Download or read book Rheology Fundamentals written by Aleksandr I︠A︡kovlevich Malkin and published by ChemTec Publishing. This book was released on 1994 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most technological improvements are realized through application of rheology used to modify properties of materials. At the same time, rheology is a complex discipline not fully understood by most researchers and engineers. It is not because rheology is too difficult to understand but mostly because the discipline uses its own language full of terms and models, understood by rheologists but not commonly used by others. ChemTec Publishing introduces a new series entitled Fundamental Topics in Rheology, designed to facilitate conversion of rheology from a field familiar to a narrow group of specialists to a popularly applied science.

Book excerpt: At the VIIth International Congress on Rheology, which was held in Goteborg in 1976, Proceedings were for the first time printed in advance and distributed to all participants at the time of the Congress. Although of course we Italians would be foolish to even try to emulate our Swedish friends as far as efficiency of organization is concerned, we decided at the very beginning that, as far as the Proceedings were concerned, the VIIIth International Congress on Rheology in Naples would follow the standards of time liness set by the Swedish Society of Rheology. This book is the result we have obtained. We wish to acknowledge the cooperation of Plenum Press in producing it within the very tight time schedule available. Every four years, the International Congress on Rheology represents the focal point where all rheologists meet, and the state of the art is brought up to date for everybody interested; the Proceedings represent the written record of these milestones of scientific progress in rheology. We have tried to make use of the traditions of having invited lectures, and of leaving to the organizing committee the freedom to choose the lecturers as they see fit, in order to collect a group of invited lectures which gives as broad as possible a landscape of the state of the art in every relevant area of rheology. The seventeen invited lectures are collected in the first volume of the proceedings.

Book Rheology for Chemists

    Book Details:
  • Author : James William Goodwin
  • Publisher : Royal Society of Chemistry
  • Release : 2008
  • ISBN : 0854048391
  • Pages : 277 pages

Download or read book Rheology for Chemists written by James William Goodwin and published by Royal Society of Chemistry. This book was released on 2008 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rheology is primarily concerned with materials: scientific, engineering and everyday products whose mechanical behaviour cannot be described using classical theories. From biological to geological systems, the key to understanding the viscous and elastic behaviour firmly rests in the relationship between the interactions between atoms and molecules and how this controls the structure, and ultimately the physical and mechanical properties. Rheology for Chemists An Introduction takes the reader through the range of rheological ideas without the use of the complex mathematics. The book gives particular emphasis on the temporal behaviour and microstructural aspects of materials, and is detailed in scope of reference. An excellent introduction to the newer scientific areas of soft matter and complex fluid research, the second edition also refers to system dimension and the maturing of the instrumentation market. This book is a valuable resource for practitioners working in the field, and offers a comprehensive introduction for graduate and post graduates. Extracts from reviews of 1st Edition: "... well-suited for self-study by research workers and technologists, who, confronted with technical problems in this area, would like a straightforward introduction to the subject of rheology." Chemical Educator, "... full of valuable insights and up-to-date information." Chemistry World

Book Theory and Applications of Colloidal Suspension Rheology

Download or read book Theory and Applications of Colloidal Suspension Rheology written by Norman J. Wagner and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2021-04-15 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An essential text on practical application, theory and simulation, written by an international coalition of experts in the field and edited by the authors of Colloidal Suspension Rheology. This up-to-date work builds upon the prior work as a valuable guide to formulation and processing, as well as fundamental rheology of colloidal suspensions. Thematically, theory and simulation are connected to industrial application by consideration of colloidal interactions, particle properties, and suspension microstructure. Important classes of model suspensions including gels, glasses and soft particles are covered so as to develop a deeper understanding of industrial systems ranging from carbon black slurries, paints and coatings, asphalt, cement, and mine tailings, to natural suspensions such as biocolloids, protein solutions, and blood. Systematically presenting the established facts in this multidisciplinary field, this book is the perfect aid for academic researchers, graduate students, and industrial practitioners alike.

Book Rheology

    Book Details:
  • Author : Geoffrey Mitchell
  • Publisher : Nova Science Publishers
  • Release : 2014
  • ISBN : 9781626189638
  • Pages : 0 pages

Download or read book Rheology written by Geoffrey Mitchell and published by Nova Science Publishers. This book was released on 2014 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rheology is the study of the flow of matter, primarily in the liquid state, but also as 'soft solids' or solids under flow conditions in which they respond with plastic flow rather than deforming elastically in response to the applied force. An understanding of the flow of matter underpins a diversity of technologies and industrial processing including polymer and food processing. It applies to substances which have a complex microstructure, such as concentrated solutions, suspensions, polymers and inorganic glass formers as well as biological materials which belong to the class of soft matter. Rheological measurements are seemingly straightforward to make, but require models to interpret the mechanical measurements in terms of the microscopic behaviour of the material. This boo draws these diverse strands of current rheological research in to a single volume which embraces theory, measurement and applications in topics as diverse as theory and electrospinning, coal ash slag and food processing, hydrogels and liquid crystal polymers, reaction injection moulding and microreheology. There is a strong focus on the emerging topics in rheology and its application to complex soft matter especially in the field of food science and technology. The sixteen chapters in the volume present unpublished research work across these topics from leading authorities in the relevant field. The volume has a strong international representation with the selected authors drawn from some ten countries in Europe, South America and the rest of the world. Each chapter contains a comprehensive bibliography of related work. The book provides a fascinating snap shot across the current developments in rheology.

Book Rheology of Weakly Attractive Soft Particles

Download or read book Rheology of Weakly Attractive Soft Particles written by Ehsan Irani and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We study the rheology of a soft particulate system with attractive interactions. Lees-Edwards boundary conditions are used to simulate a shear-controlled flow. Unlike repulsive systems, it is found that in systems with a damping force directed normally to the contact point, attractive interactions result in a finite yield stress, and an iso-static structure emerges below the jamming point. The rheology can be explained by a scaling argument that exploits the vicinity to the isostatic state. In addition, flow curves exhibit non-monotonic behavior, resulting in persistent shear-banding in lar...
