Book Jets in High Energy Hadronic Collisions

Download or read book Jets in High Energy Hadronic Collisions written by Ali Zaman and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2011-04 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The jet production in proton-proton, proton-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus collisions at relativistic and ultrarelativistic energies using the HIJING is studied and discussed. We analyzed the distributions of multiplicity of secondary charged particles, their pseudorapidity, rapidity and the transverse mass as a function of the number of jets. These parameters are used to estimate energy density and temperature of the hadronic matter to get the signal about QGP formation. For ultrarelativistic energy we considered pp at 14 TeV, PbPb at 5.5 TeV, pPb at 8.8 TeV and ArAr at 6.3 TeV, same as in ALICE and also at 25.0 GeV as relativistic energy. We obtained some insights about some properties of jets and their influences on the characteristics of the secondary particles produced in relativistic and ultrarelativistic hadronic collisions. In this text the background information about the jet production is presented in chapter 1. Chapter 2 contains description of the HIJING parameters. Chapter 3 is a description of the ALICE detectors. The results obtained by using the HIJING for pp, pA and AA interactions are presented and discussed in Chapter 4. Chapter 5 summarizes the conclusions.

Book Jet Quenching in Relativistic Heavy Ion Collisions at the LHC

Download or read book Jet Quenching in Relativistic Heavy Ion Collisions at the LHC written by Aaron Angerami and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-02 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis presents the first measurements of jets in relativistic heavy ion collisions as reported by the ATLAS Collaboration. These include the first direct observation of jet quenching through the observation of a centrality-dependent dijet asymmetry. Also, a series of jet suppression measurements are presented, which provide quantitative constraints on theoretical models of jet quenching. These results follow a detailed introduction to heavy ion physics with emphasis on the phenomenon of jet quenching and a comprehensive description of the ATLAS detector and its capabilities with regard to performing these measurements.

Book Shape Transverse Size and Charged Hadron Multiplicity of Jets in Pp Collisions at 7 TeV

Download or read book Shape Transverse Size and Charged Hadron Multiplicity of Jets in Pp Collisions at 7 TeV written by and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 37 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Measurements of jet characteristics from inclusive jet production in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV are presented. The data sample was collected with the CMS detector at the LHC during 2010 and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 36 inverse picobarns. The mean charged hadron multiplicity, the differential and integral jet shape distributions, and two independent moments of the shape distributions are measured as functions of the jet transverse momentum for jets reconstructed with the anti-kT algorithm. The measured observables are corrected to the particle level and compared with predictions from various QCD Monte Carlo generators.

Book excerpt: This concise primer reviews the latest developments in the field of jets. Jets are collinear sprays of hadrons produced in very high-energy collisions, e.g. at the LHC or at a future hadron collider. They are essential to and ubiquitous in experimental analyses, making their study crucial. At present LHC energies and beyond, massive particles around the electroweak scale are frequently produced with transverse momenta that are much larger than their mass, i.e., boosted. The decay products of such boosted massive objects tend to occupy only a relatively small and confined area of the detector and are observed as a single jet. Jets hence arise from many different sources and it is important to be able to distinguish the rare events with boosted resonances from the large backgrounds originating from Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD). This requires familiarity with the internal properties of jets, such as their different radiation patterns, a field broadly known as jet substructure. This set of notes begins by providing a phenomenological motivation, explaining why the study of jets and their substructure is of particular importance for the current and future program of the LHC, followed by a brief but insightful introduction to QCD and to hadron-collider phenomenology. The next section introduces jets as complex objects constructed from a sequential recombination algorithm. In this context some experimental aspects are also reviewed. Since jet substructure calculations are multi-scale problems that call for all-order treatments (resummations), the bases of such calculations are discussed for simple jet quantities. With these QCD and jet physics ingredients in hand, readers can then dig into jet substructure itself. Accordingly, these notes first highlight the main concepts behind substructure techniques and introduce a list of the main jet substructure tools that have been used over the past decade. Analytic calculations are then provided for several families of tools, the goal being to identify their key characteristics. In closing, the book provides an overview of LHC searches and measurements where jet substructure techniques are used, reviews the main take-home messages, and outlines future perspectives.

Book Production of High P t Jets in Hadron Nucleus Collisions

Download or read book Production of High P t Jets in Hadron Nucleus Collisions written by and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present results on the production of jets and "jetlike" clusters in 800-GeV/c proton-nucleus (pA) collisions. Events with high values of transverse energy in the central kinematic region were selected for nuclear targets of H, Be, C, Cu, and Pb. A jet-finding algorithm was used in analyzing the data. The A dependence of the jet and dijet cross sections was parametrized as A?. The values of? for events with "jetlike" cluster pairs found by the algorithm without any additional kinematic cuts reach a plateau of approximately 1.5 at dijet transverse energies> GeV. The collimation of observed "jetlike" clusters decreases with A, and the fragmentation is softer for heavier target nuclei. However, nuclear effects become less pronounced with the increasing cluster or cluster-pair transverse energy. We argue that the observed nuclear enhancement for the production of "jetlike" clusters is due to underlying event or/and soft-scattering contributions to the heavy-nuclei data. We show that the nuclear enhancement becomes consistent with a value of? within 0.10 from unity once the data are corrected for the underlying event or kinematic cuts enhancing clear jet structure are applied.

Book excerpt: This book reviews the latest experimental results on jet physics from proton-proton collisons at the LHC. Jets allow to determine the strong coupling constant over a wide range of energies up the highest ones possible so far, and to constrain the gluon parton distribution of the proton, both of which are important uncertainties on theory predictions in general and for the Higgs boson in particular.A novel approach in this book is to categorize the examined quantities according to the types of absolute, ratio, or shape measurements and to explain in detail the advantages and differences. Including numerous illustrations and tables the physics message and impact of each observable is clearly elaborated.
