And carves an X into their flesh. Five years ago, he claimed the lives of six women. Then the killings abruptly stopped—no one knows why. Ex-homicide detective Frank Quinn remembers. Which is why he's shocked to see one of the dead women in his office. Actually, she's the identical twin of the last victim, and she wants Quinn to find her sister's murderer. But when the cold case heats up, it attracts the media spotlight--and suddenly the killings start again... Urge to Kill Homicide detective Frank Quinn can't stay retired when a new breed of murdering madman is on the prowl. Book excerpt: Leila Kahana Maui Mysteries Bundle contains the first two complete novels in the Leila Kahana Mystery series, including Murder in Maui and Murder on Kaanapali Beach, as well as a novelette, Kaanapali Beach Paradise. Murder in Maui (A Leila Kahana Mystery) In this first novel of the series, set in the lush, deceptively idyllic tropical paradise of Hawaii, Maui County homicide detective and composite sketch artist Leila Kahana and her partner, Detective Sergeant Blake Seymour, investigate the execution-style murder of two prominent doctors in an upscale condominium. Larry Nagasaka and Elizabeth Racine are found lying naked in bed in a pool of their own blood. It is learned that they were married, but not to each other, and that the doctors belonged to a prestigious medical association. Assisting the detectives in the case are fellow members of the homicide squad, Detectives Trent Ferguson and Rachel Lancaster, run by Lieutenant Paul Ortega who is contemplating retirement. As they interview suspects and collect evidence, more doctors belonging to the medical association are murdered, making it clear to all that they have a ruthless and determined serial killer on their hands. Murder on Kaanapali Beach (A Leila Kahana Mystery) In the second book in series, Maui County homicide detective and composite sketch artist Leila Kahana and her new partner, Detective Jonny Chung, take on the case of a college instructor found murdered on the island's famed Kaanapali Beach. Joyce Yashiro, estranged from her husband, was suffocated when she was forced face down into the soft sand on the beach. In a seemingly unrelated case, Detectives Rachel Lancaster and Trent Ferguson investigate the execution-style murder of businessman Parker Breslin in front of his Kihei home. As the investigations progress with a myriad of suspects, a surprising connection between the investigations emerges. But is there one killer or two? As these cases move full steam ahead, there is also a brutal serial killer on the loose. Dubbed the "Zip Line Killer," he has been terrorizing women on the island, strangling them with a zip line, for over a year, while staying out of reach of the authorities. Do they finally have a break that can put this frightening killer behind bars before he strikes again? Kaanapali Beach Paradise (A Novelette) Set amidst the lush playground of Maui, Hawaii's famed Kaanapali Beach Resort, the soap opera style tale of adultery, ambition, dark secrets, love, lust, hate, romance, betrayal, revenge, and murder, revolves around the anticipated grand opening of the Kaanapali Palms Hotel, the newest luxury accommodation on this three mile-long ocean front stretch of paradise on the island's western shore. Kaanapali Beach Paradise is the first in a continuing series of novelettes that promises to keep readers engaged as lives and loves are turned upside down with twists at every turn amidst the splendor of a celebrated Hawaii beach resort.

This book was released on 1992 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: No other official record or group of records is as historically significant as the 1790 census of the United States. The original 1790 enumerations covered the present states of Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vermont, and Virginia. Unfortunately, not all the schedules have survived, the returns for the states of Delaware, Georgia, Kentucky, New Jersey, Tennessee, and Virginia having been lost or destroyed, possibly when the British burned the Capitol at Washington during the War of 1812, though there seems to be no proof for this. For Virginia, taxpayer lists made in the years 1782-1785 have been reconstructed as replacements for the original returns. In response to repeated requests from genealogists, historians, and patriotic societies, the surviving census records were published by the Bureau of the Census in 1907 and 1908. The twelve states whose records were then extant are each covered by a single volume. The twelve published volumes contain the names of the heads of about 400,000 families, with information concerning their place of residence, the size of their families, and the approximate ages of the male family members. The families, averaging six people each, comprised about 2,400,000 individuals, or approximately 75% of the total population of the United States at the time.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Florida PI Fred Carver is back—in the final set of crime thrillers from the New York Times–bestselling author who “just keeps getting better and better” (Tony Hillerman). New York Times– and USA Today–bestselling author John Lutz has been hailed as “a major talent” by John Lescroart and “one of the masters” by Ridley Pearson. “Lutz offers up a heart-pounding roller coaster” (Jeffery Deaver) in his thrillers and “knows how to make you shiver” (Harlan Coben). “The Carver series is the finest work yet by this prolific author” (St. Louis Post-Dispatch). After a criminal’s bullet shattered not only his knee but also his career as an Orlando cop and his marriage, Fred Carver starts over as a private detective. In this award-winning ten-book series, Lutz’s “dogged Carver is a believably heroic guy, tough, scarred and able to exhibit fear and courage at the same time” (Publishers Weekly). Spark: A retired schoolteacher turns to Carver after receiving an anonymous note that her husband was murdered. Her case takes the PI into the depths of Solartown: a stately Florida retirement community where seventy is the new forty, golf carts are the only way to get around, and death from natural causes is nowhere to be found. “Down and dirty . . . a good, fast read.” —The Houston Post Torch: Carver has to approach his latest case from every angle—as members of a love triangle start suddenly dying and disappearing, beginning with the woman who hired him minutes before her death. “For a long-running series, this one is still hot . . . with lots of nice noir touches to give it texture. The dialogue is brisk and brittle, the action gets nasty when it must, and the characters are as shady as the sunny climate allows.” —The New York Times Book Review Burn: When he is accused of stalking a woman he swears he’s never met, building contractor and recent widower Joel Brant asks Carver for help clearing his name. But as the PI digs into the case, he begins to wonder who’s stalking whom? “Riveting . . . Lutz’s eye for Florida noir is impeccable . . . Top of the line.” —Publishers Weekly Lightning: An explosion at a Florida clinic causes Carver’s lover, Beth, to miscarry. The police arrest an anti-abortion fanatic, but when the violence continues, Carver pursues the bomber on his own. “Lutz is an expert—he’ll have you glued to the page.” —The Denver Post
