Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Life of Our Saviour Jesus Christ, Vol. 2: Three Hundred and Sixty-Five Compositions From the Four Gospels, With Notes and Explanatory Drawings Now, however, when the hour of the last scene is approaching, it is about the Temple. The centre of a confused and menacing agitation, that the events of the Saviour's life are to group themselves. In fact to consummate His mission, Jesus had to approach the unique focus whence radiates, for the people of Israel, the whole of their religious life. There were to be struck the last grand blows; there was to be prepared the supreme catastrophe. A divine reformer, Jesus came to attack that jealous aristocracy which arrogated to its own profit a monopoly of all doctrinal influence. He would apparently be beaten in the conflict, but this defeat of a day would be the starting point of a final victory and the glory shed on His last hours by His presence in Jerusalem would mightily aid in the diffusion of the truth. Book Saving God s Face

    Book Details:
  • Author : Jackson Wu
  • Publisher : WCIU Press
  • Release : 2013-04
  • ISBN : 086585047X
  • Pages : 376 pages

Download or read book Saving God s Face written by Jackson Wu and published by WCIU Press. This book was released on 2013-04 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Years ago, the author had a startling realization. Theologians and pastors have long taught on the glory of God and its central importance in the Bible. However, because he was living in East Asia, it also dawned on the author that this sort of talk about God's glory, praising Him, and magnifying His name was simply another way of talking about honor and shame. When the author looked at most theology and ministry-related books, he found that honor and shame seemed to be treated differently. Anthropologists talked about honor-shame, but theologians largely focused more on legal metaphors. The author could see both themes in Scripture but couldn't find help as to how to bring them together. This study was developed in order to address this gap and bring those themes together. Book The Joy of the Gospel

Download or read book The Joy of the Gospel written by Pope Francis and published by Image. This book was released on 2014-10-07 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The perfect gift! A specially priced, beautifully designed hardcover edition of The Joy of the Gospel with a foreword by Robert Barron and an afterword by James Martin, SJ. “The joy of the gospel fills the hearts and lives of all who encounter Jesus… In this Exhortation I wish to encourage the Christian faithful to embark upon a new chapter of evangelization marked by this joy, while pointing out new paths for the Church’s journey in years to come.” – Pope Francis This special edition of Pope Francis's popular message of hope explores themes that are important for believers in the 21st century. Examining the many obstacles to faith and what can be done to overcome those hurdles, he emphasizes the importance of service to God and all his creation. Advocating for “the homeless, the addicted, refugees, indigenous peoples, the elderly who are increasingly isolated and abandoned,” the Holy Father shows us how to respond to poverty and current economic challenges that affect us locally and globally. Ultimately, Pope Francis demonstrates how to develop a more personal relationship with Jesus Christ, “to recognize the traces of God’s Spirit in events great and small.” Profound in its insight, yet warm and accessible in its tone, The Joy of the Gospel is a call to action to live a life motivated by divine love and, in turn, to experience heaven on earth. Includes a foreword by Robert Barron, author of Catholicism: A Journey to the Heart of the Faith and James Martin, SJ, author of Jesus: A Pilgrimage

It should also be remembered that these reports must be complete and therefore it is essential that particular attention be given to them. The work will be preserved, bound into volumes and thus become a history of the work done in the mission field. An oversight in the printed matter on the reports occurred and on this account it will be neces sary to write upon it the name of the conference. The proper place would be just over the name of the mission. In signing the summary it is well to write the name in full. Book The Life of Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ

Download or read book The Life of Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ written by John Fleetwood and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-01-12 with total page 834 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Life of Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ: Together With the Lives of His Holy Apostles and Evangelists Now this longing of the Hebrew race for a Messiah, we are well assured, was not a cause, but an effect, of the Divine oracles and communications vouchsafed to them. They stood apart from the kingdoms round about them, in the peculiar relation which they sustained to the Almighty. They were being trained, though they knew it not, to be a centre of blessing to all the tribes of earth. Salva tion was of them, in a sense to which the residue of the nations could advance no claim. And, in consonance with this, we find a glow of promise lighting up their history - feeble and tremulous at first, but gathering in brightness and glory to the fulness of the time. This is the record of our Lord in the Old Testament, as the Gospels are his legacy in the New. It will be our object to examine the train of prediction by which he was made known to the fathers of mankind. And beginning as he himself did with Moses, we shall follow on, remarking the increasing clearness which comes forth in the prophets, as they testify beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.
