  • Author : Elsa Findlay
  • Publisher : Alfred Music
  • Release : 1995-11-16
  • ISBN : 9781457400384
  • Pages : 100 pages

Download or read book Rhythm and Movement written by Elsa Findlay and published by Alfred Music. This book was released on 1995-11-16 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Of the three elements of music -- rhythm, melody, and harmony -- rhythm has received the least attention from the theorists, yet it is indisputably the basic element without which there is no musical art." Such is the first sentence of this book on use of the body to express musical rhythm. Elsa Findlay is eminently qualified to write on this subject, having been a student of Emile-Jaques Dalcroze, the master himself, also from her own experience in a variety of teaching situations. These included schools of dance and theater, colleges and universities, and The Cleveland Institute of Music, one of the first to offer a BMus degree with a major in eurhythmics. Each chapter concentrates on a different phase of rhythm: tempo, dynamics, duration, metrical patterns, speech and rhythm patterns, phrase and form, pitch and melody, and creative expression. Activities for each phase are outlined in detail and illustrated by charming drawings and photos. Appendices furnish further suggestions for exercises, games, action songs, and suitable music.

Book Pursuing A Jaques Dalcroze Education Sof ge Harmony and the Upper Pitch Sets Volume III

Download or read book Pursuing A Jaques Dalcroze Education Sof ge Harmony and the Upper Pitch Sets Volume III written by John Robert Stevenson and published by Institute for Jaques-Dalcroze Education, LLC. This book was released on 2021-11-20 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Textbook on the solfège method of Emile Jaques-Dalcroze. Volume III, Unit One. The first unit provides an in-depth discussion on the subject of "complex meter." Beginning with its inception in Southeastern Europe, we trace the development of the additive meter structure and the expansion of the aksak patterns related to folk dance and music-making. Included are over 200 examples and exercises in this unit, composed by the author. All the illustrations and examples are audible with the touch of a button. The unit also covers the pentachord pitch set. Pentachords consist of two trichords [Root - 3rd, 3rd - 5th], revealing the major, minor, augmented, and diminished triads in melody and harmony. We also find how Jaques-Dalcroze used inverted pentachords to solidify tonality and modulate keys near and far. We also discovered figured bass and how to construct vibrant bass lines that move through time and space. The text is thoroughly researched and has a complete annotated bibliography, an interactive glossary, dictionary, and table of contents. Also included is music for clef reading, rhythms in unison, two and three-part, melodies, duets, trios, plus two, three, and four-part canons for practice, rhythm realization, harmonization, concept discovery, and study, all composed by the author and explicitly designed for layer-by-layer learning.

Book The Eurhythmics of Jaques Dalcroze

Download or read book The Eurhythmics of Jaques Dalcroze written by Emile Jaques-Dalcroze and published by Wildside Press LLC. This book was released on 2007-05 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Rhythmische Gymnastik" is the name by which the Dalcroze method is known in Germany, but whether or not the German words are adequate, their literal translation into English certainly gives too narrow an idea of the scope of the system to any one unacquainted with it. Rhythmical "gymnastics," in the natural meaning of the word, is a part of the Dalcroze training, and a not unimportant part, but it is only one application of a much wider principle; and accordingly, where the term occurs in the following pages, it must be understood simply as denoting a particular mode of physical drill. But for the principle itself and the total method embodying it, another name is needed, and the term "Eurhythmics" has been here coined for the purpose. The originality of the Dalcroze method, the fact that it is a discovery, gives it a right to a name of its own: it is because it is in a sense also the rediscovery of an old secret that a name has been chosen of such plain reference and derivation. Plato, in the words quoted above, has said that the whole of a man's life stands in need of a right rhythm: and it is natural to see some kinship between this Platonic attitude and the claim of Dalcroze that his discovery is not a mere refinement of dancing, nor an improved method of music-teaching, but a principle that must have effect upon every part of life.

Book The Eurhythmics of Jaques Dalcroze Esprios Classics

Download or read book The Eurhythmics of Jaques Dalcroze Esprios Classics written by Emile Jaques-Dalcroze and published by . This book was released on 2021-01-13 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Émile Jaques-Dalcroze was a Swiss composer, musician, and music educator who developed Dalcroze eurhythmics, an approach to learning and experiencing music through movement. Dalcroze eurhythmics influenced Carl Orff's pedagogy, used in music education throughout the United States. Dalcroze's method teaches musical concepts, often through movement. The variety of movement analogues used for musical concepts develop an integrated and natural musical expression in the student. Turning the body into a well-tuned musical instrument-Dalcroze felt-was the best path for generating a solid, vibrant musical foundation. The Dalcroze method consists of three equally important elements: eurhythmics, solfège, and improvisation.
