Download or read book The Impact of Publicity on Corporate Offenders written by Brent Fisse and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 1984-06-30 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Uncertainty surrounds the use of publicity as a means of controlling corporate crime. On the one hand, some agree with Justice Brandeis's dictum that light is "the best of disinfectants...the most efficient policeman." On the other hand, many believe that corporations' internal affairs are effectively shrouded with a thick fog that prevents the light of public scrutiny from reaching them. The Impact of Publicity on Corporate Offenders is the first study to go beyond the rhetoric, through an examination of corporate experience. Fisse and Braithwaite have carried out a qualitative inquiry concerning 17 large corporations involved in publicity crises. Based mainly on interviews, the inquiry includes company employees and former employees, union officials, officers of government regulatory agencies, competitors, independent accountants, government prosecutors, public interest activists, judicial officers, stockbrokers, and other experts.

Download or read book Embedded Autonomy written by Peter B. Evans and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2012-01-12 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, debate on the state's economic role has too often devolved into diatribes against intervention. Peter Evans questions such simplistic views, offering a new vision of why state involvement works in some cases and produces disasters in others. To illustrate, he looks at how state agencies, local entrepreneurs, and transnational corporations shaped the emergence of computer industries in Brazil, India, and Korea during the seventies and eighties. Evans starts with the idea that states vary in the way they are organized and tied to society. In some nations, like Zaire, the state is predatory, ruthlessly extracting and providing nothing of value in return. In others, like Korea, it is developmental, promoting industrial transformation. In still others, like Brazil and India, it is in between, sometimes helping, sometimes hindering. Evans's years of comparative research on the successes and failures of state involvement in the process of industrialization have here been crafted into a persuasive and entertaining work, which demonstrates that successful state action requires an understanding of its own limits, a realistic relationship to the global economy, and the combination of coherent internal organization and close links to society that Evans called "embedded autonomy."

Download or read book No Core written by Pamela Rosenkranz and published by Jrp Ringier. This book was released on 2012 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the past decade, Pamela Rosenkranz has sought to collapse the meaning of the artwork into the meaninglessness of pure materiality. In challenging these conditions of art, she activates a contemporary form of nihilism. From paintings produced from the foil of emergency blankets or Ralph Lauren-branded latex paint and soft drinks, to plastic water bottles filled with skin or urine-hued liquids, to a monitor featuring an approximation of and challenge to Yves Klein blue, Rosenkranz's artworks take aim at the empty centres of history, politics, and our contemporary culture as a whole. No Core is the first monograph on Rosenkranz's increasingly celebrated oeuvre and features an overview of the work that Rosenkranz developed in three recent institutional solo exhibitions in Geneva, New York, and Braunschweig, Germany.Published with the Centre d'art Contemporain Geneva, Swiss Institute Contemporary Art, New York and Kunstverein Braunschweig.
