Download or read book Kaleidoscope my life s multiple reflections written by Marcela Del Sol and published by Australian Self Publishing Group. This book was released on 2016-01-01 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kaleidoscope is Marcela’s Del Sol’s first work of fiction; a collection of beautifully written reflections about the life and struggles of a woman co-existing with Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome (PTSD) and Dissociative Identity Syndrome (DID). Marcela Del Sol is an Australian writer, philanthropist and social activist. She moved to Australia from her home country, Chile, as a young adult, and, a few years ago, began to share her physical existence with multiple alters of her character, following a serious car accident. As the incapacitating symptoms of her disorder started to appear in Marcela’s daily life, she not only learned how to adapt to living as multiple alters in the same body, but also found the courage to thrive under challenging circumstances. In Kaleidoscope, Marcela shares her own personal coping mechanisms and strategies through the voice of her fictional character, Lucia. Join Lucia and her captivating alters on an extraordinary journey into the mind and heart of a woman who lives with Dissociative Identity Syndrome. The deeply compelling chapters, narrated by the various alters of the author and her main fictional antagonist, reveal much about the strength of the human spirit, and its ability to find a way back from the darkest of places, where everything seems lost.

Book excerpt: Curriculum Windows: What Curriculum Theorists of the 1970s Can Teach Us about Schools and Society Today is an effort by students of curriculum studies, along with their professor, to interpret and understand curriculum texts and theorists of the 1970s in contemporary terms. The authors explore how key books/authors from the curriculum field of the 1970s illuminate new possibilities forward for us as scholar educators today: How might the theories, practices, and ideas wrapped up in curriculum texts of the 1970s still resonate with us, allow us to see backward in time and forward in time – all at the same time? How might these figurative windows of insight, thought, ideas, fantasy, and fancy make us think differently about curriculum, teaching, learning, students, education, leadership, and schools? Further, how might they help us see more clearly, even perhaps put us on a path to correct the mistakes and missteps of intervening decades and of today? The chapter authors and editor revisit and interpret several of the most important works of the 1970s by Norman Overly, Michael Apple, Eliot Eisner, John Goodlad, Louise Berman, William Reid, Bill Pinar, Daniel Tanner, Laurel Tanner, Maxine Greene, James MacDonald, and Joseph Schwab. The book's Foreword is by renowned curriculum theorist William H. Schubert.

Book Colonial Legacies in Chicana o Literature and Culture

Download or read book Colonial Legacies in Chicana o Literature and Culture written by Vanessa Fonseca-Chávez and published by University of Arizona Press. This book was released on 2020-10-06 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Colonial Legacies in Chicana/o Literature and Culture exposes the ways in which colonialism is expressed in the literary and cultural production of the U.S. Southwest, a region that has experienced at least two distinct colonial periods since the sixteenth century. Vanessa Fonseca-Chávez traces how Spanish colonial texts reflect the motivation for colonial domination. She argues that layers of U.S. colonialism complicate how Chicana/o literary scholars think about Chicana/o literary and cultural production. She brings into view the experiences of Chicana/o communities that have long-standing ties to the U.S. Southwest but whose cultural heritage is tied through colonialism to multiple nations, including Spain, Mexico, and the United States. While the legacies of Chicana/o literature simultaneously uphold and challenge colonial constructs, the metaphor of the kaleidoscope makes visible the rupturing of these colonial fragments via political and social urgencies. This book challenges readers to consider the possibilities of shifting our perspectives to reflect on stories told and untold and to advocate for the inclusion of fragmented and peripheral pieces within the kaleidoscope for more complex understandings of individual and collective subjectivities. This book is intended for readers interested in how colonial legacies are performed in the U.S. Southwest, particularly in the context of New Mexico, Texas, and Arizona. Readers will relate to the book’s personal narrative thread that provides a path to understanding fragmented identities.
