Book excerpt: David Bouchier brings humor and insight to the quirks and puzzles of everyday life, from buying vitamin pills to reading poetry on the subways. These entertaining commentaries were first broadcast on public radio stations in Long Island and Connecticut, where Bouchier's quirky and clever humor has made him the most popular public radio personality in the region. Every week for the past twelve years Bouchier has plucked a topic from the chaos of ordinary life and subjected it to his special brand of ironic scrutiny. Nothing is too small or too vast to attract his attention: stuffed bears, NASCAR racing, reincarnation, the federal tax system, and shopping in Florida all find a place in this spirited and funny collection of astute observations and whimsical opinions. A Few Well Chosen Words is the third collection of Bouchier's public radio commentaries on his life as an immigrant in America. Readers will relish his fresh approach to subjects like time and memory, the rituals that carry us through the year, our obsession with health and fitness, the horrors of travel, and the many annoyances of modern life.

Book The New Chosen People Revised and Expanded Edition

Download or read book The New Chosen People Revised and Expanded Edition written by William W. Klein and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2015-11-25 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Controversy rages on about God's choosing people for salvation. Are only the few elect? Rather than typically beginning with the preconceptions of systematic theologies, Dr. William Klein takes up this question by searching for a biblical theology of election. He surveys the OT contexts of God's choosing individuals--prophets, priests, kings--to serve divine purposes, and considers God's election of the nation of Israel as his special people. This OT study proposes that God's election is both individual and corporate, but not always determinative. Individuals entered the people of God by birth, but not all the people found salvation. Faith in Yahweh was required. This book traces these elective understandings through the intertestamental literature, identifying continuities and shifts. The bulk of the study, and the heart of the argument, focus on the New Testament. Klein identifies concepts of election, and relationships between writers in the gospels, the Lucan material, Paul's writings, and the rest. The new covenant, God choosing the church in Christ, emphasizes election as corporate, while the individual election of Jesus' disciples and of Paul raises the question whether such chosenness is necessarily salvific. In closing, Klein discusses the most engaging and divisive questions around God's election, and offers a real challenge to today's church.

Book Election is just not Fair

Download or read book Election is just not Fair written by Moreno Dal Bello and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2015-08-12 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For many people, the doctrine of election is one that just does not make sense, for it appears to contradict the teachings that God is Love and no respecter of persons. It is even seen as a doctrine which shuts many people out of heaven who desired entry. Thus, it is concluded that the doctrine of election is just not fair; that God would be unjust to select only some people to show His grace and mercy towards, in granting the gift of salvation, and simply leave the rest to themselves, or worse still, consign them to hell. The real reason behind such a conclusion is the flawed foundation upon which these notions are based-a foundation which says that man is not dead in sin as a result of the Fall but is merely a wounded soul, with the ability and desire to seek and choose God, intact. The concept of 'free will' stands in eternal opposition to the doctrine of free grace.

Download or read book LEGACY To The Chosen written by Ian Brisport and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2012-05-07 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The process of writing this book originated in a series of philosophical articles intended to be a legacy I would leave to the world. The work was quickly put together and completed in the late 1990s. In the ensuing years, I have reread it from time to time and it remains relevant. The information herein is the summation of insight that can serve to inspire pursuit of our greater human potential. There is a need for humanity to unfurl its intellectual endeavors from the prison of objective instrumentation. No real truth can be discovered when subjective being use subjective instruments under subjective conditions. It is time to explore the boundaries of the mind and thought, guided by the scientific approach. I propose a new way of understanding life, the universe and reality itself. This, I bequeath you.
