  • Publisher :
  • Release : 1997
  • ISBN : 9780853694038
  • Pages : 692 pages

Download or read book Tuberculosis written by A. Louise Sugden and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 692 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tuberculosis is a disease which once was spoken of in fearful whispers, but with improvements in standards of public health and hygiene this dreadful disease seemed largely to have disappeared from the consciousness of the developed world. However, in 1993, the World Health Organization declared tuberculosis a global health emergency, pointing out that there are now more cases of tuberculosis in the world than at any time in history and that 30 million will die of the disease in the next ten years. The resurgence of the diesease is by no means confined to the Third World, with its more problematic public health problems of dense populations in cities and in the refugee camps; indeed most of the new cases of tuberculosis are now in the developed countries as described in the overall surveys in this volume. The new problems may arise from a variety of modern facts such as the spread of AIDS, poorer social conditions, immigration from areas where the disease is already widespread, or increased overseas travel. In addition there is the prevalence of new forms of resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis. This symposium volume presents expert views on these problems and describes the approaches being undertaken by health professionals working with patients as well as the efforts being made in industrial and academic laboratories to develop new understanding of the biological processes and hence new approaches to successful therapy.

Book Understanding Pharmacology for Pharmacy Technicians

Download or read book Understanding Pharmacology for Pharmacy Technicians written by Mary Ann Stuhan and published by ASHP. This book was released on 2012-11-15 with total page 1016 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using language and organization aimed directly at pharmacy technicians, Understanding Pharmacology for Pharmacy Technicians offers more than 700 pages of practical applications, safety issues and error prevention, and illustrative cases that not only explain how but why. Throughout the book, anatomy and physiology are discussed in relation to various disorders and associated pharmacotherapies to give the pharmacy technician students a context for how drugs work. Students using this book will learn the therapeutic effects of prescription medications, nonprescription medications, and alternative therapies commonly used to treat diseases affecting that system, and their adverse effects. An emphasis is placed on practical applications for the technician. What types of issues will technicians encounter at work? What is their role in patient education? How do they work with the pharmacist? Key features throughout the book: 77 case studies, including 249 case study questions More than 1,200 drugs discussed Pronunciations for difficult terms or words such as disease names Numerous figures and illustrations Alerts that point out areas of potential dangers or errors, including look-alike/sound-alike drugs. 335 practice points, including mention of any FDA-required patient medication guides, and any “special” drug storage and dispensing considerations, including beyond-use dating of open multi-use products. 110 commonly used and comprehensive drug tables. Chapter review questions The book’s content is written to meet ASHP accreditation standards and, therefore, is one of the most comprehensive books on the market related to pharmacology for technicians. Book Systems Pharmacology and Pharmacodynamics

Download or read book Systems Pharmacology and Pharmacodynamics written by Donald E. Mager and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-11-29 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While systems biology and pharmacodynamics have evolved in parallel, there are significant interrelationships that can enhance drug discovery and enable optimized therapy for each patient. Systems pharmacology is the relatively new discipline that is the interface between these two methods. This book is the first to cover the expertise from systems biology and pharmacodynamics researchers, describing how systems pharmacology may be developed and refined further to show practical applications in drug development. There is a growing awareness that pharmaceutical companies should reduce the high attrition in the pipeline due to insufficient efficacy or toxicity found in proof-of-concept and/or Phase II studies. Systems Pharmacology and Pharmacodynamics discusses the framework for integrating information obtained from understanding physiological/pathological pathways (normal body function system vs. perturbed system due to disease) and pharmacological targets in order to predict clinical efficacy and adverse events through iterations between mathematical modeling and experimentation.

Book Network Pharmacology

    Book Details:
  • Author : Shao Li
  • Publisher : Springer Nature
  • Release : 2021-09-29
  • ISBN : 9811607532
  • Pages : 480 pages

Download or read book Network Pharmacology written by Shao Li and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-09-29 with total page 480 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces “network pharmacology” as an emerging frontier subject of systematic drug research in the era of artificial intelligence and big data. Network Pharmacology is an original subject of fusion system biology, bioinformatics, network science and other related disciplines. It emphasizes on starting from the overall perspective of the system level and biological networks, the analysis of the laws of molecular association between drugs and their treatment objects, reveals the systematic pharmacological mechanisms of drugs, and guides the research and development of new drugs and clinical diagnosis and treatment. After it was proposed, network pharmacology has been paid attention by researchers, and it has been rapidly developed and widely used. In order to systematically reveal the biological basis of diagnosis and treatment in traditional Chinese medicine and modern medicine, we proposed a new concept of "network target" for the first time, which has become the core theory of "network pharmacology". The core principle of a network target is to construct a biological network that can be used to decipher complex diseases. The network is then used as the therapeutic target, to which multicomponent remedies are applied. This book mainly includes four parts: 1) The concept and theory of network pharmacology; 2) Common analysis methods, databases and software in network pharmacological research; 3) Typical cases of traditional Chinese medicine modernization and modern drug research based on network pharmacology; 4) Network pharmacology practice process based on drugs and diseases.
