Book Kaikaku at its worst

Download or read book Kaikaku at its worst written by Robert F. Carter and published by tredition. This book was released on 2022-05-05 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book reveals in no uncertain terms how a sea of radical changes (kaikaku) initiated by a reckless CEO, untrammelled by a gross negligent advisory board and executed by an utterly incompetent management team can make a company hit the skids with lightning speed. More than 30 real-life examples spell out the sheer magnitude of harm bad managers can cause and how disaster can be prevented with a bit of humility and a dash of common sense. - There is little hope the people in charge of ChOps Ltd. overcome the Mandela effect when reading this book. But if they do it will be a comeuppance they utterly deserve.

Book excerpt: Synopsis: To change, you have to leave your comfort zone. This is a very uncomfortable thought and an even more uncomfortable road to travel. Both the thought and the journey can cause long-lasting pain if procrastination takes the place of immediate action. Kaikaku (Japanese for 'radical change') is like slapping the face of someone who has fainted: they may have lost consciousness, but the sudden forceful impact can bring them back from a horrendous nightmare. In this book, the author describes how kaikaku is best applied to businesses, how crises can be prevented, and what to do if you have just dealt with a crisis and do not want to get into a new one anytime soon. True stories are used to illustrate the main topics of kaikaku and give an insight into proven problem-solving methods. Some of them might not be entirely legal in all countries, but a slap on the wrist and a 'don't do it again' might be all you get if you're caught out. Lean management is all about avoiding waste, so this book is concise and to the point – it avoids verbal diarrhoea so that the reader does not have to sift through the rubbish to get to the good stuff.

Book Rethinking Globalism

Download or read book Rethinking Globalism written by Manfred B. Steger and published by Rowman & Littlefield Publishers. This book was released on 2004-10-26 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is the hottest American export since 9/11? The contributors to this provocative volume contend that it is Western style globalism—the dominant free market ideology that determines everything from most favored nation status to the declaration of war. In this much-needed post September 11th analysis, an interdisciplinary author team shows how central concepts like globalization, liberty, free markets, and free trade are increasingly being subordinated to and lumped together with the war on terrorism led by the U.S. and its allies.

Book Mercantilism in a Japanese Domain

Download or read book Mercantilism in a Japanese Domain written by Luke S. Roberts and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2002-05-02 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the historical roots of economic nationalism within Japan. By examining how mercantilist thought developed in the eighteenth-century domain of Toas, Luke Roberts shows how economic ideas were generated at the regional level. During the Edo period (1600-1867), Japan was divided into over 230 competitive states, many of which wished to reduce the dominance of the shogun's economy. The seventeenth-century Japanese economy was based on samurai notions of service - especially the duty performed by the dominal lord to the shogun - and the rhetoric of political economy that centred on the lord and the samurai class. This 'economy of service,' however, led to crises in deforestation and land degradation, government fiscal insolvency and increasingly corrupt tax levies, and finally a loss of faith in government.

Book Juries in the Japanese Legal System

Download or read book Juries in the Japanese Legal System written by Dimitri Vanoverbeke and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-04-10 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Trial by jury is not a fundamental part of the Japanese legal system, but there has been a recent important move towards this with the introduction in 2009 of the lay assessor system whereby lay people sit with judges in criminal trials. This book considers the debates in Japan which surround this development. It examines the political and socio-legal contexts, contrasting the view that the participation of ordinary citizens in criminal trials is an important manifestation of democracy, with the view that Japan as a society where authority is highly venerated is not natural territory for a system where lay people are likely to express views at odds with expert judges. It discusses Japan’s earlier experiments with jury trials in the late 19th Century, the period 1923-43, and up to 1970 in US-controlled Okinawa, compares developing views in Japan on this issue with views in other countries, where dissatisfaction with the jury system is often evident, and concludes by assessing how the new system in Japan is working out and how it is likely to develop.

Book Japan s Great Stagnation and Abenomics

Download or read book Japan s Great Stagnation and Abenomics written by Masazumi Wakatabe and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-04-23 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the global Great Recession continues, policymakers, economists, and the public are turning to Japenses economic revitalization for answers. Paul Krugman, Nobel laureate in Economics, once said that Japan was a "full-dress rehearsal for the current crisis." Japan has experienced and valiantly overcome the burst of their Bubble economy, financial crisis, lukewarm recovery, and more than a decade-long deflation and stagnation to become one of the most stable economies today. Japan's Great Stagnation and Abenomics reveals the striking similarities of economic events and policies between the Great Stagnation and the current Great Recession. It also suggests possible dangers ahead and way-outs in the future. This exciting new volume is based on Wakatabe's expertise in economic history and the history of economic ideas and argues that any policy decision is related to cultural ideology. An investigation into the relationship between cultural ideology and policy helps us better understand the policy-making process.

This transformation is possible because the same overarching principles that apply in other industries work equally well in software development. The software industry follows the same industrial concepts of production as those applied in manufacturing; however, the software industry perceives itself as being fundamentally different and has largely ignored what other industries have gained through the application of lean techniques.

Book Challenges in Language Testing Around the World

Download or read book Challenges in Language Testing Around the World written by Betty Lanteigne and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-02-17 with total page 553 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book combines insights from language assessment literacy and critical language testing through critical analyses and research about challenges in language assessment around the world. It investigates problematic practices in language testing which are relevant to language test users such as language program directors, testing centers, and language teachers, as well as teachers-in-training in Graduate Diploma and Master of Arts in Applied Linguistics programs. Chapters in this volume discuss insights about language testing policy, testing world languages, developing program-level language tests and tests of specific language skills, and language assessment literacy. In addition, this book identifies two needs in language testing for further examination: the need for collaboration between language test developers, language test users, and language users, and the need to base language tests on real-world language use.

Book excerpt: "Aftermath: Fukushima and the 3.11 Earthquake" is a comprehensive analysis of recovery and reconstruction following the triple disaster in Japan on March 11, 2011. This collection addresses the question of why, despite the relative success of network governance in brokering a response to the disaster and to reconstruction, politics failed either to prepare for the disaster or to respond adequately to it. In examining Japan's political system leading up to 3/11, Aftermath looks at the system of network governance that operated between various organizations and levels of government. The book scrutinizes the political influence network that united politicians and the bureaucracy with the major corporations and created a system to promote nuclear power. Through political, policy, economic and social analysis, Aftermath aims to contribute to the development of mechanisms and structures to minimize the impact of disasters. Book The History Problem

  • Author : Hiro Saito

Download or read book The History Problem written by Hiro Saito and published by University of Hawaii Press. This book was released on 2017-04-01 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seventy years have passed since the end of the Asia-Pacific War, yet Japan remains embroiled in controversy with its neighbors over the war’s commemoration. Among the many points of contention between Japan, China, and South Korea are interpretations of the Tokyo War Crimes Trial, apologies and compensation for foreign victims of Japanese aggression, prime ministerial visits to the Yasukuni Shrine, and the war’s portrayal in textbooks. Collectively, these controversies have come to be called the “history problem.” But why has the problem become so intractable? Can it ever be resolved, and if so, how? To answer these questions author Hiro Saito mobilizes the sociology of collective memory and social movements, political theories of apology and reconciliation, psychological research on intergroup conflict, and philosophical reflections on memory and history. The history problem, he argues, is essentially a relational phenomenon caused when nations publicly showcase self-serving versions of the past at key ceremonies and events: Japan, South Korea, and China all focus on what happened to their own citizens with little regard for foreign others. Saito goes on to explore the emergence of a cosmopolitan form of commemoration taking humanity, rather than nationality, as its primary frame of reference, an approach increasingly used by a transnational network of advocacy NGOs, victims of Japan’s past wrongdoings, historians, and educators. When cosmopolitan commemoration is practiced as a collective endeavor by both perpetrators and victims, Saito argues, a resolution of the history problem—and eventual reconciliation—will finally become possible. The History Problem examines a vast corpus of historical material in both English and Japanese, offering provocative findings that challenge orthodox explanations. Written in clear and accessible prose, this uniquely interdisciplinary book will appeal to sociologists, political scientists, and historians researching collective memory, nationalism and cosmopolitanism, and international relations—and to anyone interested in the commemoration of historical wrongs.
