Book excerpt: This richly illustrated book provides a system for understanding and memorizing musculoskeletal anatomy and kinesiology. While there are many books available that cover the subject, Mastering Muscles & Movement presents a fresh approach that is designed to leverage the natural ways the brain observes, learns, and recalls this type of information. Rather than employing the usual one-muscle-per-page format, this book treats groups of muscles as "movement families" and presents them in a way that provides a rich visual, verbal, and relational learning environment. The result is a truly brain-friendly experience for the student. The myriad details and interrelationships are easily recognized in simple and natural ways by the innovative arrangement of the muscle information on each page and from page-to-page. The reader comfortably stays aware of the bigger picture while studying any one item, easily compares and contrasts related features and facts, and is enabled to structure study time to play to strengths or to eliminate weaknesses. Over 170 muscles are covered, as well as all bones, bony landmarks, joints, ligaments, and other related structures. Anatomy and kinesiology concepts and terminology are clearly presented. Detailed yet friendly diagrams employ over 600 illustrations to provide accurate renditions that leverage the natural ways that the brain understands and learns this multifaceted body of knowledge.

Book Activity Manual for Introduction to Kinesiology

Download or read book Activity Manual for Introduction to Kinesiology written by Marilyn Mitchell and published by Cognella Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2013-08-19 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Used in conjunction with the main textbook, the Activity Manual for Introduction to Kinesiology: The Science of Human Physical Activity provides outstanding, accessible, hands-on application of the concepts of kinesiology. Teaching kinesiology courses can be challenging given the scope of material across all the sub-fields. Additionally, there is often a lack of resources to provide expensive laboratory equipment for introductory classes. This manual provides instructors with laboratory experiences that involve all the students in the introductory class, as well as activities for individual students in programs that do not offer lab sections. The labs and activities in the manual require minimal and inexpensive equipment. Many important features of the manual serve to enhance the textbook: Activities are provided for each chapter One or more labs are provided for each chapter All activities and labs have a clearly stated purpose, an introduction, methods/materials, results and discussion questions, and reference sections All activities and labs have relevant graphics, charts or tables to support learning Discussion questions stimulate critical thinking and encourage further research Many of the activities and labs use a cross-disciplinary approach to aid understanding of the material The extensive range of activities in this manual makes it possible for professors to easily provide numerous opportunities for meaningful application of the study of kinesiology. Book First year Kinesiology Students Learning Experience in a Practice based Course

Download or read book First year Kinesiology Students Learning Experience in a Practice based Course written by Stefanie Bronson and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to investigate first-year kinesiology studentsâ learning experience in a practice-based course. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with eleven first-student kinesiology students following their completion of a first year practice-based course. The six core tenets of experiential learning theory were used to structure the interview protocol and framed the initial steps in data analysis. The results show that the practice-based learning experience is different for all students. Despite such differences, four central themes emerged from the data: the importance of connection, consideration for the individuality of all learners, the influential role of the instructor, and the importance of the learning space. The significance of these findings is discussed and recommendations are provided for the enhancement of student learning in practice-based or experiential learning environments.
