Written in a lush and vivid style, Keats weaves a tale of passion and tragedy that captivates readers with its rich imagery and emotional depth. Set in a mythical world where reality and fantasy collide, 'Lamia' showcases Keats' mastery of Romantic poetry and his ability to evoke intense emotions through his verses. John Keats, one of the key figures of the Romantic movement, was deeply influenced by both classical literature and the natural world. 'Lamia' reflects Keats' fascination with beauty, mythology, and the complexities of human relationships. His own experiences of love and loss undoubtedly played a role in shaping the themes and characters of the poem, adding a personal touch to his exploration of the human psyche. Book excerpt: Differentiated book- It has a historical context with research of the time-John Keats (London, October 31, 1795-Rome, February 23, 1821) was one of the leading British poets of Romanticism. During his short life his work was the object of constant attacks and it was not until much later that it was completely claimed. Keats's lyrics are characterized by an exuberant and imaginative language, tempered by melancholy. Keats often had the feeling of working in the shadow of the great poets of the past and only towards the end of his short-lived life, when he felt the darkness of death near, was he able to produce his most authentic and memorable poems. He was born in the Finsbury Pavement, on the outskirts of London; his father owned a stable and died from the fall of a horse in 1803, when the poet was only seven years old.Her mother remarried immediately, but this second marriage was unhappy and the mother soon abandoned her second husband and moved to live at Keats' grandmother's house in Enfield with John, her sister, and three other brothers, of whom one soon died. There the poet went to a good school and before the age of fifteen he was already steeped in classics and translated Virgil; however, the mother died in 1810 of tuberculosis.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lamia: Large Print By John Keats Lamia is a narrative poem written by English poet John Keats which was published in 1820. The poem was written in 1819, during the famously productive period that produced his 1819 odes. It was composed soon after his "La belle dame sans merci" and his odes on Melancholy, on Indolence, to a Grecian Urn and to a Nightingale and just before "Ode to Autumn." The poem tells how the god Hermes hears of a nymph who is more beautiful than all. Hermes, searching for the nymph, instead comes across Lamia, trapped in the form of a serpent. She reveals the previously invisible nymph to him and in return he restores her human form. She goes to seek a youth of Corinth, Lycius, while Hermes and his nymph depart together into the woods. The relationship between Lycius and Lamia, however, is destroyed when the sage Apollonius reveals Lamia's true identity at their wedding feast, whereupon she seemingly disappears and Lycius dies of grief.
