Download or read book Memoirs of a Bipolar Ex Podiatrist written by Jonathan Perry Stern and published by Dorrance Publishing. This book was released on 2012-09 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Memoirs of a Bipolar Ex-Podiatrist has been written to provide hope for other bipolar people. Have you ever wondered who you are and/or why you behave the way you do? The author wondered that for 35 years until he was finally diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder (BPD). The author was happy to finally have an identity, it also explained his racing thoughts, dramatic mood swings, impulsiveness, impatience, eagerness to be "class clown," and innate intelligence for subjects most lack interest in. The author started to study about fellow bipolars (Patty Duke, Hemingway, Poe, Lincoln, Van Gogh, and Hendrix) and noticed creative faculties conflicted with logical faculties. Hence, he pursued his dreams of writing a poetry anthology, a historical fantasy fiction novel about BPD, and a well-researched, self-help memoir about BPD. The author has overcome an abusive father and others, bankruptcy, and divorce to continually strive for excellence in relationships and career success. He has constantly tried to educate others on how they can overcome any disorder by having faith in a higher power, eating right, exercising, being compliant with their medication regimen, and learning from competent psychiatrists and psychotherapists. Also, surrounding yourself with positive and uplifting people is essential.

Download or read book Gifted written by Cassondra Robinson and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2019-12-10 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In order to overcome rejection even though one may be gifted, it is important to understand who God is and the purpose He created for each of us as an individual. Being gifted relates to being exceptional, proficient, skillful, and talented. It may even classify an individual as an expert or a professional. Oftentimes, it is problematic to understand why there is conflict in our lives. We must contend with good and evil. As a Christian, we are conscientious that we have a God who created us with expectations. We must make an effort to work on our spiritual lives and to live peaceably with all men. A life of discipline is a result of accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. Discipline progresses through intimacy with God. Some distinctive ways to obtain confidence about God is the development of a life of prayer, a life of praise and worship, and a life of wisdom. Even though we have a history or a past of being wounded and bewildered, we should love difficult or ungodly people in spite of wanting acceptance. Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man (Luke 2:52), we also will have wisdom and favor. However, God will grant us favor, and with the right connections, we will have favor with man. Rejection can be a camouflaged blessing. As an individual develops a relationship with our Creator and understands His purpose and plan for our lives, life is rewarding and fulfilling. It is easy to embrace laughter and easier to commune with God without frustration with ourselves and others.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has it all, travel, adventure, romance, comedy, drama, sex and speedway racing. It is a story about living our dream of traveling Australia and the world, at the same time pursuing our great sporting love, speedway. From our caravan travels through Northern New South Wales and Southern Queensland to the lush, green hills of the Emerald Isle, the historic ruins of Italy, the desert climes of Dubai, our visit to see our daughter in South Africa and to be there for the birth of our first grandchild. We had such an adventure. But, this was before the Global Financial Crisis and before the collapse of Townsville-based STORM Financial in whose hands we had trustfully placed our financial future. Little did we know what devastation lay ahead. Still, my story here, covers a much calmer time and will hopefully entice budding retirees to be a little adventurous when planning future travels. It was fun while it lasted.

Book excerpt: Is God to blame for natural disasters? Does He cause volcanic action, flooding, earthquakes, plague and genetic disease? Can He Prevent them? Why doesn’t He? Geoffrey E L Bennett uncovers deep Biblical insights linking them to twenty-first century cultural and scientific answers. Is God cruel or callous? Is He impotent or incompetent? How can I know if God even exists? Part one explores pain and shows how different cultural groups understand God to be vindictive and cruel, or else limited in power, or believe that suffering does not really exist. Part two examines Old Testament teaching on suffering, challenging the idea of ancient wisdom. Profound teaching is dissected from the minor and major prophets as well as the story of Job. Then the New Testament fulfillment of prophecy is examined, challenging perceived ideas, and finishes with an interpretation of the Apocalypse. The concluding solution to pain and suffering of God. Part three deals with scientific theories and twenty-first century concepts of the universe and the physical world, together with raw nature and biogenetic problems. What place does God have in our modern world? Do natural disasters “Acts of God” show a limited or incompetent Deity?

Download or read book The Adventures of Cancer Bitch written by S.L. Wisenberg and published by Tortoise Books. This book was released on 2024-10-15 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: S.L. Wisenberg, known for writing that is “seriously funny,” proves in this acerbic chronicle that a cancer diary can be at once hilarious, rageful, and feminist. She passes through the expected rites of breast cancer—diagnosis, surgery, and chemotherapy—but her responses are less expected: she throws a farewell party for her left breast, and rejects a “cranial prosthesis” in favor of using her bare scalp as a canvas for political messages. She insightfully criticizes the ad campaigns of cancer charities, the inept medical staff, and the inequities in the U.S. health care system she encounters as she navigates daily life with cancer and chemo. (There is much she disapproves of, from Brazilian waxes to books that blame patients for their own diseases.) Drawing on a wealth of personal, literary, and historical sources, The Adventures of Cancer Bitch creates an indelible image of a politically engaged, self-aware woman facing a daunting disease while examining her soul and society. (And riding the subway and teaching one-breasted.) It’s a thought-provoking memoir from a woman who questions everything and everyone, including herself. This revised and expanded second edition features new observations and reflections from the author.
Download or read book Mother Lode written by Gretchen Staebler and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2022-10-18 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “. . . makes you feel as though a kindred soul is speaking to you.” —Readers’ Favorite At the age of sixty, Gretchen Staebler promises to spend one year in her childhood home caring for her stubbornly independent ninety-six-year-old mother—sort of a middle-aged gap year. Then her mother will move to assisted living and she will return to her own independent life. It doesn’t go as planned. Rather than a retrospective, this mother-daughter story unfolds in real time with gripping honesty, bringing the reader along with the narrator through the struggle, doubts, and complexities of caregiving and daughterhood—and the beacons of light. Penetrating the fog of her mother’s advancing dementia and myriad health issues with humor, frustration, and compassion—and wine—Staebler slowly comes to accept and respect the mother she got, if not the one she wished for. In the process, she manifests non-negotiable self-care and learns more than she wants to know about aging, cognitive loss, and the healthcare system. Any reader who is looking for a road map in caring for a family member, has ever had a mother, or is looking aging in the eye will find company on the journey in this candid, multi-award-winning memoir.

A darkness and unexplainable strangeness had managed to sew its way into my very being that unfortunately had affected everyone I loved, in a way that I wouldnt wish upon my worst enemy. Each day, I fell deeper and deeper into a mysterious abyss of despair that I could not seem to escape; rather, I became captive within my own consciousness. This is my story, something that happened to me. Realizing that there are countless others who are at present encountering situations similar to my own experiences, it is my desire to shed some light from the knowledge I obtained along my journey to recovery, in hope of possibly guiding another lost soul to discover his or her way home. - JB Dums
