Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With over 200 stunning photographs, this Japanese design and architecture book showcases some of the most beautiful homes in Japan. The pure beauty of Japanese architecture and design has inspired many of the world's top architects and designers. The grace and elegance of the Japanese sensibility is reflected in both modern and traditional Japanese homes, from their fluid floor plans to their use of natural materials. In The Japanese House, renowned Japanese photographer Noboru Murata has captured this Eastern spirit with hundreds of vivid color photographs of 15 Japanese homes. As we step behind the lens with Murata, we're witness to the unique Japanese aesthetic, to the simple proportions modeled after the square of the tatami mat; to refined, rustic decor; to earthy materials like wood, paper, straw, ceramics, and textiles. This is a glorious house-tour readers can return to again and again, for ideas, inspiration or simply admiration.

Book Japanese Interior Design

Download or read book Japanese Interior Design written by Michelle Galindo and published by Braun Publish,Csi. This book was released on 2011 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book excerpt: Super Potato Design is the first full-length book to present the work and conceptual ideas of the internationally renowned Japanese design firm Super Potato, founded by Takashi Sugimoto. Super Potato's powerful designs for the interiors of restaurants, shops and hotels, as well as Takashi Sugimoto's designs for tea ceremony spaces and utensils, are richly complex compositions of materials which create simple, strong spaces. Using traditional Japanese building materials such as bamboo, wood, and stone, but crating original yet timeless spaces, Super Potato's designs avoid specific stylistic characterizations and short-lived fashion. By finding contemporary expression for important concepts present in traditional Japan and combining materials in unexpected ways to create exciting spaces, Super Potato's work has had a significant impact on interior design in Japan and throughout Asia. Super Potato Design is generously illustrated with 320 full-color photographs by the respected Japanese photographer Yoshio Shiratori, who has recorded Super Potatos projects since the firm's conception in 1973. Architect and Japan scholar Mira Locher introduces the ideas and influences of Takashi Sugimoto, the founder and principle designer of Super Potato, and provides a thorough explanation of each project. Architectural drawings further describe the projects. A forward by Tadao Anso, interviews between Takashi Sugimoto and architect Kiyoshi Sey Takeyama, and also graphic designer Kenya Hara, explore the ideas relevant to Japanese designers today. A list of the Complete Works of Super Potato rounds off the book.

October 21 To November 4 Mr. Kozaki's Church.--Introduction to Bible Class.--Reception Days.--A Hibachi.--Two Old Ladies.--My Paper Dining-Room.--Funeral Fashions.--An Official Funeral.--Simplicity of Japanese Living.--Posthumous Titles.--The Emperor's Birthday. Sunday, October 21, 1888. This morning, in spite of a drenching rain, I attended service at the Japanese Congregational church near here, as steps had been taken to organize a class for me, and the pastor' wanted me to come and meet my pupils. Although I could not understand a word of the service, I enjoyed it more than many meetings where English is spoken, for I sat where I could watjh the andience, and their intentness made up somewhat for my lack of understanding. It was an intelligent-looking congregation, made up largely of men, most of them young, though here and there a gray head could be seen among the black ones. The people seemed to be drawn from all classes in society, although in this church there is a larger proportion of the official classes than in any other church in the city. It was most interesting to watch the andience during the sermon. All listened intently, and with more the look of students in a college lecture-room than of a congregation listening to a sermon. There was none of that air of polite boredom that we see so much of in American churches. Almost all the grown persons, both men and women, had Bibles, in which they verified carefully all inferences, and many had pencils and paper, with which they took notes. They were evidently in search of instruction rather than fine oratory or aesthetic gratification of any kind. The church was large and light and airy, with no attempt at ornament except the beantifully arranged flowers near the...
