Download or read book A Breeze of Inspiration Collection of Various Poems written by Viktoriia Peterson and published by Writers Republic LLC. This book was released on 2021-08-27 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These poems were written by Viktoriia Peterson over a period of more than 15 years. The author writes in Russian and Ukrainian, then translates her work into English. This book, A Breeze of Inspiration, is divided into five sections. The first consists of poems written on the subject of love. Many of these are dedicated to Viktoriia's husband, Austin Peterson, and reflect upon their courtship. The second section is about Viktoriia's father, Anatoly, who died in 2016. The poems reflect Viktoriia's memories of time with her father as well as nature and the love of fishing they shared. The work expresses deep emotion. For Viktoriia, the loss of her father was devastating, and it remains so to this day. Sometimes, suffering and longing for relatives who have departed for another world causes an emotional eruption that is hard to stop. Viktoriia expresses this on paper in the form of poetry. Anatoly will always live in Viktoriia's memory. Of the vast body of work she has produced on the subject of her father, 11 poems are published here. The third section is about the weather, the seasons of the year, and Wyoming and nature. These are perhaps Viktoriia's favorite topics to write about. She has written more poems in this genre than any other. The poems in the fourth section address the concept of God. Viktoriia believes deeply in God, and sometimes has prophetic dreams that later come true. One of these miraculous dreams, about God and the Archangel Michael, has been crafted into a poem. The fifth section involves a variety of topics: animals, Viktoriia's grandmother, her mother, and her friends

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Chicago Tribune Book of 2019, Notable Chicago Reads A Booklist Top 10 Arts Book of 2019 A No Depression Top Music Book of 2019 Curtis Mayfield. The Chi-Lites. Chaka Khan. Chicago’s place in the history of soul music is rock solid. But for Chicagoans, soul music in its heyday from the 1960s to the 1980s was more than just a series of hits: it was a marker and a source of black empowerment. In Move On Up, Aaron Cohen tells the remarkable story of the explosion of soul music in Chicago. Together, soul music and black-owned businesses thrived. Record producers and song-writers broadcast optimism for black America’s future through their sophisticated, jazz-inspired productions for the Dells and many others. Curtis Mayfield boldly sang of uplift with unmistakable grooves like “We’re a Winner” and “I Plan to Stay a Believer.” Musicians like Phil Cohran and the Pharaohs used their music to voice Afrocentric philosophies that challenged racism and segregation, while Maurice White of Earth, Wind, and Fire and Chaka Khan created music that inspired black consciousness. Soul music also accompanied the rise of African American advertisers and the campaign of Chicago’s first black mayor, Harold Washington, in 1983. This empowerment was set in stark relief by the social unrest roiling in Chicago and across the nation: as Chicago’s homegrown record labels produced rising stars singing songs of progress and freedom, Chicago’s black middle class faced limited economic opportunities and deep-seated segregation, all against a backdrop of nationwide deindustrialization. Drawing on more than one hundred interviews and a music critic’s passion for the unmistakable Chicago soul sound, Cohen shows us how soul music became the voice of inspiration and change for a city in turmoil.

Coming as an expatriate, but leaving as a local through humble explorations of the young nation-state, my grandfather truly fell in love with Singapore. Two generations later, I grow up between Russia and Singapore, living a parallel life to the one of my grandfather's. I write about my own experiences as the mirror image I am of him, despite the years apart. Deduka is a photo essay narrating a friendship between my grandfather and me as we oscillate between our two homes. Separated by forty years of urban development, yet connected by our artistic dispositions, we witness this life through art and poetry.

Download or read book For The Record written by Cameil Williams and published by . This book was released on 2021-08-31 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the Record, reveals the unimaginable betrayal I experienced, during a very vulnerable period in my life. These acts of betrayal were executed by people, who were once the closest people to me. I am sharing my deeply personal story, based on facts, as best I can recall them. Above all, I am reclaiming my right, to preserve my own legacy, identity, and the true essence of the woman I am, For the Record. I sincerely believe I was in spiritual warfare, during this deeply dark period in my life. It was only God's grace that brought me to victory. God guided me through grace and mercy, to live a life I deserve and to walk the path I started on. He showed me and everyone watching, that no man or woman, has the power to dictate anything over a responsible grown adult's life, no matter who they are. This book represents my truth, and I am now freely stating it. I pray that someday, God will rebuild these very important relationships, especially with my mom. I honored her and everyone knew it and my prayer is that she did too. I pray for restoration of our relationship, redefined. May God breathe life into it and bless it to be healthy, fruitful, and true. When God blesses me with these desires of my heart, and I trust that he will, I will have achieved my goal to turn my pain into purpose. Amen. Many are the plans in a man's heart but it is the Lord's purpose that prevails. Proverbs 19:21 "This said the Lord, the God of Israel," write down all the words which I have spoken to you, in a book." Jeremiah 30:2

Download or read book The Art of Sacrifice in Chess written by Rudolf Spielmann and published by SCB Distributors. This book was released on 2017-07-26 with total page 498 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 21st Century Edition of Spielmann’s Classic Work Austrian Grandmaster Rudolf Spielmann’s The Art of Sacrifice in Chess first appeared in the mid-1930s. It was immediately recognized as a classic, a masterpiece that examined the nature of chess sacrifices. In this modernized, 21st century edition, all of Spielmann’s original work has been preserved. The antiquated English Descriptive Notation has been replaced with modern Figurine Algebraic, and German grandmaster Karsten Müller has added his own notes to Spielmann’s original text. But the German grandmaster has gone far beyond simply inserting clarifying commentary. Müller has virtually doubled the size of the original work by adding eleven new chapters, including: The Greek Gift Sacrifice Bxh2/7+; Disaster on g7; The Achilles’ Heel f7; Strike at the Edge; Destroying the King’s Shelter; Sacrifices on f6; Sacrifices on e6; The Magic of Mikhail Tal; Shirov’s Sacrifices; and The Fine Art of Defense. There are exercises at the end of each new chapter to help you hone your skill of sacrificing. “Grandmaster Karsten Müller’s notes to the original text, along with the new material, brilliantly complements Spielmann’s classic work. A welcome addition to any chessplayer’s library...” – Garry Kasparov
Download or read book Masters of the Chessboard written by Richard Reti and published by SCB Distributors. This book was released on 2012-01-18 with total page 490 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Réti's "Other” Classic Ask most chessplayers about the works by Richard Réti, and most will quickly reply Modern Ideas in Chess. His Masters of the Chessboard will be a distant second and that is unfortunate, because in many ways Masters is more comprehensive and instructive than its better-known predecessor. He packs it with advice, even for beginners. Opening theory is a priority. Réti tells the student to understand "the basic idea” of each opening, and goes into considerable detail as he explains each of the popular lines of the day, including, of course, his own Réti Opening. Some of the finest parts of the book are the mini-essays, most of them on openings, but also on rook endgames. It's remarkable that Réti manages to do this without going into long variations. This practical approach is also evident when he deals with positional themes. For example, Masters can be appreciated as almost a primer on the subject of how to turn the two bishops into a significant advantage. As noted by American grandmaster Andy Soltis in his Foreword, this entire book is "wonderfully instructive.” And now it is available in a 21st-century edition, with figurine algebraic notation, with many diagrams and photos added.
