Book Rural Education Research in the United States

Download or read book Rural Education Research in the United States written by Gwen C. Nugent and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-04-22 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume represents current and futuristic thinking of seminal rural education researchers, with the goal of providing perspectives and directions to inform the work of rural education research, practice, and policy. With an emphasis on leveraging collaboration among key rural education stakeholders, this title both outlines our current research knowledge base and maps a future research agenda for maximizing the educational experiences and achievement of rural K-12 students and their families and educators in the United States. In examining the interrelated impacts of teacher practices, family engagement, school/community environment and contextual factors, the book offers the evidence-based insights of seminal researchers on issues ranging from professional development and family-school partnership approaches to methodological considerations. It also explores the needs, opportunities and realities associated with translating research to the arenas of practice and policy – while considering how the latter can inform future scholarship.

Book Organizational partnerships for food policy research impact

Download or read book Organizational partnerships for food policy research impact written by Mabiso, Athur and published by Intl Food Policy Res Inst. This book was released on 2013-12-12 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recently discourse has grown about the importance of partnerships for adding value to agriculture research, strengthening policy capacities, and enhancing food policy impact on global food security and poverty reduction. However, the literature on partnerships specifically focusing on food policy research impact is still mostly emerging. This paper contributes to our understanding of food policy–research partnerships and provides a review of the theory and empirical literature about the factors that contribute to effective food policy–research partnerships. The literature points to the emergence of organizational partnerships as primarily driven by subjective perceptions about potential partners, the complex and uncertain external environment, access to resources through partnership and expectations of potential impact of the partnership. Perceptions that are found to be important include trust, mutuality of partner goals, legitimacy of partner and the perception that partnering will achieve more than what one organization can accomplish independently through cost sharing, lower transactions costs and increased competitiveness. Effectively implementing each phase of the partnership cycle, from scoping to reviewing and revising, with effective communication throughout all phases, is critical to achieve high quality and impactful food policy–research partnerships.

Book Sustainable Intensification in Smallholder Agriculture

Download or read book Sustainable Intensification in Smallholder Agriculture written by Ingrid Oborn and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-02-17 with total page 410 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sustainable intensification has recently been developed and adopted as a key concept and driver for research and policy in sustainable agriculture. It includes ecological, economic and social dimensions, where food and nutrition security, gender and equity are crucial components. This book describes different aspects of systems research in agriculture in its broadest sense, where the focus is moved from farming systems to livelihoods systems and institutional innovation. Much of the work represents outputs of the three CGIAR Research Programs on Integrated Systems for the Humid Tropics, Aquatic Agricultural Systems and Dryland Systems. The chapters are based around four themes: the conceptual underpinnings of systems research; sustainable intensification in practice; integrating nutrition, gender and equity in research for improved livelihoods; and systems and institutional innovation. While most of the case studies are from countries and agro-ecological zones in Africa, there are also some from Latin America, Southeast Asia and the Pacific.
