Book ADDRESSING GLOBAL ISSUES WITH COLLECTIVE AND CONCERTED ACTIONS Indonesian Scholar Perspectives for the G20 Forum

Download or read book ADDRESSING GLOBAL ISSUES WITH COLLECTIVE AND CONCERTED ACTIONS Indonesian Scholar Perspectives for the G20 Forum written by Wahyudi Kumorotomo and published by UGM PRESS. This book was released on 2023-01-12 with total page 451 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a compilation of research and scholarly articles under the auspices of Dewan Guru Besot (Board of Professors) of U niversitas Gadjah Mada, this volume is expected to contribute for the Sherpa Track of G20 forum. We believe that multi-disciplinary approach among university scholars would provide a comprehensive understanding on what to be considered by the G20 country leaders who are scheduled to meet in Bali, Indonesia, in 2022. Parallel to the three prioritized agendas for G20, critical reviews on health system after the Covid-19 global pandemic, changing activities and lifestyle under digitalized economy, and transition towards sustainable energy are presented. Cases are mostly taken from the Indonesian experience. We would argue that interdependency and partnership among countries are inevitable and that we must understand and acknowledge it more than ever. All the critical global issues—health, poverty, climate change—can only be addressed with collective actions of all individuals in developed as well as developing countries. The collective awareness of the new world order for healthy, smart, and green lifestyle is essential to the future living in the planet. The G20 forum is crucial as it represents 65 percent of the world population and 80 percent of the world economy. We hope that G20 leaders have a full commitment and capacity to conduct an orchestra of global community which enable and empower citizens while acknowledging cultural diversity in their respected countries. It is a high time for all of collective and concerted actions.

Book Renewable Energy Tariffs and Incentives in Indonesia

Download or read book Renewable Energy Tariffs and Incentives in Indonesia written by Asian Development Bank and published by Asian Development Bank. This book was released on 2020-09-01 with total page 141 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report proposes a renewable energy subsidy mechanism for Indonesia to close the gap between the costs of renewable and conventional power generation. It takes into account the additional economic benefits of renewable power and considers how the government can support its rapid deployment in the power sector. The report emphasizes the need for Indonesia to adopt international best practice for planning, procurement, contracting, and risk mitigation to reduce the financial costs of renewable energy development. To achieve this, implementation of the subsidy should be part of a broader inter-ministerial electricity policy reform program.

Book Proceedings of the 5th Open Society Conference OSC 2023

Download or read book Proceedings of the 5th Open Society Conference OSC 2023 written by Daryono and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-11-08 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is an open access book. Technology is changing everything. As digitization, advanced analytics, and artificial intelligence (AI) sweep across industries and geographies, they aren’t just reshaping the competitive landscape; they’re redefining the organizational imperative: adapt or die. Wait and see is not an option; it’s a death sentence. Today the world is changing rapidly. This has created a sense of urgency to embrace this change for the sustainability of both individual and corporate existence. The name of this future world on the brink of change and transformation is VUCA (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, and Ambiguity). Current phenomena include the rise of artificial intelligence, which can impact education and workforces, fast-paced businesses, and other advances that create VUCA. Understanding the VUCA world, adapting to it, and focusing on the opportunities rather than the challenges it brings are the basis of sustainability. To increase or maintain the level of development of the countries, and increasing technological advancement, the world is concurrently facing political instability, deteriorating environmental conditions, poverty, and an imbalance in the distribution of wealth. Although the VUCA era seems to lead to a pessimistic situation, giving up is not wise. The world will continue to move, but humans will always be able to adjust. The key lies in the individual’s willingness to keep learning and trying. In this case, three things that need to be built are goals, processes, and support. The goal or goal itself is an orientation that needs to be the basis for action. This issue becomes fascinating to discuss from various perspectives and see how we could utilize & empower technology to mitigate the risks. To empower the use of technology from Humanities, Business & Political Perspectives in the VUCA Era, the Faculty of Law, Social and Political Sciences (FHISIP) of the Universitas Terbuka took the initiative to organize an international seminar with the theme “Empowering Technology: Humanities, Business & Political Perspectives in VUCA Era”

Book World Energy Outlook 2017

Download or read book World Energy Outlook 2017 written by Agence internationale de l'énergie and published by . This book was released on 2018-01-19 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The global energy scene is in a state of flux. Large-scale shifts include: the rapid deployment and steep declines in the costs of major renewable energy technologies; the growing importance of electricity in energy use across the globe; profound changes in China's economy and energy policy, moving consumption away from coal; and the continued surge in shale gas and tight oil production in the United States. These changes provide the backdrop for the World Energy Outlook-2017, which includes a full update of energy demand and supply projections to 2040 based on different scenarios. The projections are accompanied by detailed analyses of their impact on energy industries and investment, as well as implications for energy security and the environment. The report this year includes a focus on China, which examines how China's choices could reshape the global outlook for all fuels and technologies. A second focus, on natural gas, explores how the rise of shale gas and LNG are changing the global gas market as well as the opportunities and risks for gas in the transition to a cleaner energy system. Finally, the WEO-2017 introduces a major new scenario - the Sustainable Development Scenario - that outlines an integrated approach to achieving internationally agreed objectives on climate change, air quality and universal access to modern energy.

Download or read book Fuel Taxes and the Poor written by Thomas Sterner and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2012-03-29 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fuel Taxes and the Poor challenges the conventional wisdom that gasoline taxation, an important and much-debated instrument of climate policy, has a disproportionately detrimental effect on poor people. Increased fuel taxes carry the potential to mitigate carbon emissions, reduce congestion, and improve local urban environment. As such, higher gasoline taxes could prove to be a fundamental part of any climate action plan. However, they have been resisted by powerful lobbies that have persuaded people that increased fuel taxation would be regressive. Reporting on examples of over two dozen countries, this book sets out to empirically investigate this claim. The authors conclude that while there may be some slight regressivity in some high-income countries, as a general rule, fuel taxation is a progressive policy particularly in low income countries. Rich countries can correct for regressivity by cutting back on other taxes that adversely affect poor people, or by spending more money on services for the poor. Meanwhile, in low-income countries, poor people spend a very small share of their money on fuel for transport. Some costs from fuel taxes may be passed on to poor people through more expensive public transportation and food transport. Nevertheless, in general the authors find that gasoline taxes become more progressive as the income of the country in question decreases. This book provides strong arguments for the proponents of environmental taxation. It has immediate policy implications at the intersection of multiple subject areas, including transportation, environmental regulation, development studies, and climate change. Published with Environment for Development initiative.
