Book excerpt: “The story which has a perfect beginning might end happily, but some stories also have fatal and painful endings.” ‘I Know She Loves Me’ is such an amalgamation. It’s a story of unending and undying love, affection, inspiration, desirable dreams and also hatred. Arpit, a half-wit boy, met with an intelligent and a half-Muslim girl, Aayat, who is very obsessed with books and in chasing her dreams. Arpit falls in love with Aayat at their first meet. As time moved on, Aayat liked him too. Apparently, she loved him too, but she did not express her love to him, neither did Arpit confess his love to her. However, apart from their unconfessed love, life had made another plan for them. Something goes unexpectedly wrong, and Arpit has to fight with many unexpected things in life’s situations. Finally, on Valentine’s Day when Arpit gathered some courage and proposed to her, Aayat’s reply was unexpected to him. She refused to accept his love unreasonably. Arpit was shocked and disappointed with her answer. Gradually, Aayat stopped talking to him after that Valentine’s Day; she even created a distance from Arpit’s life. Well, what would Arpit do now? Will he forget her and move on with his life, or will he find the reason, why Aayat left him? Will he get his Aayat back in his life? It is not any simple love story. It is actually the story of eternal faith of true love.

" —KHALED HOSSEINI, New York Times bestselling author of The Kite Runner "I am deeply touched by these stories...Dear Zari should be read by anyone who cares and wants to know about Asia and Asian women." —XINRAN "All the stories in Dear Zari illustrate the suffering caused by deeply ingrained Afghan traditions. But [the women's} bravery and resilience shines through and Kargar touchingly reveals how hearing others' life stories finally gave her the courage to share her own. " —The Independent Moving, enlightening, and heartbreaking, Dear Zari gives voice to the secret lives of Afghan women. For the first time, Dear Zari allows these women to tell their stories in their own words: from the child bride given as payment to end of a family feud, to a life spent in a dark, dusty room weaving carpets, from a young girl being brought up as a boy, to a woman living as a widow shunned by society. Intimate, emotional, painful and uplifting, these stories uncover the suffering and strength of women in this deeply religious and intensely traditional society, and show how their courage is an inspiration to women everywhere.

Book Women Suicide Bombers

Download or read book Women Suicide Bombers written by V. G. Julie Rajan and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2011-08-26 with total page 373 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers an evaluation of female suicide bombers through postcolonial, Third World, feminist, and human-rights framework, drawing on case studies from conflicts in Palestine, Sri Lanka, and Chechnya, among others. Women Suicide Bombers explores why cultural, media and political reports from various geographies present different information about and portraits of the same women suicide bombers. The majority of Western media and sovereign states engaged in wars against groups deploying bombings tend to focus on women bombers' abnormal mental conditions; their physicality-for example, their painted fingernails or their beautiful eyes; their sexualities; and the various ways in which they have been victimized by their backward Third World cultures, especially by "Islam." In contrast, propaganda produced by rebel groups deploying women bombers, cultures supporting those campaigns, and governments of those nations at war with sovereign states and Western nations tend to project women bombers as mythical heroes, in ways that supersedes the martyrdom operations of male bombers. Many of the books published on this phenomenon have revealed interesting ways to read women bombers' subjectivities, but do not explore the phenomenon of women bombers both inside and outside of their militant activities, or against the patriarchal, Orientalist, and Western feminist cultural and theoretical frameworks that label female bombers primarily as victims of backward cultures. In contrast, this book offers a corrective lens to the existing discourse, and encourages a more balanced evaluation of women bombers in contemporary conflict. This book will be of interest to students of terrorism, gender studies and security studies in general.

  • Author : Narendra Mohan
  • Publisher : Prabhat Prakashan

Download or read book Hindutva written by Narendra Mohan and published by Prabhat Prakashan. This book was released on 2022-04-25 with total page 393 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hindutva is such a geo-cultural concept that has respect, place and feeling of coexistence for everybody. This synchronicity oriented cultural consciousness has made it quite liberal, tolerant and flexible. The situation deteriorated when cultures of external invaders taking advantage of the liberality of this overtolerant culture and started cutting very roots of the same. Too much permissiveness of Hindutva was treated as their cowardice and every possible effort was made to destroy all its basic elements. Even today, various kinds of conspiracies are being hatched with similar aim. Forbearance has turned the supporters and followers of ‘Hindutva’ i.e. ‘Indianness’ indifferent, impotent and fatalistic. The common-good-oriented philosophy of self- righteousness did not imply that on the level of this world and behaviour, we forget our duty towards ourselves and not be alert to self-defence. The policy of abandonment in the face of invaders has nothing to do with the philosophy and principle of coexistence and tolerance. Every time Hindutva failed to fight the invading enemies, they had to not only suffer humiliation but also live under their subjugation. Hindutva is so devoted to pursuit of truth that it does not compromise on any account. For Hindutva, existence of this world is not the real truth, rather it is an illusion; in other words, whatever is there in reality is a form of an eternal and true non-dual Brahman. —From this book

Book excerpt: Taqwacores are a legendary group of California Islamic punk bands with their own superstars and customs: Sunni straight-edgers, riot grrls in burqas, and stoned, mohawked Sufis acknowledge the old rules, but live a riotous American tradition of Islam. Buffalo, NY is a collegiate microcosm of the Khalifornia scene where debate rages about whether electric guitars are halal and what the Quranic sources are for an Iggy Pop song. A trucker incarnation of Rumi who leaves love poems at rest stops is among the other Muslim iconoclasts who inhabit this surprising milieu, an intimate, new American Islamic experience.
