A. in 1903 from Wellesley College. It was here that she met Mary Emma Woolley (1863-1947), then a Wellesley professor, who was to remain her companion for the next fifty years. Marks began writing short stories while a student at Wellesley and continued to write throughout her career. She was professor of English Literature at Mount Holyoke College (1901-1939), and founder and director (1928-1941), of its Laboratory Theatre. She was a member of the National Woman's Party and chairman of the New York State branch, 1942-1947 and a member of the National Women's Party, the first organization to support the Equal Rights Amendment.
