Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pat Patterson wants to travel. His wife, Martha, predicts bedlam with three kids cooped up in the back seat of the car, especially if they have to tow that unsightly, cigar-shaped trailer Pat put together from an airplane fuselage. Neighbors complaints about the Pattersons growing mechanical collection persuade the family to move to Potrero Canyonout of sight. Pat doesnt give up on his travel dreams and in 1950 buys a damaged Flxible bus. He fixes the engine and converts the interior into a prototype motorhome. In the summer of 1951 the Pattersons take off from Pacific Palisades, California and head east. Approaching Las Vegas, the engine overheats. With Martha at the wheel, the clutch housing explodes on the Hualapai Indian Reservation in Arizona. In the desert heat, Pat picks up a fur-clad, female hitchhiker who turns out to be a proselytizing evangelist, only to give her the slip when he rescues two vacationing schoolteachers whose hearse is stuck in the Kansas mud. Written by Pats wife and daughter, the memoir is full of colorful characters and adventures that confront this pioneer motorhoming family. How do they manage this 7,500-mile journey? What do they learn? Grab a seat on the bus that isnt a bus for a ride that will tickle your funny bone and touch your heart.

They can multiply by the hundreds in less than a week. They are one of the most loathsome, hellish species to ever grace God's green earth. Thought to be eradicated decades ago, thanks to global travel they're back. And with them comes a nightmare beyond imagining. Bed bugs. Book Between Probability and Certainty

Download or read book Between Probability and Certainty written by Martin Smith and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2017-11-17 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Martin Smith explores a question central to philosophy—namely, what does it take for a belief to be justified or rational? According to a widespread view, whether one has justification for believing a proposition is determined by how probable that proposition is, given one's evidence. In the present book this view is rejected and replaced with another: in order for one to have justification for believing a proposition, one's evidence must normically support it—roughly, one's evidence must make the falsity of that proposition abnormal in the sense of calling for special, independent explanation. This conception of justification bears upon a range of topics in epistemology and beyond, including the relation between justification and knowledge, the force of statistical evidence, the problem of scepticism, the lottery and preface paradoxes, the viability of multiple premise closure, the internalist/externalist debate, the psychology of human reasoning, and the relation between belief and degrees of belief. Ultimately, this way of looking at justification guides us to a new, unfamiliar picture of how we should respond to our evidence and manage our own fallibility. This picture is developed here.
