Book Journey of a Liver Transplant Recipient

Download or read book Journey of a Liver Transplant Recipient written by Christine Jowett and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2015-07-23 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is a reality that someone in Canada dies every three days waiting for an organ transplant; for some patients, they are lying in their hospital beds, waiting to be given a second chance at life. Some are fortunate to receive that organ or gift of life, yet for many, they don't survive because the organ they require is either not available or doesn't get there in time. Christine Jowett was only thirteen years old when she became jaundiced, fatigued, and endured bouts of right abdominal pain. Having lived with autoimmune hepatitis for twenty-six years, Christine's disease finally took its toll on her and she ended up in St. Mary's Hospital, where she works as a cardiology nurse. In order to save her life, she was then sent to Toronto General Hospital to wait for a liver transplant, yet, her situation continued to deteriorate as her kidneys were shutting down. Now at forty-one years old, a mother and a wife, it still remains a mystery as to why Christine developed chronic autoimmune hepatitis, a disease that for so long through her life she was able to manage with few medications. Life Goes On is a moving story of her life, which tells of her sickness, facing up to the possibility of losing her family, and the struggle to regain the normality of life after her operation. After the tragic death of an anonymous hero, Christine is given the ultimate gift of life, a healthy organ, on one very special day.

Book Fatima S Journey

Download or read book Fatima S Journey written by Fatima Baig and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2017-07-14 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book details Fatimas journey as a two-time liver transplant recipient. The book is also about how her health struggles affected her personally and how the youth who have grown up with chronic illnesses can have normal yet special lives and how their families cope and become their strength. She also writes about how families from very different ethnic backgrounds come close together and form a strong bond in the pain of their children and their common challenges. She discussed the medical mistakes, which become life-changing for so many, and how there should be more acknowledgment of them rather than putting a lid on them. Finally, Fatima talks about how she came to spread awareness about organ donation; shares her story through social media, media, and public speaking; and how she came to be a part of a community of transplant patients, donor families, and those with chronic illness who united together through diversity and helped each other during their struggles. This book details how her life changed after her second liver transplant and the medical mistakes that Fatima endured.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This story is based on Aryan Beharry, who at nine months of age had to undergo a liver transplant due to biliary artesia, a condition caused by the narrowing and restriction of the bile ducts which are necessary to drain bile from the liver, preventing toxifciation. The story covers his birth and parental care with the daunting circumstances during his early years leading up to the present. It also goes into the actual interactions with his physicians from the time of the liver transplant through stages of triumphs, problems and accomplishments. The documented steps are also meant as an inspiration to other parents or adults in similar situations and it shows the possible scenarios that could be followed to deal with such a circumstance. Last but certainly noteworthy, it gives an idea of the type of sacrifices that one must endure to overcome adversities with a life-threatening medical problem.

We hoped he would live long enough to get added to the organ transplant list. A donor liver would be lifesaving. He wouldn't survive long without one. Book excerpt: "Greg: A Liver Transplant Recipient" is an intimate look into the life of my family and myself. It covers the struggles of a child who was burdened with medical difficulties following birth. The Gaines family has been on both sides of organ transplantation, dealing with their first child needing a transplant and then choosing to donate the organs of their second, now deceased, child. Knowing that every family, just like every human-being, is imperfect, we have all managed to not only stick together but to stay happy. Regardless of how many times we have smiled, there were times when I thought that my life was never going to get any better. I'm sure that my parents have felt the same way many times over again but before I could live up to my nickname, they were my Rock. We have cried many tears and I have struggled for many years but God was always right there beside us. Every time I started feeling sorry for myself, somebody would say a prayer and things would always start to look up from that point on. Becoming a writer was the best thing that could've ever happened to me. I feel that it is my responsibility to inform others, who are currently facing health problems, that they are not alone. Everybody had some type of struggle in their lives and everybody can find strength and perseverance in God's name and knowing that somebody else is going through some of the same things that you're going through. I've gone from what it seems to feel like Heaven to Hell and back again from some of my own actions and reactions but one thing is always clear: God has been watching..

Book LIVEr

Download or read book LIVEr written by John Hoffman and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Born with the rare liver disease biliary atresia, my only hope for survival was the untimely death of another young child, and the success of a very experimental surgery. With the outcome never certain, my parents remained steadfast in the belief that I would get through this and live a long and healthy life. That belief and support carried me through my adolescence, where I was determined not to let my medical history define me. After receiving my second transplant, and third chance at life, I was bound and determined to make it mean something. I struggled with this theme throughout the rest of my high school and brief college career. While medically, I was a resounding success story, emotionally, I was in turmoil. Depression marked a large portion of my late teens and early twenties, as I began to attempt to make my way as an adult. One thought continued to gnaw at me, “Two people have lost their lives to get me to this point, and what do I have to show for it?” It wasn’t until years later that I would find my direction - I needed to share what I’ve been through. While my past shouldn’t define me, it helped to mold who I am, and perhaps I can help others going down this same path. The result of my epiphany is this book. I wrote it not only for myself, but for those like me, who have been honored to be organ recipients. This is my story"--Back cover.
