Book Centaurs of Kabecka Mahika

Download or read book Centaurs of Kabecka Mahika written by Khyati and published by Notion Press. This book was released on 2021-04-07 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cut off from the rest of the world, the island of Kabecka in the Indian Ocean is a haven to a veiled race of enigmatic and barbaric centaurs. Under the temper of an anticipated civil war between its two tribes, Bhama and Dhuni, every inhabitant is vigilant and wary. A disapproving Bhama is dealing with the impending change in rulership to the widely detested half-breed orphaned sisters, Mahika and Venya, notified to be the future Aahi and Danuwoa of the tribe by their waning king, Mihraan. Amidst the bedlam of their training with the Obaka, the towering formalities of the royal life, piling work at their home foundry, an ambush on Mahika’s engagement ceremony and a human intruder, the loathed sisters realize that they are not the only ones fostering ghastly secrets. The unforeseen poisoning of the Mataoka tree, whose enchantment protects them against humans, throws the sisters into a spiral of controversy and sabotage, as the duty of recovering the elements of the Svar falls unto them. From the apprehension of fighting the Pernicious Pixies, the trepidation of dealing with the Kabeckan Mers and the unfeasibility of bargaining with the unhinged Sorceress Hyma, while confronting their Irrikums, the centauresses tread a noxious path on a covert expedition to save the homeland founded by their great forefather, Raassa the Ruthless. From the author of the national bestselling Kalith series comes Centaurs of Kabecka : Mahika, the first book of the two-part Bhama Duology.

Reproduced here is the story of the two Ngatyi, Rainbow Serpents, who travelled from the Paroo to the Flinders Ranges and back as far as Yancannia Creek, where their deep underground channels linked them back to the Paroo. Jeremy Beckett recorded these stories from George Dutton and Alf Barlow in 1957. Luise Hercus, who has worked on the languages in the area for many years, has collaborated with Jeremy Beckett to analyse the names and identify the places.

Book excerpt: The first novel in the First Law Trilogy and debut fantasy novel from New York Times bestseller, Joe Abercrombie. Logen Ninefingers, infamous barbarian, has finally run out of luck. Caught in one feud too many, he's on the verge of becoming a dead barbarian -- leaving nothing behind him but bad songs, dead friends, and a lot of happy enemies. Nobleman, dashing officer, and paragon of selfishness, Captain Jezal dan Luthar has nothing more dangerous in mind than fleecing his friends at cards and dreaming of glory in the fencing circle. But war is brewing, and on the battlefields of the frozen North they fight by altogether bloodier rules. Inquisitor Glokta, cripple turned torturer, would like nothing better than to see Jezal come home in a box. But then Glokta hates everyone: cutting treason out of the Union one confession at a time leaves little room for friendship. His latest trail of corpses may lead him right to the rotten heart of government, if he can stay alive long enough to follow it. Enter the wizard, Bayaz. A bald old man with a terrible temper and a pathetic assistant, he could be the First of the Magi, he could be a spectacular fraud, but whatever he is, he's about to make the lives of Logen, Jezal, and Glokta a whole lot more difficult. Murderous conspiracies rise to the surface, old scores are ready to be settled, and the line between hero and villain is sharp enough to draw blood. Unpredictable, compelling, wickedly funny, and packed with unforgettable characters, The Blade Itself is noir fantasy with a real cutting edge.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Would you be able to escape a raging inferno, if your only way out was blocked by your deepest fears? Would you manage to survive on your own, or would you need someone’s help…anyone’s help… Should we fear those among us who perform seemingly impossible feats, or should we try and understand them instead? And in doing so, might we learn something that may enrich our own lives? Are changes in our relationships always brought about by arguments and force? Or may they sometimes come to pass effortlessly, through sheer good fortune? When you look in the mirror, how certain are you that the person looking back at you is truly…you? What if it isn’t…and what if they…don’t like you? Do unto others as you would have them do unto you…correct? How about: never do unto others, what you would never have them do unto you? This applies to everyone: you, me, and even the occasional serial killer. A bereft heart heals on its own. And with a little comfort and honesty, it may find love again…even where there was none to begin with. With tales of supernatural occurrences, fantasy, crime, love and personal growth, Dreamtamer and Other Short Stories explores multiple genres through a collection of six works of fiction. There’s a little something for everyone, and a lot for lovers of a good tale.

Download or read book Diet and Drug Interactions written by Daphne A. Roe and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When we learn from a patient, clinician, or medical record that a drug has been discontinued, it is logical to ask why. The drug may no longer be needed; it may not have produced the desired effect; it may have produced an adverse reaction; a better drug may be available to replace the original drug. The patient may have discontinued the drug because he or she could not see why it was necessary; or the patient may have discontinued the drug because of unpleasant side effects. A drug may not work because its absorption is reduced by physical or chemical interaction with another drug or a food component. It may also not work because the patient's metabolism is speeded up or in hibited to an extent such that the desired duration of drug action is not obtained. Such an effect may be related to a change in diet. Side effects may be related to consumption of specific foods or bev erages or to an overall change in nutritional status. Drug-food and drug-alcohol incompatibility reactions are frequent but are avoidable if a patient is warned of their possible occurrence. Drugs may also produce nutritional deficiencies, especially in a patient whose diet is marginal in those nutrients depleted by the particular drug. Careful prescribing practices together with appropriate nutrient supplements will serve to reduce the risk of these incompatibilities.
