We recognize that Jesus, being the Son of God, had an advantage of possible great pre-knowledge. John had to study and grow and find it out in the Bible, which of course is only the Old Testament of our time. Jesus recognizes how important John is in the few times that he talks about him, but Jesus' mission really moves ahead after John's mission has been completed.
