A shadowy group known as 'The Consortium, ' with ties to the Vatican, and a history that dates back to the Lincoln Assassination, has vowed to either control Baron James.or kill him. The group has one point four trillion reasons to want James dead. That's the price tag attached to a slavery reparations lawsuit creeping through the courts. 'The Consortium' fears because Baron James is black he would shepherd the lawsuit through the judicial system and ruin their centuries old hold on power. Power that can directly be traced to the trafficking of human beings we know as slavery. Caught in the crossfire, Vanessa Sullivan, a beautiful young college coed battling to escape a trailer park past, and mixed race legacy that has defined her entire existence. A group of graphic sex photos surfaces leading to her mother's brutal death. A series of cryptic notes left behind by a person who identifies himself only as Father Chiniquy has the two following a DNA trail that leads them to the White House and a little known plot to assassinate President Lincoln. The key to stopping the assassination of Baron James rests with their ability to solve the mystery in time. The key to the mystery is in the code, 1.31/6: 05, but can they solve it in time? 'The Race' is Dan Brown's DaVinci Code, meets Tom Clancy CIA. It is a multi-national thrill ride with a jaw dropping ending that is sure to have all of Washington talking. This photographic history spans the classic era from 1946 to 1970, featuring vintage photography of the Champ and Sprint cars that were driven by men like A.J. Foyt, Parnelli Jones, Roger Ward and Bobby Unser for very little monetary reward. The technologies of the most successful and unusual cars are discussed as are specific races, circuits and some of the more colorful personalities of the period. Midget and track roadsters are also featured, along with period color photography.

Book Mad for Speed

Download or read book Mad for Speed written by Elsa A. Nystrom and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2013-06-13 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers Joan Newton Cuneo's life, and her roles (from 1905 to 1915) as the premier female racer in the United States and spokeswoman for women drivers and good roads. Beginning with her family history and marriage to Andrew Cuneo, it traces her life in New York society, the birth of her children, and Joan's growing interest in automobile touring and racing and partnership with Louis Disbrow, her racing mechanic. The book covers Joan's experiences in three Glidden Tours, including her notes on the 1907 tour, her first races, and her rivals. It also looks at the growth and change of automobile culture and the battles for control of racing among the American Automobile Association, the Automobile Club of America, and the American Automobile Manufacturers Association--which ended in banishing women racers shortly after Joan's greatest racing victories at New Orleans (in 1909). The book then follows Joan's attempts to continue racing, the end of her marriage, her move to the Upper Peninsula, and her remarriage and death. The book also includes a chapter on her female rivals in racing and touring.

Book Dirt Track Auto Racing 1919 1941

Download or read book Dirt Track Auto Racing 1919 1941 written by Don Radbruch and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2015-03-07 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Prior to World War I, auto racing featured expensive machines and teams financed by auto factories. The teams toured the country, and most of the races were held in large cities, so the vast majority of Americans never saw a race. All this changed after World War I, though, and in the 1920s and 1930s there were approximately 1,000 dirt tracks in the United States and Canada. The dirt tracks offered small-time racing--little prize money and minimal publicity--but people loved it. This pictorial history documents dirt track racing, with what are today called sprint cars, around the United States from 1919 to 1941. Information on dirt track racing in Canada during this time is also provided. Regionally divided chapters detail the drivers, tracks, and specific races of each area of the country. Some of the drivers went on to win fame and fortune while others faded into obscurity. Tracks included well known facilities as well as out-of-the-way sites few people had ever heard of. The cars ranged from state of the art machines to the more common home built specials based on Model T or Model A Ford parts. Taken together, the drivers, tracks, and races of this era were instrumental in making auto racing the popular sport it is today.

Book Off the Edge

  • Author : Kelly Weill
  • Publisher : Algonquin Books
  • Release : 2022-02-22

Download or read book Off the Edge written by Kelly Weill and published by Algonquin Books. This book was released on 2022-02-22 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “A deep dive into the world of Flat Earth conspiracy theorists . . . that brilliantly reveals how people fall into illogical beliefs, reject reason, destroy relationships, and connect with a broad range of conspiracy theories in the social media age. Beautiful, probing, and often empathetic . . . An insightful, human look at what fuels conspiracy theories.” —Science Since 2015, there has been a spectacular boom in a centuries-old delusion: that the earth is flat. More and more people believe that we all live on a pancake-shaped planet, capped by a solid dome and ringed by an impossible wall of ice. How? Why? In Off the Edge, journalist Kelly Weill draws a direct line from today’s conspiratorial moment, brimming not just with Flat Earthers but also anti-vaxxers and QAnon followers, back to the early days of Flat Earth theory in the 1830s. We learn the natural impulses behind these beliefs: when faced with a complicated world out of our control, humans have always sought patterns to explain the inexplicable. This psychology doesn’t change. But with the dawn of the twenty-first century, something else has shifted. Powered by Facebook and YouTube algorithms, the Flat Earth movement is growing. At once a definitive history of the movement and an essential look at its unbelievable present, Off the Edge introduces us to a cast of larger-than-life characters. We meet historical figures like the nineteenth-century grifter who first popularized the theory, as well as the many modern-day Flat Earthers Weill herself gets to know, from moms on vacation to determined creationists to neo-Nazi rappers. We discover what, and who, converts people to Flat Earth belief, and what happens inside the rabbit hole. And we even meet a man determined to fly into space in a homemade rocket-powered balloon—whose tragic death is as senseless and absurd as the theory he sets out to prove. In this incisive and powerful story about belief, Kelly Weill explores how we arrived at this moment of polarized realities and explains what needs to happen so that we might all return to the same spinning globe.
