Book The Esc Textbook of Heart Failure

Download or read book The Esc Textbook of Heart Failure written by Petar Seferovic and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2024-02-09 with total page 1041 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ESC Textbook of Heart Failure is the latest addition to the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) publications portfolio and is fully supported by the European Heart Failure Association. The textbook brings together internationally renowned experts in the field of heart failure to present an up-to-date understanding of all aspects of this chronic condition that worsens with time. It is estimated that the worldwide population of patients suffering from heart failure is approximately 26 million. This clinically oriented work reflects contemporary European guidelines from the ESC and the European Heart Failure Association and summarizes the latest evidence from clinical trials. Made up of eighteen different sections the textbook covers the epidemiology, etiology, prevention, pathophysiology, and clinical phenotypes of heart failure. The assessment and management of chronic, acute, and advance heart failure are all discussed in detail. As well as chapters dedicated to self-care and patient education, the multidisciplinary approach to heart failure management, and clinical trial design and interpretation. The future direction of the field is discussed throughout with separate chapters on digital health, big data, and telemedicine/remote monitoring in heart failure also included. A must read for cardiovascular healthcare specialists in Europe and across the world it should also appeal to those in training, general physicians and those caring of the elderly, cardiothoracic surgeons, primary care doctors, and specialist nurses too.

Book Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation

Download or read book Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation written by Michael S. Firstenberg and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2016-09-14 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), despite a long and troubled history, is very rapidly evolving into a therapy that can be safely and effectively applied across the world in patients experiencing acute cardiac and/or pulmonary failure. As experiences grow, there is a better understanding of nuances of the importance of teamwork, therapy guidelines and protocols, patient selection, and understanding the functional aspects of pump-circuit technology as it interfaces with human biology. The challenges in managing these very sick and complex patients cannot be understated. The goal of this text is to provide a framework for the development and successful growth of a program. Authors from Centers of Excellence Worldwide have shared their experiences in the full spectrum in dealing with this evolving field.

Book Biochemistry of Signal Transduction in Myocardium

Download or read book Biochemistry of Signal Transduction in Myocardium written by Jos M.J. Lamers and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The chapters in this volume are the Proceedings of the Satellite Symposium of the XVIth World Congress of the International Society for Heart Research on `Signal Transduction in Normal and Diseased Myocardium' which was held in Rotterdam at the Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences of the Erasmus University, June 30 and July 1, 1995. Diverse and distinct auto-, para-, and endocrine stimuli arriving at the surface of endothelium, smooth muscle cells, cardiomyocytes and fibroblasts within the myocardium, engage cell type-specific receptors, which lead to transmission of signals across the cell plasma membrane and result in the production and activation of second messengers. The most common mechanism by which these second messengers function is via direct or indirect activation of specific protein kinases. The current challenge for scientists is to identify the specific substrates (e.g. metabolic enzymes, Ca2+-regulating proteins, transcription and mitotic factors) for the many protein kinases, to elucidate the biological significance of the cell type-specific expression heterogeneity of signalling proteins (e.g. membrane receptors, isoenzymes of protein kinase C, G-proteins) and to unravel the cross-talk interaction between the signalling systems (e.g. phospholipase C with adenylate cyclase and phospholipase C with phospholipase D). The multiplicity of receptor types, G-proteins, effector proteins, second messengers and protein kinases, their substrate proteins and the `cross-talk' interactions in the myocardium raises fundamental questions about the mechanisms that ensure the precision and timing of the myocardial responses to hormonal and pharmacological stimuli. This book provides an up-to-date source of information for all scientists and clinicians interested in the mechanisms by which external signals are transmitted to the interior and regulation of a variety of physiological, pathological and pharmacological responses.

Book Aldosterone Mineralocorticoid Receptor

Many of the drugs in clinical use, and in development for treating hypertension, target aldosterone and MR actions in the kidney and cardiovascular system. The ADMIRE book assembles review chapters from 16 European ADMIRE laboratories providing the latest insights into mechanisms of aldosterone synthesis/secretion, aldosterone/MR physiology and signaling, and the pathophysiological roles of aldosterone/MR activation.
