Book Handbook for Asian Studies Specialists

Download or read book Handbook for Asian Studies Specialists written by Noriko Asato and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2013-10-08 with total page 491 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An indispensable tool for librarians who do reference or collection management, this work is a pioneering offering of expertly selected print and electronic reference tools for East Asian Studies (Chinese, Japanese, and Korean). Handbook for Asian Studies Specialists: A Guide to Research Materials and Collection Building Tools is the first work to cover reference works for the main Asian area languages of China, Japan, and Korea. Several leading Asian Studies librarians have contributed their many decades of experience to create a resource that gathers major reference titles—both print and online—that would be useful to today's Asian Studies librarian. Organized by language group, it offers useful information on the many subscription-based and open-source electronic tools relevant to Asian Studies. This book will serve as an essential resource for reference collections at academic libraries. Previously published bibliographies on materials deal with China or Japan or Korea, but none have coalesced information on all three countries into one work, or are written in English. And unlike the other resources available, this work provides the insight needed for librarians to make informed collection management decisions and reference selections.

Book Japanese Chronological Tables

Download or read book Japanese Chronological Tables written by William Bramsen and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-09-17 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Japanese Chronological Tables: Showing the Date, According to the Julian or Gregorian Calendar, of the First Day of Each Japanese Month, From Tai-Kwa 1st Year to Mei-Ji 6th Year (645 A. D. To 1873 A. D.); With an Introductory Essay on Japanese Chronology and Calendars In preference to giving the Japanese date corresponding to the first day of each month of the European Calendar, as is done in the aforesaid work, I have followed the opposite course and given the equivalent, according to the Julian or Gregorian calendars, of the first day of every Japanese month, as the tables are far more likely to be used for transposing Japanese dates into Western, than Western dates into Japanese. The present tables are carried back to ad. 645, because that year, being the one in which the Nan system was introduced, seems to form a suitable starting point. In reality, however, the calendars existing 'for the time up to the beginning of the 8th century, are not authentic. Book The Chronicle of Lord Nobunaga

Download or read book The Chronicle of Lord Nobunaga written by Gyūichi Ōta and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2011-06-22 with total page 531 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shinch?-K? ki<, the work translated here into English under the title “The Chronicle of Lord Nobunaga,” is the most important source on the career of one of the best known figures in all of Japanese history—Oda Nobunaga (1534-1582), the first of the “Three Heroes” who unified Japan after a century of fragmentation and internecine bloodshed. The other two of the triad, Toyotomi Hideyoshi (1537-1598) and Tokugawa Ieyasu (1543-1616), also make frequent appearances in this chronicle, playing prominent although clearly subordinate roles. So the chronicle also is an important source on their early careers, as it is on a constellation of other actors in Japan’s sixteenth-century drama. The chronicle’s author, ?ta Gy?ichi, was Nobunaga’s former retainer and an eyewitness of some of the events he describes. He completed his work about the year 1610.
