Book Leaching Kinetics of Valuable Metals

Download or read book Leaching Kinetics of Valuable Metals written by Stefano Ubaldini and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2021-05-07 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Leaching is a primary extractive operation in hydrometallurgical processing, by which a metal of interest is transferred from naturally occurring minerals into an aqueous solution. In essence, it involves the selective dissolution of valuable minerals, where the ore, concentrate, or matte is brought into contact with an active chemical solution known as a leach solution. Currently, the hydrometallurgical processes have a great number of applications, not only in the mining sector—in particular, for the recovery of precious metals—but also in the environmental sector, for the recovery of toxic metals from wastes of various types, and their reuse as valuable metals, after purification. Therefore, there is an increasing need to develop novel solutions, to implement environmentally sustainable practices in the recovery of these valuable and precious metals, with particular reference to critical metals; those included in materials that are indispensable to modern life and for which an exponential increase in consumption is already a reality, or will be in a short-term perspective. For publication in this Special Issue, consideration has been given to articles that contribute to the optimization of the kinetic conditions of innovative hydrometallurgical processes—economic and of low environmental impact—applied to the recovery of valuable and critical metals.

Book Leaching and Recovery of Nickel and Cobalt from the Waterval Boven Laterite Ore

Download or read book Leaching and Recovery of Nickel and Cobalt from the Waterval Boven Laterite Ore written by Catherine Kentse Thubakgale and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The depletion and expensive processing of nickel-rich sulphide deposits have posed a threat to the steel-making industry, where nickel is used as an alloy element. Processing of nickel sulphide ores by pyrometallurgy has also proven to be a challenge due to associated high energy requirements, strict environmental regulations on carbon emissions, expensive construction material and maintenance. Mining companies along with researchers are now challenged to develop new mining and metallurgical technologies which will be energy-efficient, cost-effective and environmentally friendly for processing lean nickel sulphide and low-grade laterite ores. Previously stockpiled low-grade nickel laterite ores are currently the potential alternative source of nickel for the steel-making industry. Hydrometallurgy has emerged as the most suitable processing method with low energy requirements and inexpensive construction materials. This study is aimed at finding an economic and environmentally friendly process suitable for atmospheric pressure leaching of nickel and cobalt from the Waterval Boven, Mpumalanga, low-grade nickel laterite ore using sulphuric acid (H2SO4)

Book The Acid Leaching of Nickel and Copper Sulphidic Ore in the Presence of Pyrite

Download or read book The Acid Leaching of Nickel and Copper Sulphidic Ore in the Presence of Pyrite written by and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experiments carried out under atmospheric pressure and temperature (25 degrees centigrade) and sterile conditions show that the dissolution rate of nickel and copper from a pyrrhotite-pentlandite-chalcopyrite ore in a lixiviant of sulphuric acid is greatly enhanced in the presence of pyrite. At a pH value of 1,8 and in the presence of pyrite of equal mass to that of the ore, the recoveries of nickel and copper improved dramatically (21 and 80 per cent respectively). At a pH value of 4,0 the recovery of nickel was enhanced, but the chalcopyrite was refractory. A galvanic mechanism is probable, but cannot be proved from these experiments. The economic implications of the results are discussed.

Book In place Leaching of Primary Sulfide Ores

Download or read book In place Leaching of Primary Sulfide Ores written by and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From AIME solution mining symposinm; Dallas, Texas, USA (Feb 1974). Experimental results obtained in laboratory leaching studies of primary copper sulfide ore in sulfuric acid systems pressurized with oxygen are interpreted by a computerized geometric model involving the movement of a reaction zone through the ore fragments. Physical properties of the ore, including size, shape, and mineral content, are considered. The leaching mechanism involves mixed kinetics and includes a surface reaction within a moving reaction zone plus pore diffusion of dissolved oxygen through the reacted portion of the ore fragment to the reaction zone, The results are applicable to conditions that would exist in nuclear solution mining or simiIar processes in which the ore is converted into rubble and then inundated by a leach solution adequately supplied with oxidants. Experimental results at 90 deg C are correlated with the model, which includes temperature-dependent parameters. (auth).

Book Process Flowsheeting of a Hybrid Nickel Leach Circuit

Download or read book Process Flowsheeting of a Hybrid Nickel Leach Circuit written by Abbas Razavimanesh and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Much work has already been carried out on the High Pressure Acid Leaching (HPAL) and Atmospheric Leaching (AL) of laterite in various acidic solutions. However, much of this data is scattered and discrete. As such, there is a gap between the generation of experimental data and the utilisation of this data to optimise the operation of a flowsheet. The steps followed during the course of this work involved first the experimental identification of rheology/kinetics of laterite. An operational, flexible, steady-state model of a hybrid pressure acid leaching circuits was then developed to take into account the effect of different operating parameters and calculate the major operating costs, i.e acid and steam consumption. With the aid of the model, the performance of nickel circuits was analysed and the optimum operating parameters identified.
