Book Jump starting Self employment

Download or read book Jump starting Self employment written by Rita Almeida and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2007 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One important concern of governments in developing countries is how to phase out large safety net programs. The authors evaluate the short-run effects of one possible exit strategy-programs that promote self-employment-in Argentina. They provide evidence that a small fraction of beneficiaries were attracted by this program. Overall, potential participants to self-employment are more likely to be female household heads and more educated beneficiaries relative to the average Jefes beneficiaries. Using nonexperimental methods, the authors show that participation in the program does affect the labor supply of participants, by reducing the probability of having an outside job, especially for males, and increasing the total number of hours worked. But the intervention fails to produce on average income gains to participating individuals and households in the short run. The fact that a small subset of former welfare beneficiaries are attracted to the program, coupled with the fact that only a subset of participants (younger and more educated beneficiaries, and with previous self-employment experience) benefited from participation has important implications for this intervention to represent a viable exit strategy from welfare.

Book Leveraging Technology to Improve School Safety and Student Wellbeing

Download or read book Leveraging Technology to Improve School Safety and Student Wellbeing written by Huffman, Stephanie P. and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2019-10-25 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From implementation in the classroom to building security, technology has permeated all aspects of education throughout the United States. Though hardware has been developed to identify and prevent weaponry from entering a school, including video cameras, entry control devices, and weapon detectors, school safety remains a fundamental concern with the recent increase of school violence and emergence of cyberbullying. Professionals need answers on how to use this technology to protect the physical, emotional, and social wellbeing of all children. Leveraging Technology to Improve School Safety and Student Wellbeing is a pivotal reference source that provides vital research on the application of technology in P-12 school safety and its use to foster an environment where students can feel safe and be academically successful. The book will comprise empirical, conceptual, and practical applications that craft an overall understanding of the issues in creating a “safe” learning environment and the role technology can and should play; where a student’s wellbeing is valued and protected from external and internal entities, equitable access is treasured as a means for facilitating the growth of the whole student, and policy, practices, and procedures are implemented to build a foundation to transform the culture and climate of the school into an inclusive nurturing environment. While highlighting topics such as professional development, digital citizenship, and community infrastructure, this publication is ideally designed for educators, scholars, leadership practitioners, coordinators, policymakers, government officials, law enforcement, security professionals, IT consultants, parents, academicians, researchers, and students.
