Book excerpt: (1) Revival began in the Olmos high-security prison (Argentina, South America), with half of its 3,000 inmates now believers. This revival spread to 200 other prisons. An estimated 25 percent of all prisoners in Argentina are now Christians. One prison, Cristo la Unica Esperanza, has become a completely (100 percent) evangelical prison in Latin America. Approximately 250 pastors work in prisons in Argentina. (2) The success story of Bellavista Prison (Columbia, Central America), a maximum-security prison in Medellin that was often called “hell on earth,” is an inspiration. Through prayer and bold Christian witness, the prison has seen a remarkable turning of hardened criminals to Christ and the end of rampant murderousness. Many inmates are now believers, and there is regular prayer, fasting, and evangelism in this prison, and even a Christian radio station has been formed there. A Bible institute has also been formed in this prison, training inmates to minister both in prison and after release. If God can do this in South America, in Central America, in Westchester County Jail (NY), in Metropolitan Detention Center (NY), and in Otisville Prison-Camp (NY), then HE can do this in other prisons of the United States of America and the world, too. Is there anything too hard for the Lord?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this sequel to Peace in Prison, author Joy Dutton-Seltzer offers more short devotional thoughts and stories that are based on her life experiences of learning to trust in God and claim His Bible promises. These real answers to her prayers have led her to a steadfast belief in God and His ways—something she wants to share with you! As she notes—fortunately for all of us—there is no sin too big for God to forgive. His words of encouragement to us are, “You have failed, but YOU, my child, are NOT a failure.” Enjoy and be blessed by these stories of hope, encouragement, and forgiveness! Then think about others who need this same message. Do you have a heart for lonely people? Including someone who’s less than desirable in the eyes of society or forgotten—such as someone in jail? Jesus said, “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat…, I was in prison and you came to visit me” (Matthew 25:34, NIV). Share Joy’s message with those who are in prison. Let this book tell them the truth about themselves and God. We all are trying to fill an emptiness in us that only God can fill. We have all failed some part of our lives. Some failures have put us behind bars. But even there, our Creator is ready to wrap His arms of love around us and forgive us. Even if we have sinned and feel we have messed up our lives beyond fixing, Jesus says, “…with God, all things are possible” (Matthew 19:26, KJV). There is no sin too big for God to forgive. No matter where a person is or what he or she has done, God still has a perfect plan for a new life. God specializes in being close to those behind bars! Give someone in prison this message of hope that they are desperately longing to hear!

Download or read book A Prisoner of Jesus Christ written by Jimmy E Windham and published by . This book was released on 2021-02-09 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the true story of a young boy who grew up with a deep desire for love and acceptance. Instead he was harshly abused and mistreated by his alcoholic preacher father and older brother. He grew into a violent man whose life consisted of fights, and scrapes with law enforcement. He learned to run when things got really tough. Often, he sought the will of God for his life, rising from being a victim to an overcomer several times, however drugs and alcohol always pulled him back down. He had a beautiful wife and children that he loved dearly, but when things got tough, he'd walk away into the ready arms of alcohol and other women. This would be his undoing. Finally, one day in 1984, a shootout left a man dead and him in the county jail on a murder charge. Thinking his life was over, he attempted to end his life, but two ministers of God felt led to pray with him, thus preventing his death. Finally, in an honest attempt to be set free from his guilt and pain, he cried out to God, and God saved him and set him free. He found that God was not finished with him and discovered his life had just begun. This story is a must read for evangelical use or prison ministry, for it points those who are going astray including those already in jails or prisons to the cross of Calvary and to a loving, forgiving Savior who will set them free too. Jimmy Windham has been in a maximum-security prison in the South Carolina prison system for over 34 years. Though his life and testimony have won many men to Christ; he still requests prayers for the strength of Christ in his everyday life. Bro. Jimmy is still in prison, but by God's anointing on his life, he is standing in faith and still testifying of God's delivering power over sin and brokenness.

Book Time of Grace

Download or read book Time of Grace written by Ken Lamberton and published by University of Arizona Press. This book was released on 2015-11-01 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “I hole up in my own cozy cubicle and write, considering ways to make the approaching Thanksgiving holiday not just another day in this place. In prison, hope faces east; time is measured in wake-ups.” Time of Grace is a remarkable book, written with great eloquence by a former science teacher who was incarcerated for twelve years for his sexual liaison with a teenage student. Far more than a “prison memoir,” it is an intimate and revealing look at relationships—with fellow humans and with the surprising wildlife of the Sonoran Desert, both inside and beyond prison walls. Throughout, Ken Lamberton reflects on human relations as they mimic and defy those of the natural world, whose rhythms calibrate Lamberton’s days and years behind bars. He writes with candor about his life, while observing desert flora and fauna with the insight and enthusiasm of a professional naturalist. While he studies a tarantula digging her way out of the packed earth and observes Mexican freetail bats sailing into the evening sky, Lamberton ruminates on his crime and on the wrenching effects it has had on his wife and three daughters. He writes of his connections with his fellow inmates—some of whom he teaches in prison classes—and with the guards who control them, sometimes with inexplicable cruelty. And he unflinchingly describes a prison system that has gone horribly wrong—a system entrapped in a self-created web of secrecy, fear, and lies. This is the final book of Lamberton’s trilogy about the twelve years he spent in prison. Readers of his earlier books will savor this last volume. Those who are only now discovering Lamberton’s distinctive voice—part poet, part scientist, part teacher, and always deeply, achingly human—will feel as if they are making a new friend. Gripping, sobering, and beautifully written, Lamberton’s memoir is an unforgettable exploration of crime, punishment, and the power of the human spirit.

Book excerpt: In 1979, there were fewer than 500 known Christians from a Muslim background in Iran. Today there are at least 100,000 believers . Church leaders believe that millions can be added to the church in the next few years ' such is the spiritual hunger that exists. The religious violence that accompanied the reign of President Ahmadinejad drained its perpetrators of political and religious legitimacy, and has opened the door to other faiths. This book sets the rapid church growth in Iran in the context of the deteriorating relationship between Iranians and their national religion. There is a major focus on the Ahmadinejad years, but the author also covers the history of the church before 1979, picking up on the central idea that the spark may have become buried in the ashes but has never been extinguished. The book is careful, proportionate, well-informed and accurate. Throughout the text there will be boxes with stories of faith, persecution, and encouragement.

Book When Prophecy Fails

Download or read book When Prophecy Fails written by Leon Festinger and published by Start Classics. This book was released on 2024-03-26 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study reported in this volume grew out of some theoretical work one phase of which bore specifically on the behavior of individuals in social movements that made specific (and unfulfilled) prophecies. We had been forced to depend chiefly on historical records to judge the adequacy of our theoretical ideas until we by chance discovered the social movement that we report in this book. At the time we learned of it the movement was in mid-career but the prophecy about which it was centered had not yet been disconfirmed. We were understandably eager to undertake a study that could test our theoretical ideas under natural conditions. That we were able to do this study was in great measure due to the support obtained through the Laboratory for Research in Social Relations of the University of Minnesota. This study is a project of the Laboratory and was carried out while we were all members of its staff. We should also like to acknowledge the help we received through a grant-in-aid from the Ford Foundation to one of the authors a grant that made preliminary exploration of the field situation possible.
