Book Internationalization of Library and Information Science Education in the Asia Pacific Region

Download or read book Internationalization of Library and Information Science Education in the Asia Pacific Region written by Alenzuela, Reysa and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2020-03-27 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Comprehensive internationalization is a strategic process that seeks to align initiatives for globally-oriented and internationally-connected programs that is essential for the attainment of global competitiveness and qualification recognition. Internationalization of higher education has been in broad debate among professionals, and procedures and processes towards desired quality of library and information science (LIS) academic standards are still a continuing discussion among stakeholders. Internationalization of Library and Information Science Education in the Asia-Pacific Region is a critical scholarly resource that examines the internationalization of LIS education to promote, develop, and facilitate engagement and mobility of library professionals around the world with a focus on the Asia-Pacific region. This book can open doors for greater global engagement and cooperation among LIS schools and professional governing bodies in countries that can mutually benefit and propel development to be on par with European and North American counterparts. While highlighting various topics such as global engagement, curriculum design, and knowledge sharing, this book is ideal for academicians, library professionals, instructional designers, researchers, curriculum designers, librarians, educators, and students.

Book Asian American Librarians and Library Services

Download or read book Asian American Librarians and Library Services written by Janet Hyunju Clarke and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2017-12-08 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What are the library services and resources that Asian Pacific Americans need? What does it mean to be an Asian Pacific American librarian in the 21st century? In Asian American Librarians and Library Services: Activism, Collaborations, and Strategies, library professionals and scholars share reflections, best practices, and strategies, and convey the critical need for diversity in the LIS field, library programming, and resources to better reflect the rich and varied experiences and information needs of Asian Americans in the US and beyond. The contributors show that they care deeply about diversity, that they acknowledge that it is painfully lacking in so many aspects of libraries and librarianship, and that libraries and the LIS profession must systematically integrate diversity and inclusion into their strategic priorities and practices, indeed, in their very mission, such that the rich diversity of experiences and histories of Asian Americans in library and archival collections, services, and programming are not only validated and recognized, but also valued and celebrated as vital components of the shared American experience. The volume recognizes and honors the creative and intentional work librarians do for their constituent Asian American communities in promoting resources, services, and outreach.

Book Southeast Asian Anthropologies

Download or read book Southeast Asian Anthropologies written by Eric C. Thompson and published by National University of Singapore Press. This book was released on 2019 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Anthropology is a flourishing discipline in Southeast Asia. This book makes visible the development of national traditions and transnational practices of anthropology across the region. The authors are practising anthropologists with decades of experience in the intellectual traditions and institutions that have taken root in the region. Three overlapping issues are addressed in these pages. First, the historical development of traditions of research, scholarship, and social engagement across diverse anthropological communities of the region, which have adopted and adapted global anthropological trends to their local circumstances. Second, the opportunities and challenges faced by Southeast Asian anthropologists as they practise their craft in different political contexts. Third, the emergence of locally-grounded, intra-regional, transnational linkages and practices. The book contributes to a 21st-century, world anthropologies paradigm from a Southeast Asian perspective.

Book Urbanization in Southeast Asia

Download or read book Urbanization in Southeast Asia written by Yap Kioe Sheng and published by Institute of Southeast Asian Studies. This book was released on 2012 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Urbanization occurs in tandem with development. Countries in Southeast Asia need to build - individually and collectively - the capacity of their cities and towns to promote economic growth and development, to make urban development more sustainable, to mitigate and adapt to climate change, and to ensure that all groups in society share in the development. This book is a result of a series of regional discussions by experts and practitioners involved in the urban and planning of their countries. It highlights urbanization issues that have implications for regional - including ASEAN - cooperation, and provides practical recommendations for policymakers. It is a first step towards assisting governments in the region to take advantage of existing collaborative partnerships to address the urban transformation that Southeast Asia is experiencing today.

Book Building Area Studies Collections

Download or read book Building Area Studies Collections written by Dan C. Hazen and published by Otto Harrassowitz Verlag. This book was released on 2007 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These essays by noted Area Studies specialists at a number of US research libraries serve as a practical and theoretical guide to university and college administrators, library directors and heads of collection development, as well as selection practitioners who work to create foreign-language collections for research libraries. The volume constitutes a general introduction for new practitioners and even the most experienced Area Studies librarians will find useful practical advice for reviewing and refining their existing collecting practices. Coverage includes East Asia, Latin America, Southeast Asia, Africa, South Asia and the Romance language areas of Europe, as well as the German/Nordic/Netherlandic countries. Each essay presents the Area Studies topic in question from an historical perspective and provides background on its present status and anticipated future development. Special emphasis is placed on the techniques of both print and digital collecting and on the assessment methods by which collection strengths and future needs are determined. Guidelines for expenditures for both collections and collateral activities such as providing access and preservation are provided, and contributors also supply extensive documentation for the burgeoning array of online digital resources which have emerged in the past decade. The volume editors, Dan C. Hazen (Harvard) and James H. Spohrer (University of California, Berkeley), also provide a general introduction to the topic and a detailed summary of current cooperative activities in Area Studies collecting.

Book Oil and Economic Development Issues in Brunei

Download or read book Oil and Economic Development Issues in Brunei written by B. A. Hamzah and published by Institute of Southeast Asian. This book was released on 1980 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper seeks to explain the linkage between oil and development in Brunei. Oil is presently the biggest business in Brunei. As elsewhere, it is fraught with political overtones. The oil industry in Brunei is dominated by Brunei Shell. However, unlike the position of oil companies in other oil exporting countries, that of Brunei Shell is so dominant and privileged that it has created for itself a state within a sultanate. Indeed, it is fashionable to speak of 'Brunei Shell' and 'Brunei' as one entity. But as the nation prepares for independence, the anomalous state-company relationship is likely to wear thin. From the econometric perspective, there are hardly any forward or backward linkages arising from the activities of Brunei Shell. The real linkage, however, lies in the fact that Brunei finances all its projects from petro-dollars.
