Download or read book Pulping and Papermaking of Nonwood Plant Fibers written by Z.M.A. Ainun and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2023-04-01 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pulping and Papermaking of Non-wood Plant Fibres presents the latest technologies associated with the papermaking process. With chapters specific to each non-wood species, the book provides step-by-step guidance on processes such as pulping, bleaching, blending and beating. Non-wood fibers are practical for pulp and paper production due to their chemical content of cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin percentages. Beginning with a general overview of non-wood fibers in the papermaking process, chapters then take a deep dive into different raw materials and their processes, including bamboo, corn stalk, pineapple leaves and sugarcane. This book is an essential resource for researchers, scientists and industry specialists. - Provides comprehensive coverage of the processes involved in pulp and papermaking technology for each species of non-wood raw materials - Written by the leading research and industrial experts in the field of pulping, bleaching, blending, beating and papermaking processes - Includes step-by-step processes and methodologies
Download or read book Kenaf A Multi Purpose Crop for Several Industrial Applications written by Andrea Monti and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-06 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Natural plant fibers fibres are being increasingly used in manufacturing industrial products because of their renewable and biodegradable natures. Kenaf is an annual bast fibre crop that can provide fibres for several industrial applications (composites, insulation mats, absorbents, bedding material, etc.) as well as raw material for energy exploitation (solid biofuels). Kenaf: A Multi-Purpose Crop for Several Industrial Applications introduces the physiology and field management of kenaf, agronomy, productivity, harvesting as well as its the industrial and energy uses of this promising non-food crop. Including recent research collected by the BIOKENAF project, Kenaf: A Multi-Purpose Crop for Several Industrial Applications provides a global picture of state of the art research and developments with Kenaf from Asia, USA and Australia. This thorough introduction if followed up with an assessment of the crops economic viability as well as an the environmental impact assessment of kenaf. Although not a new crop, Kenaf: A Multi-Purpose Crop for Several Industrial Applications provides a comprehensive introduction to this crop and its developing applications for energy engineers, industry managers, politicians and managers working to develop sustainable energy sources and bio-economies.

Download or read book Tropical Ecosystems in Australia written by Dilwyn Griffiths and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-11-07 with total page 135 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the last century, the world has lived through changes more rapid than those experienced at any other time in human history, leading to pressing environmental problems and demands on the world’s finite resources. Nowhere is this more evident than across the world’s warm belt; a region likely to have the greatest problems and which is home to some of the world’s most disadvantaged people. This book reviews aspects of the biology of tropical ecosystems of northern Australia, as they have been affected by climatic, social and land-use changes. Tropical Australia can be regarded as a microcosm of the world’s tropics and as such, shares with other tropical regions many of the conflicts between various forms of development and environmental considerations. The book draws on a wide range of case studies of tropical Australian ecosystems ranging from coastal coral reefs and mangroves, known to be among the most vulnerable to the effects of the imposed changes, to cropping and pasture lands which, under careful management, have the potential remain as productive and sustainable agricultural or forestry ecosystems. Expert author Dilwyn Griffiths -emphasizes the importance of maintaining an active program for the establishment and management of national parks and environmental reserves -describes the effects of mining and other forms of industrial and urban development with particular reference to mine-site rehabilitation - explores problems relating to the restoration of marginally uneconomic farming land as alternative forms of land-use such as carbon farming through photosynthetically-driven carbon sequestration. This accessible reference work should find a place in educational libraries at all levels and become an essential resource for environmentalists and anyone with interests in various forms of land-use and development.

Download or read book WORLD LONG FIBER CROPS written by Ratikanta Maiti and published by American Academic Press. This book was released on 2017-09-18 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Vegetable fibers play an important role in domestic use and fiber industry for different purposes such as ropes, chords, twines, binders, gunny bags, carpets etc. Long vegetable fibers include both bast fibers obtained the bark of the stem and the fibers obtained from leaves. Among the bast fibers are utee, kenaf, ramie, flax, Hibiscus spp. and leaf fibers such as Agave sp. The present gives a detailed account of important bast fibers of world with respect to utility, botany, development of fibers, anatomy, methods of extraction, quality. There exist large variations among bast fibers in anatomical structures among different bass fibers crops and among varieties of the same species. In the case of ramie and flax fibers cells, oval are arranged in isolated manner or in patches in the cortex. The bast fibers are extracted by retting process caused by bacterial actions while in the case of ramie being cellulosic the fibers are extracted by chemical degumming process. The book deals with distribution, anatomy, extraction methods of few Mexican laef fibres such as Agave lecheguilla, yucca carnersana exploited extensively in arid lands of Nrteast Mexico. In the last part of the book is given a concise review on the technology of the fibers and its quality. The book will be useful in fiber industry and serve as text book in agriculture.
