Beginning with that case, this volume examines the deposition and exile of indigenous monarchs by the British and French – with examples in India, Burma, Malaysia, Vietnam, Madagascar, Tunisia and Morocco – from the early nineteenth century down to the eve of decolonisation. It argues that removal of native sovereigns, and sometimes abolition of dynasties, provided a powerful strategy used by colonisers, though European overlords were seldom capable of quelling resistance in the conquered countries, or of effacing the memory of local monarchies and the legacies they left behind.

Mbah argues that the Bight of Biafra region’s Atlanticization—or the interaction between regional processes and Atlantic forces such as the slave trade, colonialism, and Christianization—between 1750 and 1920 transformed gender into the primary mode of social differentiation in the region. He incorporates over 250 oral narratives of men and women across a range of social roles and professions with material culture practices, performance traditions, slave ship data, colonial records, and more to reveal how Africans channeled the socioeconomic forces of the Atlantic world through their local ideologies and practices. The gendered struggles over the means of social reproduction conditioned the Bight of Biafra region’s participation in Atlantic systems of production and exchange, and defined the demography of the region’s forced diaspora. By looking at male and female constructions of masculinity and sexuality as major indexes of social change, Emergent Masculinities transforms our understanding of the role of gender in precolonial Africa and fills a major gap in our knowledge of a broader set of theoretical and comparative issues linked to the slave trade and the African diaspora.

No matter its pretensions, Nigeria will at some point have to reform its present pseudo federal arrangement to create a more inclusive, equitable and proper federal structure. If not, the country will continue to face epileptic developmental thrusts, militancy in the Niger Delta and a ruinous intensifying clamour for self-determination by disadvantaged ethnic groups, especially the Igbo. The author argues that in the world, in the era of technology inspired globalisation, it is impossible to hold an unwilling people hostage in any country without negative consequences. He makes a case for a new order in Nigeria, expressing the view that Nigeria is caught in a vicious circle of graft and instability and nothing will change until Nigeria finds the proper foundational matrix to galvanise the talents and resources of the people and create a productive economy.

Worse still some of our people here think that the whole of Africa was involved in the slave trade. This book is to put forward the authentic history of the slave trade. Moreover this book will show clearly the areas affected by the slave trade. The aim of the writer of this book is to make the history of the slave trade clear and simple to read. The idea is to make the book affordable and available as much as possible in order to study the history in Africa and overseas. If the history of the slave trade is taught and studied carefully any such mistakes will be avoided in future.

After some reflections and applying Scientific, Religious and Sociological knowledge, I concluded that the Outcast System is baseless, instituted in ignorance and being perpetuated in ignorance. To illustrate, I told the pitiable story of what would happen if a freeborn tries to marry an outcast. This book will make the readers worldwide abandon the System without coercion or force of law.
