Download or read book J Polarization in P P Collisions at u221A s written by and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study report on a polarization measurement of inclusive J/? mesons in the di-electron decay channel at mid-rapidity at 2psubT/sub6 GeV/c in p+p collisions at √s = 200 GeV. Data were taken with the STAR detector at RHIC. The J/? polarization measurement should help to distinguish between different models of the J/? production mechanism since they predict different psubT/sub dependences of the J/? polarization. In this analysis, J/? polarization is studied in the helicity frame. The polarization parameter ?sub?/sub measured at RHIC becomes smaller towards high psubT/sub, indicating more longitudinal J/? polarization as p

Book J psi and Psi 2S Production in Pp Collisions at Sqrt s

Download or read book J psi and Psi 2S Production in Pp Collisions at Sqrt s written by and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 39 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A measurement of the J/psi and psi(2S) production cross sections in pp collisions at sqrt(s)=7 TeV with the CMS experiment at the LHC is presented. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 37 inverse picobarns. Using a fit to the invariant mass and decay length distributions, production cross sections have been measured separately for prompt and non-prompt charmonium states, as a function of the meson transverse momentum in several rapidity ranges. In addition, cross sections restricted to the acceptance of the CMS detector are given, which are not affected by the polarization of the charmonium states. The ratio of the differential production cross sections of the two states, where systematic uncertainties largely cancel, is also determined. The branching fraction of the inclusive B to psi(2S) X decay is extracted from the ratio of the non-prompt cross sections to be: BR(B to psi(2S) X) = (3.08 +/- 0.12(stat.+syst.) +/- 0.13(theor.) +/- 0.42(BR[PDG])) 10-̂3.

Book Precision Measurement of the Longitudinal Double spin Asymmetry for Inclusive Jet Production in Polarized Proton Collisions at u221A s

Download or read book Precision Measurement of the Longitudinal Double spin Asymmetry for Inclusive Jet Production in Polarized Proton Collisions at u221A s written by and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We report a new measurement of the midrapidity inclusive jet longitudinal double-spin asymmetry, ALL, in polarized pp collisions at center-of-mass energy √s = 200 GeV. The STAR data place stringent constraints on polarized parton distribution functions extracted at next-to-leading order from global analyses of inclusive deep-inelastic scattering (DIS), semi-inclusive DIS, and RHIC pp data. Lastly, the measured asymmetries provide evidence at the 3? level for positive gluon polarization in the Bjorken-x region x > 0.05 .

Book A Measurement of the Polarization of J Psi Mesons Produced in High energy Proton antiproton Collisions

Download or read book A Measurement of the Polarization of J Psi Mesons Produced in High energy Proton antiproton Collisions written by Robert J. Cropp and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This dissertation presents an analysis of the polarization of ' J'/ y mesons produced in 'pp¢' collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 1.8 TeV. The collisions were produced by the Fermilab Tevatron collider, the world's highest energy particle accelerator. The data were recorded by the Collider Detector at Fermilab during Run 1 of the Tevatron in 1992-1995. The 'J'/ y meson consists of a charm quark and its antiquark, and is the best-known type of quarkonium, the bound state of a heavy quark-antiquark pair. The measurement of the production polarization of 'J'/ y mesons and other quarkonia provides a test of quarkonium production models. The study of quarkonium production is important for understanding the strong nuclear force between quarks. The strong force is one of the four known fundamental forces, being responsible for binding quarks into hadrons and holding atomic nuclei together. The polarization of centrally produced 'J'/ y mesons has been measured over the transverse momentum range 4-20 GeV/'c', using an analysis of the angular distribution of their decays to [mu]+[mu]-. Decay length measurements made by CDF's silicon vertex detector allowed the promptly produced ' J'/ y mesons to be separated from those produced in ' B'-hadron decays. The prompt and 'B'-decay polarization parameters, Ã'P' and Ã' B', have both been measured. The measured value of Ã' P' is positive at intermediate 'PT', but is consistent with zero above 12 GeV/'c', in apparent disagreement with predictions of the NRQCD factorization formalism.

Book Prompt and Non prompt J psi Production in Pp Collisions at Sqrt s

Download or read book Prompt and Non prompt J psi Production in Pp Collisions at Sqrt s written by and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The production of J/psi mesons is studied in pp collisions at sqrt(s)=7 TeV with the CMS experiment at the LHC. The measurement is based on a dimuon sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 314 inverse nanobarns. The J/psi differential cross section is determined, as a function of the J/psi transverse momentum, in three rapidity ranges. A fit to the decay length distribution is used to separate the prompt from the non-prompt (b hadron to J/psi) component. Integrated over J/psi transverse momentum from 6.5 to 30 GeV/c and over rapidity in the range.

Book Measurement of the psi 2S Polarization in Pp Collisions at the Square Root Of s

Download or read book Measurement of the psi 2S Polarization in Pp Collisions at the Square Root Of s written by Ching-Yuk Paul Ngan and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 173 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present a measurement of the polarization of [psi](2S) mesons produced in pp̄ collisions at [the square root of]s = 1.8 TeV with the CDF detector at Fermilab. This measurement is a sensitive test of the calculations based on the Non-relativistic QCD (NRQCD) factorization mechanism, which are able to account for the unexpectedly large cross section for charmonium production in pp̄ collisions (roughly a factor 50 above the Color Singlet Model). These calculations also predict that directly produced charmonia should approach 100% transverse polarization for high transverse momentum of the onium state. We consider [psi](2S) mesons, reconstructed using the decay mode [psi](2S) [right arror] [mu]+ [mu]- in a 110 pb-1 data sample of pp̄ collisions. The polarization of prompt [psi](2S) is extracted to be -0.54 +/- 0.48(stat.) +/- 0.04(syst.) for 9

Book Model Independent Search for New Phenomena in Pp Collisions At u221A s

Download or read book Model Independent Search for New Phenomena in Pp Collisions At u221A s written by and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We describe a model independent search for physics beyond the standard model in lepton final states. We examine 117 final states using 1.1 fb-1 of pp collisions data at √s = 1.96 TeV collected with the D0 detector. We conclude that all observed discrepancies between data and model can be attributed to uncertainties in the standard model background modeling, and hence we do not see any evidence for physics beyond the standard model.

Book Measurement of the W Charge Asymmetry in the pp Collisions at u221A s

Download or read book Measurement of the W Charge Asymmetry in the pp Collisions at u221A s written by and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 19 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This letter reports a measurement of the muon charge asymmetry from W Boson produced in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV with the ATLAS experiment at the LHC. The asymmetry is measured in the W → ?? decay mode as a function of the muon pseudorapidity using a data sample corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 31 pb-1. The results are compared to predictions based on next-to-leading order calculations with various parton distribution functions. The measurement provides information on the u and d quark momentum fractions in the proton.

Book Measurement of Prompt J psi Pair Production in Pp Collisions at sqrt s

Download or read book Measurement of Prompt J psi Pair Production in Pp Collisions at sqrt s written by and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 35 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Production of prompt J/[psi] meson pairs in proton-proton collisions at √s = 7 TeV is measured with the CMS experiment at the LHC in a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of about 4.7 fb-1. The two J/[psi] mesons are fully reconstructed via their decays into [mu] + [mu] - pairs. This observation provides for the first time access to the high-transverse-momentum region of J/[psi] pair production where model predictions are not yet established. The total and differential cross sections are measured in a phase space defined by the individual J/[psi] transverse momentum (p T J/[psi] ) and rapidity (
