Download or read book A Foundation Course for College Organic Chemistry written by B. S. Balaji and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2024-08-22 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To understand and improve the underlying principles that govern how organic reactions occur, A Foundation Course for College Organic Chemistry follows a brick-by-brick building approach. Emphasis is given to interrelating experimental facts and findings with predictions (mechanism) and inferences (results). Discussions focus on clarifying how complex organic reactions occur, which is based on electronegativity differences, movement of electrons (through σ framework or π bonds), and addition or removal of atoms (hydrogen, halogens) or groups (hydroxy, amino). The book begins with simple rules governing the deconstruction of reactions and applies them to explain how esterification, amide, and cyanide hydrolysis reactions proceed. The importance of stereochemistry (used in drug development, biology, and medicine), aromatic electrophilic and nucleophilic substitutions, reaction kinetics, and dynamics is explained with suitable examples. Features: A systematic and structured approach is used to study all aspects of reactive intermediates (generation, structure, geometry, and reactions of carbocations, carbanions, and carbon-free radicals) This book incorporates scientific methods to deduce reaction mechanisms with simple and relevant explanations, and limitations A proper explanation is given to understand the influence of functional groups on the stability and reactivity of intermediates, pKa, HSAB principles, structure-activity relations, and how these can be exploited in organic chemistry Information is presented in an accessible way for students, teachers, researchers, and scientists

Download or read book Who s Who in Fluorescence 2008 written by Chris D. Geddes and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-07-10 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: th The Who’s Who in Fluorescence 2008 is the 6 Volume of the Who’s Who Series. The previous five volumes (2003 - 2007) have been very well received indeed, with 1000’s of copies being distributed around the world, through conferences and workshops, as well as through internet book sites. Recently, the WWiF Volume was th disseminated at the 10 MAFS conference in Salzburg, Austria. The Volume was very well received indeed. We subsequently thank Professor Otto Wolfbeis for help in disseminating the Volume at the MAFS venue. This new 2008 Volume features some 418 entries from no fewer than 38 countries worldwide, as compared to 405 entries (35 different countries) in 2007 and 366 entries in the 2006 volume, respectively. We have received 31 new entries this year, and deleted 18 entries that were not updated by contributors from past years. In 2007 some 106 AIM numbers were submitted and listed, 88 the year before. This year, the number submitted has risen again to 129 entries, greater than 30 % of all contributors. In addition, the Volume has a continued strong company support, which will enable us to further disseminate the Volume in 2008-2009. In this regard we especially thank the instrumentation companies for their continued support, where without their financial contributions, it is likely that the Volume would not be the success it is today. The new WWiF website was also launched in August 2007. The website features all the latest WWiF templates and submission information.
Download or read book Synthesis of Azetidines from Imines by Cycloaddition Reactions written by Navjeet Kaur and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2023-01-10 with total page 387 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Synthesis of Azetidines from Imines by Cycloaddition Reactions presents several methodologies for the synthesis of azetidines from imines by cycloaddition reactions. The azetidines, known as important contribution of science to humanity, are important organic compounds that have occupied a basic position in the pharmaceutical chemistry for over a hundred years because of their biological activities. They are the fundamental skeleton of several antibiotics, probiotics and alkaloids. The synthesis of azetidines is a constant challenge for medicinal chemists, hence this book comprehensively describes azetidine ring synthesis. With this book, readers will be able to quickly assess possible synthetic approaches and evaluate whether preparation of a four-membered nitrogen containing ring is reasonable. - Highlights cycloaddition reactions of imines - Covers the synthesis of azetidines
