Book Destigmatisation of People Living with HIV AIDS in China

Download or read book Destigmatisation of People Living with HIV AIDS in China written by Xiaoping Wang and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-01-27 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After reviewing related theories on stigmatisation of people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA), this book applies social exclusion theory, actor theory and stigma theory to the study of social mechanisms of stigmatisation of PLWHA in China to show the influence and mechanism of stigmatisation on them, and tries to construct the policy framework to tackle stigmatisation from the perspective of welfare pluralism. Qualitative analysis was used and data was obtained during the field interview. Thirty PLWHA and seventeen healthy people (non-infected people and staff of ASO Service Organizations) were selected by using random sampling and snowball sampling for semi-structured depth interviews. The research examines the treatments and living conditions of those PLWHA, aiming to explore the influence of HIV on them in education, employment, medical care, economy, welfare and social relations. The book is intended for graduate students, researchers interested in this field and relevant policymakers.

Book excerpt: This book explores the experiences and emotional expression of 30 people Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) using qualitative research methods such as “illness narratives,” and analyzes the dilemmas of “sicknesses of the society” including “Acquired Needs Deficiency” Syndrome, “Acquired Expectation Insufficiency” Syndrome, and “Acquired Punishment” Syndrome at the micro, meso and macro levels, so as to investigate higher-intensity negative emotions. In turn, the book draws on the perspectives of conflict and game, structure and function, and system and interaction, in order to propose a dynamic mechanism of emotion and expression, and argues that these negative emotions can be transformed, strengthened and presented through defense mechanisms such as suppression and attribution, which will influence social institutions at the micro, meso and macro levels and even possibly bring about positive changes in the social structure.

Book The Stigma of People Living with HIV AIDS A Case Study South Sudan

Download or read book The Stigma of People Living with HIV AIDS A Case Study South Sudan written by Ding Gatluak Lual and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2013 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The results are four-fold: First, the community of Malakal lack adequate knowledge of HIV/AIDS and such low knowledge of the disease has resulted in misconceptions towards persons living with it. Secondly, the PLWHA have developed negative attitudes in their relationships with the community, by denying the reality of living with the disease. Thirdly, the community perceives the PLWHA as different from themselves, people from whom they should distance themselves. Fourthly, there is great fear of HIV/AIDS which hinders the common person from discussing issues related to HIV/AIDS.The findings of this study have shown that to succeed in combating HIV/AIDS one has to tackle the challenges posed by the stigma associated with the epidemic; otherwise the efforts to provide care, treatment and prevention will not have an impact and ultimately impede efforts to defeat HIV/AIDS in the world.

Book Geographical Analysis of Disease Incidence Mortality and Deprivation

Download or read book Geographical Analysis of Disease Incidence Mortality and Deprivation written by Annitra Jongsthapongpanth and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Thailand, the young population is living under the threat of getting HIV infected one way or the other. The main goal of this study is to understand the geographic patterns of HIV/AIDS in Chiang Rai, a northern province with the second highest rate of HIV/AIDS in Thailand. A related goal is to examine the impact of the disease on the lives of Thai youth and young adults living with HIV/AIDS. The lack of geographic study in Thailand has not only hindered theory development about the spread of the epidemic, but has also led to uncertainties in the design of intervention policies and the implementation of healthcare in Thailand. In this dissertation, spatial analysis is used to understand the patterns of HIV/AIDS mortality and HIV/AIDS cumulative incidence rates among youth. In addition, the experience of youth living with HIV/AIDS is analyzed to understand their feelings/concerns and health care perceptions, and to identify areas that are in need of further intervention by healthcare groups. This dissertation provides an understanding of various aspects of the HIV/AIDS epidemic and conditions of people living with HIV/AIDS in Chiang Rai. Given the cluster concentration and cumulative incidence rate in many areas of the province, the municipal region remains a high risk area that needs further investigation. The experience of youth with HIV/AIDS reveals uninformed reckless behavior and social discrimination. The understanding from this dissertation is critical for program planning and resource mobilization given the limited budget of Thailand to identify areas of high risk and to provide improved health care services to PLWHA.

Book Self restoration of People Living with HIV AIDS in China

Download or read book Self restoration of People Living with HIV AIDS in China written by Rongting Hou and published by Springer. This book was released on 2020-12-26 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book adopts an approach based on relational psychoanalysis, developed in the USA in and since the 1990s and guided by the self-psychology championed by Kohut and the Post-Kohutians. How people infected with HIV/AIDS live their lives is a growing concern in China. The book, based on relational psychoanalysis, explores their self-restoration, and more specifically, how adopting an attitude of “dying to live” helps them face tremendous challenges in life. By interviewing selected individuals at a given organization, the author focuses on their life experiences and on corresponding interventional mechanisms. The book’s three most important features are as follows: 1) its application of self-psychology by Heinz Kohut into the context of psychological intervention; 2) a wealth of qualitative data gathered through in-depth interviews; and 3) the author’s self-reflection and analysis. The book offers a valuable guide for graduate students, researchers, and policymakers alike. By interviewing selected individuals at a given organization, the book focuses on the life histories of selected individuals after being diagnosed with AIDS (screening HIV positive) and on corresponding interventional mechanisms. Further, itemploys the self and self-object as key explanatory terms for the necessary psychotherapeutic interventions, and in order to create guidelines that sufficiently reflect the illness and corresponding interventions. Given its scope and focus, the book offers a valuable guide for graduate students, researchers, and policymakers alike.
