Book Dream It Do It

Download or read book Dream It Do It written by Marty Sklar and published by Disney Electronic Content. This book was released on 2013-08-13 with total page 435 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Marty Sklar was hired by The Walt Disney Company after his junior year at UCLA, and began his Disney career at Disneyland in July 1955, the month before the park opened. He spent his first decade at Disney as "the kid," the very youngest of the creative team Walt had assembled at WED Enterprises. But despite his youth, his talents propelled him forward into substantial responsibility: he became Walt's speech writer, penned Walt's and Roy's messages in the company's annual report, composed most of the publicity and marketing materials for Disneyland, conceived presentations for the U.S. government, devised initiatives to obtain sponsors to enable new Disneyland developments, and wrote a twenty-four-minute film expressing Walt's philosophy for the Walt Disney World project and Epcot. He was Walt's literary right-hand man. Over the next forty years, Marty Sklar rose to become president and principal creative executive of Walt Disney Imagineering, and he devoted his entire career to creating, enhancing, and expanding Walt's magical empire. This beautifully written and enlightening book is Marty's own retelling of his epic Disney journey, a grand adventure that lasted over half a century.

Is the journey with God meant to be one where we mindlessly live it, abandoned to simply react to what we see on our own? Is there more for us? Is there good or better? Where is Christ Jesus in our everyday lives? What now? Considering 2022 and beyond—If you are ready to peel back the layers of your life and explore your personal, Christian journey, The Annual Life Journal is for you! The past couple of years have been years like no other. They have been polarizing, perplexing, scary, challenging, and passionate. We have seen the best of us and the worst of us. We are all grappling with what to do next, trying to understand what the Spirit of God is saying to us. Can we hear clearly? So many emotions are running hot, yet God is still speaking. Are we listening? Can we calm down long enough to hear His still, small Voice? Are we able to find a safe way to channel our fears, frustrations, doubts, lack of understanding, sadness, anxiety, disappointments, grief, and losses? I believe God’s answer to us is, “Yes.” But, we must journey with the Lord in order for this to happen. There is no other way. This Journal is a resource to center our attention where it should be—in life with Christ by the power and inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Jesus suffered, bled, died, and was resurrected for our lives. Book Scandalizing Jesus

Download or read book Scandalizing Jesus written by Darren J. N. Middleton and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2005-11-03 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 2005 marks the fiftieth anniversary of Nikos Kazantzakis' The Last Temptation of Christ. Since Kazantzakis ranks as one of the twentieth century's most important European writers, and given that this particular work of his has garnered so much publicity, this collection of essays re-assesses the novel, though not forgetting the movie, in light of one half century's worth of criticism and reception history. Clergy and laity alike have denounced this novel. When it first appeared, the Greek Orthodox Church condemned it, the Vatican placed it on its Index of Forbidden Texts, and conservative-evangelicals around the world protested its allegedly blasphemous portrayal of a human, struggling Messiah who "succumbs" to the devil's final snare while on the Cross: the temptation to happiness. Assuredly, the sentiments surrounding this novel, at least in the first thirty years or so, were very strong. When Martin Scorcese decided in the early 1980s to adapt the novel for the silver screen, even stronger feelings were expressed. Even today his works are seldom studied in Greece, largely because the Greek government is unable or unwilling to anthologize his material for the national curriculum. After fifty years, however, the time seems right to re-examine the novel, the man, and the film, locating Kazantzakis and his work within an important debate about the relationship between religion and art (literary and cinematic). Until now a book-length assessment of Kazantzakis' novel, and the film it inspired, has not appeared. No such volume is planned to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the novel's publication. For those who work in Kazantzakis studies, a focused anthology like this one is missing from library collections. The volume contains original essays by Martin Scorcese, the film critic Peter Chattaway, and Kazantzakis' translator, Peter A. Bien.

Book Journals of Brother Roger of Taiz Volume 2

Download or read book Journals of Brother Roger of Taiz Volume 2 written by Brother Roger of Taize and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2023-04-20 with total page 109 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the second volume of the personal journals of Roger Schutz-Marsauche (1915-2005), known as Brother Roger, the founder and first prior of the Taize Community in France, an ecumenical monastic community that strives to live as a "parable of community" in a divided world. Taize is known especially for its music and contemplative style of worship, and as a place where tens of thousands of young Christians flock each year to spend a time of prayer and reflection. This volume covers the years from 1969 to 1972 and is centered on the genesis and first preparations of a "Council of Youth." The project was inspired by the crisis in the Catholic Church in the wake of the Second Vatican Council, and the slowdown of ecumenism after the glowing hopes kindled in the wake of the Council. It was an attempt to take seriously the aspirations of the younger generation and orient them in a positive direction. Brother Roger also talks in these pages about the ongoing life of the community, his personal spiritual journey, and many important encounters that took place in those eventful years.

Book Paul and the New Perspective

Download or read book Paul and the New Perspective written by Seyoon Kim and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 2001-11-08 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Understanding Paul and his conversion to Christianity is imperative for a thorough knowledge of the New Testament. In Paul and the New Perspective Seyoon Kim develops his argument that the origin of Paul's gospel lies in two places his radical conversion at Damascus and his usage of the Jesus tradition in light of Damascus. This new way of looking at Paul further explains how Paul made strong distinctions between the Spirit and the flesh/law, with further implications for his doctrine of justification. A departure from the New Perspective School represented by James D. G. Dunn, Kim's Paul and the New Perspective offers a thorough and extensive argument for the foundation of the gospel that Paul spread in the first century.
