Book excerpt: From time to time, certain individuals who display courage and self-sacrifice for the greater good emerge to make a lasting impact on the lives of entire communities. The late Jatani Ali Tandhu ("Shaalaqa") was such a figure, born into a Borana family in southern Ethiopia. 'Jatani Ali Tandhu: Life & Legacy of a Borana Statesman' is a biographical account of an outstanding and much-loved former governor of Borana Administrative Region of southern Ethiopia, from his birth to the fateful day of his assassination in Nairobi in 1992. The biography gives readers a glimpse into the life and work of a distinguished Borana, Oromo and Ethiopian leader. It is hoped that many young people from these communities will be inspired to follow in his footsteps in aiming to lift their people out of demeaning poverty, years of misrule and hopelessness. An everlasting monument to Jatani is not a statue cast from a bronze but the legacy that lives on in people's lives and minds, to inspire current and future generations to follow his example, in having the education, dedication and courage to serve their communities honourably. Tadhi Liban - the author - is among the pioneers of Borana boys who accessed modern education by order of Emperor Haile Selassie I in 1947. Tadhi knew Jatani Ali from the time of the latter's admission to Medhane Alem Boarding School in Addis Ababa in 1952. They became close friends as they grew up together and were concerned about the dire living conditions of people in their home region of Borana. Because of their close friendship, Tadhi knows a great deal about Jatani's life and accomplishments. Tadhi graduated from universities in Ethiopia and USA. He worked as a high school principal for many years in Addis Ababa and later worked as a management consultant and with NGOs in Ethiopia.

These same women, both young and old, adorn themselves with an array of body modifications and supplements. What is it about the objects and practices themselves that appear to hold such significance? Book The Electricity Box

Download or read book The Electricity Box written by Robyn Berkeley and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Eric was able to achieve extraordinary results through prayer and work on the spine or electricity box, as he called it. As he would say: "If the vertebrae are jammed or calcified together or not in the correct place as God has created, the nerves with authority over particular organs and tissues are inhibited, resulting in pain or confusion and disorder. This makes people concentrate on their particular ailment and pursue that, rather than allowing their minds to be free and at peace. That is, not allowing them to see the whole picture. It is a total degeneration of the human race over thousands of years." - Author, Robyn Berkeley - - - - - - - - - - "This book has been many years in the making, and I have longed for it, because I knew Eric McNally and his remarkable story - and I saw first-hand how knowing Eric changed Robyn. Berkeley profoundly. It's a tale worth telling. You'll love it!" - Janise Beaumont, Author - - - - - - - - - - Only when my chronic back pain had immobilised me and the painkillers I was taking outweighed my daily intake of food did I go to see Eric for an appointment arranged for me by a friend who's a comedian and a notorious practical joker. I thought I was on the receiving end of one of his cruellest ever pranks when I discovered Eric's "treatment" didn't involve prescriptions and tablets, but rather the deployment of a hammer and a chisel which he tapped on my spine like Michelangelo sculpting a slab of marble. It was only when the torture was over and I found myself swivelling my hips like Elvis Presley that I realised that, if this was a joke, I was the one laughing. I don't believe in God and I certainly don't believe in miracles but, before my very eyes, Eric prayed to God first and then proceeded to perform a miracle on me. Is it any wonder I'm confused? - Bill Leak editorial cartoonist with The Australian Painter and writer Australia - - - - - - - - - - "Meeting Eric McNally I was struck by this diminutive man on a walking stick. His twinkling blue eyes were both questioning and appraising and I was drawn to this softly spoken soul with such a tranquil spiritual aura. Then came the mallet and rubber as I bent over the stool - the treatment was followed by relief and a sense of peace and energy. Eric McNally changed people's lives for the better." - Glen - Marie Frost, Businesswoman and communicator Sydney

He retired as a major after a service distinguished by its ordinariness. Another career in commercial aviation followed and he saw even more of the world, acquiring an attachment to Cornwall without realising the county's wheal (the Cornish name for a mine) houses were signposts to his past. And now, the creator of Number 96 and the Executive Producer of The Mavis Bramston Show takes you behind the scenes of these two controversial, outrageously groundbreaking series for a jaunt through the industry’s Golden Years. These two shows flaunted the unmentionable, destroyed taboos, ridiculed sacred cows and dared to deal with subjects hitherto considered too shocking for polite society. They were condemned from the pulpit, slayed by the critcs, yet adored by an immense majority of viewers Actor, script writer, producer and author David Sale’s career progressed through the theatres and movie studios of London and Hollywood and the turbulent world of Australia’s TV industry, and he takes us with him every step of the way. It’s a life that began in war-ravaged Manchester, followed the migrant route to Australia, and – against all odds – hit the heights of show business. It can be summed up in four words. From Blitz to Glitz! "I held her firmly at arm’s length and told her not to forget to leave her breakfast order outside the door. All around us, whispers of debauchery filtered from elsewhere in the hotel. She turned her face up at me, with an innocence that belied her words, blinked at me, the tears still visible on her cheeks. ‘I’m serious, you know. I want to be a star. And I’ll do anything, f*ck anyone, toget there.I know you will, I said. And eventually, she did.
