Book Reimagining Narrative Therapy Through Practice Stories and Autoethnography

Download or read book Reimagining Narrative Therapy Through Practice Stories and Autoethnography written by Travis Heath and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-06-19 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reimagining Narrative Therapy Through Practice Stories and Autoethnography takes a new pedagogical approach to teaching and learning in contemporary narrative therapy, based in autoethnography and storytelling. The individual client stories aim to paint each therapeutic meeting in such detail that the reader will come to feel as though they actually know the two or more people in the room. This approach moves beyond the standard narrative practice of teaching by transcripts and steps into teaching narrative therapy through autoethnography. The intention of these 'teaching tales' is to offer the reader an opportunity to enter into the very 'heart and soul' of narrative therapy practice, much like reading a novel has you enter into the lives of the characters that inhabit it. This work has been used by the authors in MA and PhD level classrooms, workshops, week-long intensive courses, and conferences around the world, where it has received commendations from both newcomer and veteran narrative therapists. The aim of this book is to introduce narrative therapy and the value of integrating autoethnographic methods to students and new clinicians. It can also serve as a useful tool for advanced teachers of narrative practices. In addition, it will appeal to established clinicians who are curious about narrative therapy (who may be looking to add it to their practice), as well as students and scholars of autoethnography and qualitative inquiry and methods.

A few months later, his mentor and friend (the doctor that talked him into doing the partial birth abortion) has a heart attack and won't go into surgery until David agrees to take his patient the next day. Against the advice of his good friend, Kyle-an anesthesiologist-David promises to help the woman. When he finds out that it is a late-term abortion, a plan hatches. They fake the abortion and actually deliver the baby alive and, with the help of an old rebel pastor, smuggle her to an adoption agency. Feeling that saving this baby, and more, is the right thing to do, they perform more fake abortions. Soon they are joined by others who love the Lord as well as unborn children. In spite of the danger of losing their medical licenses or going to jail, over the next two years, the "team" rescues over eighty babies from women with a broad variety of stories. They hope to be put out of business by the federal government outlawing late-term abortions rather than by getting caught.

Book excerpt: I found God. I know, I'd said it once before, to get out of trouble, but this time it's true. I was drawn to a church, and this one hymn, about saving a wretch like me, touched me. So did the reverend, speaking about love, redemption, mercy and grace. It was nothing like the church my mother dragged me to as a kid, trying to keep me from the family life of petty crime. Next thing I knew, tears were rolling down my face as I felt...healed. But does my stiff-necked parole officer believe me? No! How can I convince Brandon Fairchild that this conversion—and the feelings I'm having for this good-looking man—aren't just a con game?

Book Tales From The Strip

Download or read book Tales From The Strip written by Andy Espinoza Long and published by Andrew Espinoza Long. This book was released on 2019-05-30 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My name is Andy, and I'm a male stripper. Throughout the years, I guesstimate to have performed at well over six hundred shows. That includes male revues, bachelorette parties, stripograms, private one on ones, office visits, just about any event that your mind can dream up. Some of these tales are insane; some are even unbelievable at times. While writing this memoir, more than once, I'd sit back and take a break, wondering, "Did that fucking happen?" When I embarked upon the task of writing out all these adventures, it was difficult for me to rack through my brain and recall details that I believed, at one point, would never erase from my memory. While it does sound tempting to add a little sugar and spice to an already juicy tale, I’m old school in the sense that, to me, nothing tastes better than the real thing. For my selfish reasons alone, I needed to compose these stories as accurately as possible, as the ‘wow’ factor never trumps authenticity in my book.Without further ado, sit back, pour yourself a hot cup of joe, and enjoy the show. These, my dear friends, are my Tales From The Strip…
