Download or read book Junior High School Speller Classic Reprint written by Richard L. Sandwick and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-15 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Junior High School Speller You cannot afford to neglect spelling. Poor spelling is a stumbling block to success. It is a badge of inferiority. Good spelling is a recommendation. It is taken as a sign of ability. In these days of universal education the man or woman who has never taken pains to learn to spell correctly is apt to be regarded with contempt. Some business firms give a test in spelling to all applicants for a clerical position. Those who make a good grade in this test are given the preference in employment. Book Practical High School Speller Classic Reprint

Download or read book Practical High School Speller Classic Reprint written by Tobias O. Chew and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-04 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Practical High School Speller What are the words most commonly misspelled by the average high school pupil? In an endeavor to solve this problem, two thousand letters, with five postal cards in each, were sent to representative high schools in every state in the United States, requesting the heads of the various departments to report the words most commonly misspelled in their classes. From the many thousand replies, this text-book has been compiled. The first word in Lesson I was sent in by seven hundred high school teachers; the other words in this lesson show, by their order, the frequency with which they appear in the replies. No word has been considered unless suggested by at least two teachers. This book, then, built on the judgment of those best qualified to know - the teachers themselves - contains only the words most frequently misspelled by the average high school pupil. A simple phrase is placed after each word, illustrating its use, and serving to identify it better than would a short, abstract definition. The division of words into syllables with accent marks will be of great assistance to the pupil, should there be any question in his mind as to the correct pronunciation. The typography is based on the idea that it will be a great help to the pupil in visualizing the words if he sees them in script as well as in print. This book was released on 2018-03-22 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Graded School Speller, Vol. 2 Q graded both in respect to the words and the thought, and is pre sented in a way to interest and instruct. The pupil is conscious of the meaning and the use Of the word as he learns to spell it. If the context does not make the meaning of a word clear to a pupil, it does enable him to use his dictionary intelligently in getting the meaning Of the word. By means of this method of presentation words are reviewed, many Of the more difficult ones repeatedly. This review is not a mere mechanical repetition of the isolated word; each time the word recurs it is in use. This is the most effective kind of review. At the same time the meaning of the word is becoming, for the child, broader, fuller, and more clearly defined. This book was released on 2018-03-22 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Common School Speller, Vol. 1 It contains the staple vocabulary of the common school text-books - words for which the pupil has constant use - and in addition, many every-day words which are frequently misspelled and mis pronounced. The arrangement exhausts the sign-and-sound analogies of common words. Richard Grant White claims, and properly, that it is only on the basis of such analogies that the child can determine for itself the value of new word forms.
