in the information technology (IT) domain, including the business community and software development and infrastructure support staff. This project explores to what degree knowledge sharing will be enhanced across IT stakeholders by employing a strategy that exploits existing technology investments and capitalizes on the social aspect of software engineering. The context chosen to address this question consists of the activities required to define, analyze, and achieve the non-functional requirements of a software system. Conclusions from the work include the following recommendations. Organizations must recognize the importance of processes in the enablement of knowledge sharing and the impact that immature processes can have on intended collaboration. Process must first enable knowledge sharing, and organizational changes may be a part of that process improvement. A technology layer can then be added to improve knowledge creation and sharing. Workflow automation within communities of practice enables the flow of knowledge between knowledge workers with common goals. Enterprise knowledge sharing capability can be evolved by focusing the scope of each effort on a community of practice. Cultural change can be achieved incrementally through these communities. .

Book Scientific Research in Education

Download or read book Scientific Research in Education written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2002-03-28 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Researchers, historians, and philosophers of science have debated the nature of scientific research in education for more than 100 years. Recent enthusiasm for "evidence-based" policy and practice in educationâ€"now codified in the federal law that authorizes the bulk of elementary and secondary education programsâ€"have brought a new sense of urgency to understanding the ways in which the basic tenets of science manifest in the study of teaching, learning, and schooling. Scientific Research in Education describes the similarities and differences between scientific inquiry in education and scientific inquiry in other fields and disciplines and provides a number of examples to illustrate these ideas. Its main argument is that all scientific endeavors share a common set of principles, and that each fieldâ€"including education researchâ€"develops a specialization that accounts for the particulars of what is being studied. The book also provides suggestions for how the federal government can best support high-quality scientific research in education.

Book Dynamics of Knowledge Corporate Systems and Innovation

Download or read book Dynamics of Knowledge Corporate Systems and Innovation written by Hiroyuki Itami and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-03-10 with total page 357 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Snow fell quietly the night before and the morning sun was shining brightly under the blue sky the next day. Looking out to the snow-white garden from a large w- dow, Sid Winter, one of the contributors to this book, was beaming with smile. It was such a nice and calm morning in the middle of December at a summer resort hotel one hour from Tokyo. That morning, he was going to present the last paper to our conference and to everyone’s surprise, in the very same morning a praising book review of the Japanese translation of his famous book appeared in the major economic journal in Japan. Everyone congratulated him for the coincidence and it was such a happy ending to the three-day conference. The atmosphere of the conference, out of which this book grew, was very st- ulating and cordial at the same time. Without picking on the minor defects of the presented papers, every participant was trying to contribute by probing the issues presented deeper and trying suggestions to make the papers better. Among others, Bruce Kogut was responding fondly on Jiro Nonaka’s comment on his paper and Dong-Sung Cho was trying to expand even more the already very broad conceptual framework that Hiro Itami presented. For sure, the dynamics of knowledge creation was at work in the conference room and the dining hall.

Book The Effects of Knowledge Management on Innovative Success

Download or read book The Effects of Knowledge Management on Innovative Success written by Uwe Cantner and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this paper is to analyse the effects of knowledge management on the innovation success of firms in Germany. Using a matching procedure on data from the German Innovation Survey of 2003 (Mannheim Innovation Panel), we pair firms applying knowledge management with twin firms with similar characteristics not applying knowledge management. Our focus is on investigating the effects of knowledge management techniques on the economic success of firms with product and process innovations. The results of our matching analysis reveal that firms which apply knowledge management perform better in terms of higher-than-average shares of turnover with innovative products compared to their twins. We do not find a significant effect of knowledge management on the share of cost reductions with process innovation.

Book Knowledge Accumulation and Dissemination in MNEs

Download or read book Knowledge Accumulation and Dissemination in MNEs written by Stephen Tallman and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper proposes that the mechanisms of external knowledge capture and internal knowledge transfer can best be understood at the micro-organizational level of Communities of Practice (CoPs) rather than at that of the subsidiaries' network. The paper then offers a model of the dynamics of organizational learning in network organizations, such as MNEs, which builds on this unit of analysis. This model: (i) clarifies the link between CoPs and Networks of Practice (NoPs), by offering a novel conceptual model of how knowledge, particularly tacit, embedded knowledge, is absorbed; and (ii) proposes a new link that between CoPs and Internal Networks of Practice (INoPs), as another essential ingredient to knowledge accumulation and transfer within firms. We also propose that the firm-level architectural knowledge that is developed through INoPs is valuable and rare, and in combination with the component knowledge developed through NoPs, can create novel knowledge that may be a source of competitive advantage.
