Book Strategic Partners

Download or read book Strategic Partners written by Jeanne Wilson and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-06-11 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Russia's foreign policy experience in the first post-Soviet decade was marked by disappointments as well as surprising turns. Expectations that Russia would join the Western powers as an equal partner were frustrated, while relations with the People's Republic of China warmed considerably. Today, Russia's relationship with China is an important component of its overall foreign policy orientation, as the two states - one greatly diminished, the other clearly on the rise - have found themselves sharing an interest in curbing the power of the United States. In analyzing Russia's evolving foreign policy vis-a-vis China, the author takes into account the legacy of Soviet-era precedents; the simultaneous processes of economic policy change and integration into global economic structures; and military relations. By shedding light on the role of political realism, decision makers, and exogenous factors in Russian foreign policy, this analysis of an important bilateral relationship contributes to the larger project of understanding international relations and the dynamics of domestic and foreign policy change.

Book China and Taiwan in Africa

Download or read book China and Taiwan in Africa written by Sabella O. Abidde and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-04-22 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited volume discusses the contest and contestation between China and Taiwan for diplomatic recognition and supremacy on the African continent. Written by a diverse group of international scholars, this volume provides insight into five interlocking questions and areas: the origins of China and Taiwan’s continent-wide competition for supremacy; China and Taiwan’s foreign policy towards Africa during and after the Cold War; the shift in dominance from Taiwan to China; the changing allegiances of African governments; and the implications of ongoing China-Africa-Taiwan relations on the global system, especially on countries in the Global South. This book is divided into three parts. Part One deals primarily with the early history of both Chinas on the continent. Chapters in Part Two discuss the foreign policy of China and Taiwan toward the African continent. Part Three focuses on the shifting alliances and diplomatic allegiance of African countries towards the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and the Republic of China (ROC). Filling the gap in Africa-China-Taiwan studies, this volume will be of interest to researchers and students in the social sciences especially political science, comparative politics, international relations, foreign policy, politics of developing nations, area studies, and Taiwanese/Chinese studies.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The end of the 1980s and the beginning of the 1990s have been a time of great change for academic libraries and librarians. Rapid developments in technology have revolutionized the libraries' means and mission, while declining budgets have adversely impacted the ability of librarians to carry out their roles. The literature of academic librarianship today reflects these changes and points to the direction in which academic libraries are headed. This book is a comprehensive guide to book chapters and articles written on academic librarianship between 1990 and 1993. Entries for nearly 1,700 works are grouped in six topical chapters for ease of use. Each entry includes an informative annotation that summarizes the key points made by the authors, the major findings of research projects, and the names and locations of libraries with innovative programs. Extensive author, article, book/journal title, and subject indexes conclude the work. The volume is a useful tool for locating specific information on various topics, and it is a forecast of the future of academic libraries.

Book The Discourse of Palestinian Israeli Relations

Download or read book The Discourse of Palestinian Israeli Relations written by Sean F. McMahon and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2010-04-15 with total page 381 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many observers have portrayed the Oslo Process as a milestone in the peacemaking process between Palestinians and Israelis. In this controversial and groundbreaking new work, McMahon challenges the interpretation of the Oslo Process as a breakthrough or new beginning in Palestinian-Israeli relations. He argues that the Oslo Process affected no discursive or non-discursive change and that the Oslo Process in fact institutionalized the analytics practices involved in Israeli and Palestinian relations. It should, McMahon concludes, be no surprise that the process ended with direct Palestinian-Israeli violence. This book will be crucial reading for scholars of Israeli and Palestinian relations as well as anyone who is interested in understanding what discursive change must occur for peace between Israel and Palestinians to be established and sustained.
